Ive been bringing my pets to Dr. Miller for everything--regular check-ups, vaccinations, teeth-cleaning, and surgery. The staff have always been very polite to me and you can tell they are animal lovers. Dr. Miller listens well and takes time to thoroughly and knowledgeably explain his observations and the answers to my questions to my satisfaction, even when I know Im probably just being a bit of a hypochondriac on behalf of my pets. haha That being said, it would probably be fairly easy to exaggerate the severity/urgency of any of my pets problems and up-sell me on services, but I dont feel that they are pushy. Granted, their prices are not cheap and there tend to be some miscellaneous fees involved (i.e. a "Biohazard waste management" fee for vaccine syringes used, etc.), but when he makes test/treatment recommendations, I feel he simply recommends (and explains his reasoning behind/provides you information on) the most useful, appropriate tests or treatments. That is a vets primary job and why he went to medical school--to advocate for your animals best interests. But of course your pet isnt paying for it--you are. And so he is respectful of your budget by being willing to inform you of the prices ahead of time and providing you with alternatives. Personally, I feel at the VCA, my pets have a better health care provider than I do and I have good PPO insurance for myself. Both Dr. Miller and the staff are very good with follow-up calls and checks to see how your pet is doing the next day and a week after anesthesia and surgery. And Ive also been able to leave messages with the vet and hes called me back within the same day to give me detailed replies. Reading the other reviews, Im a little puzzled. I dont know what times or days the other reviewers have taken their pets or whether or not they had appointments, but Ive never had to wait more than a few minutes in the waiting room. Even after 5pm on a weekday it wasnt crowded. The only reason I dont give this vet 5 stars is because of the prices. But I know from experience with other vets that when youre cheap its your pet that pays the price. However, you can save money asking them when they have specials and they will match competitor prices on some things like heartworm/flea prevention meds.

I took my cat here and felt uneasy about the entire thing. The Dr came in, immediately stated "youve been here right, right I remember you".... note... I have never been to this place. He was so quick he didnt even let me correct him, he was concerned about getting in and out. He said my cat has cataracts, has thyroid, needs major teeth pulled. They were not upfront with pricing. I asked them point blank, I dont want to be told Ill pay $200 then find out later I need to pay $1000s... their response was "well sometimes that happens, I cant tell you a price." I understand you cant give an exact price, but that was a ridiculous statement and made me trust them even less. He was too quick. it was clear they care about quantity vs quality. In and Out was their method. And the place was disgusting. Left over animal hair in the exam room on the table where they wanted me to put my healthy, all indoor cat. I ended up taking my cat to this other vet after moving to Austin, and the quality was SO MUCH BETTER. The Dr actually sat and petted my cat, got to know her before poking around. Everyone did that actually, got to know my cat on a personal level. He triple checked, and said she does not have cataracts and does not need major teeth pulling. He was up front with the pricing to get thyroid tested. He said though that she was very healthy and doubts theres thyroid problems. He was patient with all of my questions. The Dr at VCA was very impatient when I asked questions. DO NOT GO TO VCA. I have friends who live in LJ who stopped going here because they also felt a sense of not caring and lack of professional services.

I am so impressed with the level of care that the Dr. and all the staff showed our dog. She was so sick and everything was ready for us to bring her in including a stretcher if needed. Ive never had a vet offer to get a stretcher before. Dr. Waydel was comfortable talking to me about her condition including really listening to what my fears and suspicions were. I feel like Ive taken her to the right place to be cared for! I wish I would have found this place years ago. I appreciate being informed and listened to and treated as if my input is valid! Our dog has willingly gotten into the car for return trips because nobody made her uncomfortable there and she was treated so well by all the staff. Not so for the last vet we were seeing. Keep up the great work all of you!

We have been taking our pets to VCA LJ for many years now and have been nothing but satisfied. Dr. Haydel and Dr. Kyle are both very personable and take the time to explain things not only to me but also make sure to include my kids in the information. All of the staff have been amazingly helpful. Dr. Haydel is the regular vet my pets see and he knows them well. He understands their own unique personality. Our cat is rather particular and he responds accordingly instead of treating her like every other cat. I really like that he takes that extra step. The times that Dr. Kyle has seen our pets she has been great, always checking the records to see what treatments Dr. Haydel has tried in the past before going forward. I have nothing negative to say about VCA LJ.

Had to bring our dog here to get medication for fleas, ticks, and heart worm prevention. We had lived in Washington and he had been on the medication for several years. The vet clinic made us get a heart worm test, even though he was still current from our previous vet. We even had the records indicating he did not have heart worms. We told them upfront when we scheduled the appointment, we wanted Trifexis. When we paid, they gave us a different medication that was over $10 more expensive per dose. They charged us $64 for a heart worm test we didnt need, and almost $30 for a medication we didnt ask for. The staff is courteous and nice, but these guys will rip you off. Find another vet, its not worth the price.

Today I brought in my 6 week old puppy, Lillie. Ive never felt more comfortable and "at home" at a veterinarian office. Everyone took a turn holding Lillie and kissing her and totally babying her, it made me feel like I had the best little pup ever. A woman named Julie took us back, shes awesome, she loved on Lillie just like she was her own pup! The vet, Dr. B, was totally awesome too! She was extremely knowledgeable, very kind, also loved all over Lillie too! These folks care about the animals that come in. You can tell they absolutely love their job. I will continue to go to them, I HIGHLY recommend!

Ive had nothing but positive experiences with this vet. Its curious- I just read some great reviews about another local vet Ive had horrible experiences with (including an incorrect diagnosis that resulted in our dogs death)- and then read some poor reviews for this vet, who has always been great. I suppose everyones experience is different. The staff is friendly and caring. They always make time if an emergency arises. Theyve correctly diagnosed several things that were incorrectly diagnosed elsewhere. My pets are family and I trust this vet with them.
