Terrible service. After reading all of the positive reviews, I thought I had found a new regular veterinary to take my one year old Manchester Terrier. Boy, was I wrong! My dog recently was hospitalized at Metropolitan Veterinary Specialists and Emergency Service for an auto-immune disease, ITP. Fortunately, the staff and Doctors at Metropolitan are highly qualified and took excellent care of her. They nursed her back to health and I couldnt be more grateful! However, she must continue to get her blood re-checked every couple of weeks and is still currently on two immunosuppressant medications. For this reason, I wanted to find a veterinary office that was closer to my house. On Wednesday, July 30, 2014, I took my dog for her first visit with Dr. Stone. The vet techs were super friendly and my dog loved them! But when Dr. Stone walked in she started barking a bit aggressively towards him, which is really strange. My dog loves all people! He didnt do much to calm her, but try to feed her a few treats to get her quiet. One of the vet techs came back into the room to play with her. After Dr. Stone gave me the results of her blood work, he told me he was going to put her on a maintenance dose of one of her medications. With her condition, ITP, the medications must be slowly weaned off or else she could relapse. Luckily, a Doctor from Metropolitan had written his after-care treatment plan and that, along with her records, had been faxed to Shepherdsville Animal Hospital. I am pretty sure Dr. Stone didnt even read through them. I mentioned the after-care instructions, which is when Dr. Stone decided to look through the papers to see what was stated. He then told me that per the request of a Doctor at Metro, she should stay on her current dosage of medications for another two weeks. He then looked at her Prednisone prescription bottle (I brought both with me) and said that was a much higher dose than he was going to put her on. He obviously did not do his "homework" on how serious my dogs condition was. He didnt ask me one question about her health or if the medications were causing any side affects. He listened to her heart, and that was it. I was given a written prescription for Cyclosporine because they did not have any in stock. However, they had the Prednisone or so I thought. When I checked the prescription bottle the label stated that it was Prednisolone. I questioned the receptionist about this. She said that Prednisolone was a cheaper, generic version of Prednisone. I did not feel that was correct, so I called Metropolitan to speak with a Doctor there. He said that Prednisolone is not the generic version of Prednisone and was curious why her medication was switched. He said that it is basically the same type of medication and shouldnt hurt my dog, but I should call and get her back on the Prednisone because we dont want to risk anything happening. I had also purchased heart worm medication from Shepherdsville Animal Hospital and was given the wrong one based on my dogs weight. On Thursday, July 31, 2014, I returned to Shepherdsville Animal Hospital to switch out the heart worm medicine and return the Prednisolone. I was then informed that actually, it was Prednisone in the prescription bottle the label was just incorrect. She even went as far as to bring out both medicines to show me the difference in the pills. I stated that I still wanted a refund and wanted to be given a written prescription for Prednisone. It is not okay to put the wrong label on a prescription bottle. It took a while, but I finally got my refund. I received no apology. I even saw Dr. Stone upon my second visit and he did not even acknowledge me. Im sure they werent happy because apparently, unbeknownst to me, someone from Metropolitan had called and questioned the medication that had been prescribed. I will never return to this vet and highly discourage anyone from going.

I took my pets here for about 2 years. Each time I thought the place smelled like animal feces and I always felt rushed, specially by the veterinarian who I felt like was trying to get clients in and out as fast as possible. Theres a reason why s many people come here; theyre cheap. Most of these people probably havent ever had their animal there for a major surgery...I did. I paid nearly $1,000 to have an abdominal surgery on my golden retriever. She had eaten something and couldnt pass it. They sent her home to me "leaking" sour smelling pus, and running a high fever. This went on for days...Id call and take her in and theyd give her injection of antibiotics in the back of her neck...meanwhile she was running a fever and had bloody pus discharging from her incision. Then, the injection site on the back of her neck became necrotic and the tissue started dying. I had enough and took her to another vet who performed another surgery, which cost another $2,000. What had happened was she had developed a pocket of pus in between her abdominal wall and her skin and it need to be reopened and cleaned out. They were just trying to patch her up and send her on her way at Shepherdsville Animal Hopsital. Also she now has a huge divet in her neck from where the tissue was ate away from all the antibiotic injections they gave her. I could have lost my dog. should have known better when I took my other golden in prior to this and Dr. Stone/Shepherdsville Animal Hopsital performed a neuter on him. He also ended up with an infection...because they are NOT CLEAN! Also, something else I noticed....when I picked up my golden from her second surgery at our NEW vet, I noticed her arms were shaved in one spot on each arm. When I asked them about this they told me it is where they put her IV in. Then I realized, they did not even put an IV on her at Shepherdsville Animal Hopsital when they performed this surgery, because there was no spot on her shaved for one! I would NEVER EVER recommend this place to anyone.

I took a two week old shih tzu puppy there in critical condition. She was dehydrated, cold, limp and had pale blue mouth. At first they said she was "little dehydrated and cold" so they warmed her and said they fed her. I dont see how because she was barely conscious. I told them her mouth was blue so she needs to be on oxygen. She said ok and left. Later they came back and said she was fine and ready to go home. They gave her fluids, b12 shot, steriod shot and oxygen. I paid and they brought her back to me. They said to make sure she eats, and stays warm. She didnt look well at all. The lady said her gums were pink again and i looked and the gums did look better but she was still very limp. As i spoke with the woman about my concerns her gums began to turn pale and blue again and she became less active. I noticed she was breathing very gaspy so i told the woman that i think she needs to be on oxygen. She,assured me the puppy was fine and i just need to take her home. I took her home and the puppy became very lifeless and pale. I tried to get her to eat but she wouldnt respond. I tried to keep her warm and it didnt work. She died 3 hours after being discharged. Money wasnt an issue. If they didnt want to or couldnt keep her over night with treatment they shouldve been honest instead of lying to me and saying she was fine when she clearly wasnt getting enough oxygen. I wouldve taken her somewhere else to save her. Thanks for nothing.
