I would like to offer some clarification and detail regarding the one star review post relating to Dr. Chartrand’s concern about the baby with the larger head. That baby was in our care at the time of the appointment, under a CPS safety placement. Because of drug use by the mother during the pregnancy the baby was kept in the NICU for two weeks under a morphine drip to manage the withdrawal symptoms before being discharged from the hospital to our care. At the direction of CPS the child was evaluated by Early Childhood Intervention Services and it was recommended by ECI that the child be examined by a neurologist, an ophthalmologist, and a developmental pediatrician because of evidence of delayed development. As caregivers we made appointments with those medical professionals, as well as with Dr. Chartrand for a regular check up, all of which was approved by the child’s parents. Dr. Chartrand was concerned, as ECI had been, that the baby’s head was larger than normal and recommended a high speed, non-invasive MRI be performed to determine if there was an immediate danger such as hydrocephalus. Both parents approved the procedure. The mother was not in attendance at this appointment and as far as I am aware has never actually met Dr. Chartrand. Fortunately there was no immediate danger found by the scan and the baby appears to be in good health, despite the in utero drug exposure. In this case, as in each case with our own four children, Dr. Chartrand demonstrated compassion, intelligence, competency and a pro-activeness that I not only appreciate as a father, I require it in the medical professionals that care for my family. He is a man and a doctor above reproach and I trust every bit of my family’s health to him. My family has been verbally and emotionally abused, slandered, insulted and harassed throughout this CPS placement process and we have remained silent publicly about the details and have turned the other cheek. However, I will not let this exceptional man be denigrated in any way so I felt the need to offer a more detailed perspective of this particular complaint. Thank you.

We have been patients of Dr. Chartrands for a year or so , and recently I was able to witness the benefits of the care Dr. Chartrand provided for the baby mentioned in the rating below by Mr. McCullough. Mr. McCullough and his wife (who are personal friends of ours) agreed to care for the baby so birth mom could try to get back on track, but caring for the baby brought on many challenges as she was not well. They could call or text Dr. Chartrand anytime about Baby, and he was always responsive and helpful. The McCulloughs expressed several times how much Dr. Chartrand helped them get through that difficult time as they worked together to care for and rehabilitate this child. The reason the child was healthy when she was released back to birth mom is because of the great amount of work that Mr. McCullough, his wife, and Dr. Chartrand did to help restore her to health. This doctor went above and beyond ANYTHING I have ever seen or heard of, and I feel blessed to be a patient in his practice. I trusted the doctor already, but watching all he did for the baby and my friends further instilled my trust and respect for Dr. Chartrand and his practice.

My whole family has been seeing Dr. Chartrand exclusively since the birth of our first child 5 years ago. I have nothing but great things to say. Holistic, balanced approach. Pro Vaccine but also pro parent informed choice and provides options. Reasonable cash prices. Gives you his personal cell and provides after hours care for a very reasonable fee. Located in an adorable Victorian home off the square, complete with a wraparound porch for the kids to play. NEVER had to wait more than 10 minutes to be seen. Love everything about this model of care, its the old fashioned way and the way it should be still be done!!

Dr. Chartrand (and his office staff at that) go above and beyond. I trust Dr. Chartrand and appreciate that he will explain the reasons behind what is going on with my health and doesnt discourage me doing additional research at home to become more educated. The feel of his office is comforting-he is located in downtown McKinney in an old renovated home just like country docs in the past. Also, you just have to love the vintage ambulance parked out front.

One word: Disaster! My daughter was taken there by a family member and was told her "head was too big" and she looked "odd". Nice thing to say about a child to her mother. He immediately wanted her to have a large, expensive procedure but couldnt give me any medical support other than he thought she was unattractive. After she was tested head to toe (literally) she is in perfect health and absolutely beautiful!!

Dr. Chartrand has been our Pediatrician for both of our children. He is caring and easy to talk to. We have utilized him mainley for our welless child check ups. Our son did fall and split his chin and Dr. Chartrand glued it back together and saved us a trip to the ER. We appreciate him greatly and have referred at least five other people to him and they have also been very happy with the experience.

He is smart and knowledgeable and at the same time down to earth with an abundance of common sense. I cant help feeling it was a lucky day for me when Dr Chartrand decided to practice in McKinney!
