NO KIDS ALLOWED!? I started going to see Dr. Coutinho as my primary care doctor five years ago for a few simple issues and he was fine. However, there are major issues I have with the office policies (not even related to insurance or money) that have completely prevented me from seeing him. I called earlier this year to make an appointment for a physical, but the office told me that I couldnt have one done until I had a "new patient visit" since I hadnt been in to see him in a couple of years (I have been healthy and didnt think it had been that long). More than half of the time, he only does drop-in care, which means you cant actually make an appointment, you have to gamble with your time. I had actually come in for drop in care once and they turned me away because I hadnt been seen for a regular visit recently! Once I sprained my ankle and their xray machine was broken so they wouldnt see me then either. But, after completing a new patient visit, the office would then allow me to schedule an annual physical. I waited TWO MONTHS for my new patient visit and when I arrived I took my two smallest children, as I had in the past. I am a stay-at-home mom and figured the visit was more of a formality and it wasnt necessary to get a babysitter since the visit would only be a few minutes. They informed me that their office policy was to not allow children back into the rooms, and that they would make NO exceptions. I was shocked- after all the name of the practice includes the words, "Family Doctors." and they actually supposedly see kids age 4+ there as patients. Also, I have never seen anywhere on their website or forms that states that kids arent allowed in under any circumstances when a parent is being seen as the patient. When I asked why, they said that people come for sick visits and it is for my childrens protection. However, if I had another adult watch them in the waiting room (which was also full of sick people, by the way), it would be fine. So, these guys just arent right for me.

I have followed these Doctors to four locations and have the greatest respect for all of them. Dr Phillips has managed to put together and maintain a very professional and skilled group of Medical Doctors. Now, between the new phone system and the reception staff, who seem to be not only gatekeepers but doctors as well, the feeling that I have is that Im just another slab of meat to be ignored, insulted and kept waiting while these girls decide whether or not I can see my Doctor. Fortunately, when Dr. Coutinos nurse (and the best Ive ever known) Karlinda sees me, she works it out. Ive known a ton of Doctors in business and as a patient, but Doctor Coutino is absolutely the BEST! Calm, attentive and has a genuine concern for his patients. I wouldnt leave him for anything. The reception situation will be corrected, no doubt. Hopefully, then things atSOFD will return to normal. It wont be perfect, but then neither are the patients...especially when they are sick and a bit short tempered.

This office has been great to me! My family and I have been patients at this practice for nearly ten years and have always had a pleasant experience. It so funny reading some of these absurd reviews. The people should go back and read their reviews and see how ignorant they sound. Every staff member at this office has been amazing and gone out of their way to accommodate me and a few times have even gotten me on days when they dont normally do certain procedures. Dr. Coutino is always very professional and has spent time educating and tending to the need of myself and family members. They are always very prompt in bringing me back for my appointments and I have never had to wait long for the physician. With this office I know Im getting the best service & highest quality of care. I would highly recommend Dr. Coutino and the Stone Oak Family Doctors team to anyone in the San Antonio area that needs a family physicians care.

Dr. Coutinho is sooo personable and caring for me as a patient. He doesnt just tell you medical information, but explains in detail so I understand, as well as gives me the realities of certain medical decisions I must make on my part. HOWEVER.... the two other patients of his that suggested I go there had to warn me about rhe rude staff. Sad but true, after visiting him numerous times, trust me, you will seem like a waste of breath to all the employees, high and low positions combined. They are nice, until you have any sort of isssue to which they try to put all the blame on you for your predicament. Sorry for this review but where I work, we have a 5 star staff and maybe I am spoiled with that! Dr. Coutinho is worth it though!

I have been a patient for years and overall have had good experiences. But I called in to get a pre-authorization for a required medication and was told that there would be a $25 charge for them to do it, although it has not in the past. On my last few visits they requested I sign a documentation saying I would pay for other services like $10 for Letter on letterhead, $25 if you need them to complete a FMLA form, $2 for a printed script etc, this is ridiculous and I refused to do it. I hate to change my doctor because of this, but I need a full service provider (group/facility), that will not charge for services that should be included.

Rude staff and doctors dont care. Its an insurance mill. They wouldnt see me because I was late for an appointment and Ive been a patient for years. Called in to let them know I was running behind. they gave me a time limit and I was 10 minutes late for the time limit. when I asked why Dr. Cotinho couldnt see me, the receptionist laughed. I have never been late for an appointment before. Being laughed at and refusing to see me because of ten minutes is ridiculous. Who in the hell do you think you are? Is your time more important than mine? Never felt like they cared, get you in and out and bill your insurance.

This is a great practice. They really take their time with you. Dont rush you and really get to know you as a person. Dr. John Nguyen has a great sense of humor. He even had a nurse call us back to answer our question even though he was on vacation. The front office people are nice . When I had a concern about billing, they resolved it the same day and called me back to say how they were handling it. You cant ask for better service. I also like how they have one doctor who handles urgent care. I have never had a problem getting in as a result. Love this place.

Love Dr. Wendy Nguyen -- her nurses are efficient and friendly. Dr. Nguyen is no-nonsense but not rushed. I liked how she discuses everything with you patiently. So far I havent had issues with long waits or getting in very far off from my appointment time. The only issue I have had here is some mess up with co-pay by the check out staff -- and they were quick to fix the error (and it hasnt happened again). The experience weve had at this practice so far has been an improvement over other offices, thank goodness!
