After a change in our insurance we went to this place for the first time. My daughter and my son did not have anything tough to get done so they at least got them right. My son had just a standard exam and my daughter needed glasses which was simple enough. However, my situation wasnt so good. I got all the exams I felt I needed and my main goal was to get standard reading glasses like I already had which worked well with reading books and using a computer. I stated this to the doctor and she looks at me and says I need progressive lenses. I again stated all I needed and wanted was standard reading glasses, but she was insistent that I needed progressive lenses. I didnt appreciate being talked to in the condescending manner in which she used, but I figured she should know what she was doing so I went along with it. Once I got the glasses I knew immediately that they were not going to work for me. I got a headache within the first few minutes of using them and was constantly having to move my head around to focus. I essentially bought $200+ glasses I couldnt use and was told there was no way I could return them. After repeatedly arguing with the manager on duty I was told the doctor would call me back. I at least got some of my money back which is why they dont get one star. All the same I am not happy with this place as I was talked into glasses I couldnt use and got stuck paying $100+ for something I didnt want and couldnt use. Needless to say I wont be going back.

I am a new patient when I first got there to fill paper work done receptionist ask me if I was diabetic just as I also wrote on my paper work the Dr.never asked me or even tell me what type of eye exam I was getting done or the cost of each exam getting done never asked if I was able to afford the HIGH prices she just took it upon herself to do the exams herself I’m really upset cause for one she never asked if I wanted to get those test done or even afford the exams or even explained the prices I just went to get a regular eye exam and get glasses, I cant afford the crazy prices I was told that my glasses with everything included cause my insurance covers mostly everything was $133.00 plus my $15.00 dollar co-pay once I got to the receptionist she said my due was $387.64 which I cant afford then I gave her my visa said to the receptionist all I have is $150.00 dollars she swiped the card twice first swipe tried to charge 237.64 which was declined cause I said the card only has $150.00 she still swiped the card with her own amount then swiped the card again for the $150.00 this information I received from the bank if I never authorized the first swipe that was wrong of the receptionist to do, I will come into the office because this makes no sense that the Dr. just took it upon herself to do some testing’s that I was not aware of or even explained of the cost before hand.

Do NOT schedule an appointment at this office! I made an appointment for my daughter a week in advance and gave my insurance information at the time of scheduling. I received a phone call ONE day before my appointment from the front office staff stating they cannot locate my insurance coverage. They assured me that the insurance coordinator would call me first thing the next morning. She DID NOT. I called an hour before my appointment, and then the insurance coordinator informed me after several minutes that the doctor is no longer in network with my insurance. What a scam! I work in the medical/dental front office field. Not only should the entire front office staff know which insurance companies they are in network with, the staff had plenty of time to figure out and notify me that they no longer accept my insurance. Either this doctor/staff does not care about a potential new patients time and money because they already have enough patients or they are trying to scam people into scheduling appointments just to be able to bill them. Either way this was a terrible experience, and I would recommend avoiding Texas State Optical - Stone Oak in San Antonio - Dr. Renee Dunlap - at all costs...WASTE OF TIME!

I have been using them for 2 years. The first year I had no problem except I was unclear on the price expectations. This year I wanted to replace one lens of my current glasses. After being satisfied they would do a good job they made me sign a form saying if thy break my glasses they will no replace them. I signed. I picked up my glasses after calling 2 separate times to see if they were ready. They never called me. I arrange pickup and leave, Unfortunately, I didnt have a good chance to check them out with the kids in the car. I call from home after noticing a problem with the lens they didnt replace and the frame. They say no problem and say to bring them in when I can. I do. The manager then insists there is nothing they can do bc they dont have proof its their fault. I should have inspected them and found the problem in the store. I think they should have found the problem first but, hey, what do I know, Im just the customer. She was rude and never asked my expectations. She would not even put the lens back in the frame correctly :-(

Experience would have been 5 stars but the unfriendly two receptionists ruined a prefect review. I arrived at 8:50am and the reception floor had no chairs and was getting mopped. Neither women acknowledged me at all. They spoke to each other in Spanish the entire time I sat waiting for my eye screening which made me feel like they were talking about me or something they didnt want anyone to hear. While checking out another customer they showed no signs of urgency whatsoever. The technician, Mark was professional and explained every eye test performed. Andy was a great help to me in selecting my frames and seemed genuinely attentive about my concerns getting prescribed Progressives for the first time. He showed me a few different tint options and was very knowledgeable and friendly. Dr. Hutchins was very thorough in her eye exam, answered all of my questions and concerns and never rushed me through the appointment. Overall a good experience but the front desk needs new people who care to go with the rest of the staff who are wonderful.

I rarely write reviews, but my experience at this office was outstanding. From the first call, the receptionist looked up my VSP insurance information, and scheduled a convenient appointment for me. When I arrived, my name was on their marker board as welcoming me as a new patient, and they took me back to conduct tests right away. No waiting, no hassle. Doctor Dunlap saw me very promptly, answered all my questions, made some helpful suggestions, and described precisely what she wanted to monitor in my retina. I purchased some prescription sunglasses there, and was pleasantly surprised how many stylish options they offered. Ive had glasses for 40 years, and been to eye doctors in many different states. Many offices dont have the most up to date styles, but this TSO office did. I ordered the glasses, expecting them to be available in 10 days, but they arrived in five. From start to finish, this office did and continues to do an outstanding job. I almost look forward to going back to the eye doctor often.
