WORST billing department. Dont even think about coming here! Ive waited 4 months to resolve a billing issue and have called likely well over 10 times to try to resolve it, also had to call my insurance company multiple times. Yes, I was out of network, but there were so many issues billing to my two insurances and my insurance company denied a claim because they were "billed twice" for it. The insurance company claims it sent paperwork to the health center, which the health center did not receive, and my insurance company has been quite reliable when working with other clinics, so I believe them! Update June 2017- Finally, I needed to just graduate since my insurance couldnt be coordinated, so I PAID the charge IN FULL from my bank (despite me having two great health insurance plans), only to have it re-post to my account weeks later as another $100+ bill. Im double insured and usually pay nothing at most clinics. Thats why Ill go to Intermountain or any other clinic thats not BYU-owned. So happy Ill never go here again. Stay away if you dont want ENDLESS BILLING NIGHTMARES not worth your time. I paid them, and the the bill duplicated itself (not because it was late, but due to errors in their system)! You can get better care somewhere else where you spend more time with the doctor than the billing department (e.g. anywhere else). The Intermountain clinic is a bike ride or short drive away. Or, any other clinic. Just dont go here.

I really do think they try, but the SHC has a number of things playing against it. The hours, for one, are tricky for most students. Especially for the pharmacy (and urgent care while were at it). They have very little stock in the pharmacy so they typically have to order medications which takes a few days. Its tricky to transfer to another pharmacy if youre in a bind. A lot of the doctors there are contracted, so they will only be there once a week or so, so many times youll be scheduling out things weeks (or months) in advance. BYU doesnt offer any ACA-compliant health plans (for understandable reasons) so if you make even a dollar more than the minimum threshold, you get fined for not having minimum essential coverage. My wife and I also have had a lot of issues with billing. Weve had to do serious follow-up on some bills that required multiple visits to the billing folks upstairs who had trouble working with our insurance company. The actual treatment the doctors my wife and I have received has actually been pretty good.

STUDENTS AND PARENTS: Get some other kind of insurance do not go with BYU. The doctors, front desk and pharmacy in my opinion are completely unprofessional. I have been there several times over the years and they dont know how to work with and treat a myriad of problems. When I got stitches/tetanus booster I asked over and over how much extra it would cost and they kept telling me it was all covered because I had the student health plan. Turns out I still paid $80 for the shot. I get that they dont know prices and stuff but dont straight up lie to me just to get my money. Im a poor college student and it wasnt a necessary to get the booster I had recently gotten the shot. BYU seriously needs to fix this place or shut it down. I dont know who put good reviews on here everyone I know who has used the health center is frustrated with it. Maybe it is because of one doctor who helped a few specific problems they had...but if you are looking for real, comprehensive, fair priced health care with competent doctors look elsewhere.

BYUs pharmacy is typically pretty fast, and rarely is out of stock on the medicine I need, even if I dont call in the prescription ahead of time. However, unlike most pharmacies, they wont tell you if you are on your last refill until you attempt to call in the next one. This, as can be expected, is an extremely irresponsible and dangerous practice, since many medications are necessary on a daily basis and most doctors cannot see you within a day--especially specialty doctors like endocrinologists, whose patients need their medicine even hourly if they wish to avoid hospitalization. This, combined with the fact that the pharmacy has extremely limited hours and closes on all university holidays makes it a bad place to fill your prescriptions if you could need your medicine at short notice or will have difficulty getting immediate or regular doctor refills. Despite these problems, the pharmacists and staff are kind and patient.

Dont go here for mental health issues. They put me on medications that had really negative side effects but instead of taking me off and trying a new medication, they kept adding medications to take care of the side effects. I got super sick and eventually went to a different doctor off campus who had me immediately stop taking those medications. He was really surprised that I had been given such high dosages of each medication without any warning of serotonin syndrome, which is what he diagnosed me with. When combining the types of medication my doctor at the SHC had she should have given me side effects to look for. Serotonin syndrome is deadly and who knows what would have happened had I not gone elsewhere. It might be okay for other problems, but if you have mental health needs, please go see someone who can help you mentally without accidentally killing you.

I called twice today to see if my husband could get in any earlier than his 3 pm appointment for one purpose because he has sudden severe light sensitivity. The first call I got the "all receptionists are busy, please try online or wait on hold" message on repeat for 4 minutes and then the other line hung up on me. The second call I actually got to talk to someone, and the instant I asked if there were any openings available before 3 she hung up on me. This only adds to our previous frustrations with the student health center. Last year my husband was given 5 different diagnoses over 5 visits for the same problem. We saw a dermatologist (the very one recommended bt the SHC) and got it solved in one visit, along with an opinion that all but the first diagnosis from the SHC were very misled, and some didnt even have anything to do with the main symptom.

Generally the doctors and receptionists at the front desk and pharmacy have been kind, but I have had a few experiences with one particularly rude receptionist. I was just a few min late to one of my appointments and she totally blew up on me, as if I was wasting the time of some Johns Hopkins world-renowned heart surgeon. They are also terrible about letting you know about payments. Even if you have the student health plan, they never seem to bother telling you how much an appointment or lab is going to cost. I have had tons of charges from them on my student account, and I am sure that some have been repeats for the same thing. Although all of the doctors I have met with have been nice, I didnt find them particularly helpful with specific problems. I would definitely recommend going elsewhere, its worth paying extra.

Very negative experience here. Scheduled an appointment with a specific female doctor for a premarital examination and because of a scheduling mistake on the part of those making appointments she couldnt see me. The ladies at the front desk were quite rude and acted as though I was an inconvenience to them. I ended up being handed off to an elderly man doctor who told me twice that "I sure asked a lot of questions." Coming to the doctor is already a vulnerable and sometime scary experience and the environment and events that occurred just made an already frightening experience all the more terrifying. It was bad vibes 100%. This is the first and last time I will ever go to the BYU health center. Just didnt feel safe or welcome.
