We have been clients of Dr. MacQueen since we first brought our two guys home over twelve years ago. In fact, we adopted a female from her clinic. She has seen us through some tough times. She spent time late one evening instructing me on giving Frankie insulin twice a day when I didnt think I had it in me, and is available at any time for me to ask questions about his blood sugar and help me adjust his dosage. Her availability helped me gain confidence in my ability to handle Frankies diabetes. When Smokey couldnt fight cancer anymore, Dr. MacQueen cried with us and gently sent her on her way. Now she is seeing us through Frankies arthritis and Toppers dementia especially on their "bad" days. We chose Midway so many years ago because of Docs work with rescue animals and wildlife. Many times we have been in the waiting room when Animal Control has brought in an injured, ill, or abused animal. I have never heard Midway turn anyone away. The night Dr. MacQueen helped me practice giving shots she was staying late to euthanize two dogs whose "Mom and Dad" were weeping in the other room. I asked her, "How do you do it?" She replied, "It goes with the territory. I cry with them and move on to help someones elses best friend." We have always found the staff to be interested, involved, competent, and responsive. They routinely call after one of our visits to check up on Frankie and Topper. There are many other veterinary clinics closer to our home. We would not consider going anywhere else.

Never really satisfied with their customer service, my last nerve was plucked when my dog came into the clinic with obvious health concerns. We told Dr. Ruth Ann MacQueen our concerns and she dismissed them, stating that she could not see anything wrong with my dog after she had felt his belly and took his temperature (activities that cost $80). She was extremely rude, telling my brother and me to "sit" like WE were dogs. Two days later I brought my dog to another clinic (he looked and acted the same way as he did the day we visited Dr. Ruth Ann MacQueen) where the doctor immediately noticed that something was wrong. Turns out my dog had pancreatitis and was severely dehydrated. We checked him into an emergency hospital where he was on fluids for 24 hours. He is currently recovering. It is also known that Dr. Ruth Ann MacQueen has killed a dog on the operating table during a routine procedure. Unfortunately, that information has been removed from the Virginia Department of Health Professions website (it has been more than 90 days), if not, I would have been more than happy to provide a link. If you want quality care for your loved one, this is NOT the place for you to go. Needless to say, my dog and I will be going elsewhere.

This review has been long overdue. My beautiful teddy bear hamster was sick and getting older. Took my hamster in for a visit for the first time and she unfortunately passed away the next day, even with proper meds, however I appreciated how nice and friendly the staff was and how sensitive they were to my situation. I knew deep down inside she was on her way out but I still wanted to see what they could do. When they found out she had passed, the woman on the phone was more than compassionate and understanding to me and thereafter, they kindly sent me a card of condolences. Though I know she was just a hamster, she was like my world as in my apartment I couldnt have a dog or cat and she and the other hamster I had really made my day when Id come home from work or grad school. They were truly a blessing to have but I am thankful that the clinic helped me in the process of saying goodbye just the same. I would definitely recommend.

Not the best hospital for guinea pig care. They may be able help more common problems like utis and bladder stones(issues with clear signs). However, issues without clear signs that require more knowledge, experience, and equipment to diagnose. I found that they couldnt offer my guniea pig the help she needed. Bad judgement by both doctors ended up worsening my pets condition. I wouldnt have brought my pet here had it not been for the conveience of it being close to my location (bad decsion). This is not a bad hospital by any means. The staff is very polite and the doctors are smart, they just dont know guinea pigs as well as they do other animals (cats, dogs, birds, etc). They were not able to help my pet and thats why I gave them a low review.

Dr. Poutous is extremely caring and knowledgeable with exotics. He listens. I trust his judgment. He and his staff strive to find the most affordable treatment. The office provides cold laser pain relief for small animals as well as large. Dr. Poutous has been in the area for many years and sits on the board of several local rescue/wildlife organizations. His education is outstanding. He continues to research and learn new treatments and drug therapy for exotics. He is flexible in his thoughts about using new information and experimental drugs.

My family and I absolutely love this animal hospital, and especially Dr. Poutous. About a year ago we had to make one of the hardest decisions. We had to put down the best dog anyone could hope for. We lost a family member... But Dr. Poutous and the rest of the staff were amazing. They were there every step of the way for Rufus, and for us. From the first day that we brought him in, til the last day that he was with us. I cant thank them enough for everything theyve done, and I will always bring my little babies to be seen by them.

I absolutely love their care for animals. My pets are not currently patients here, but I have brought in a baby bird that the ferral cats around here had attacked and left for dead. They told us with a little re-hydration the bird would be fine and released back in the area again. This is a place I definitely will be changing my business too. My other vet charges me almost 200 for a routine checkup per pet and told us they dont do birds and the only thing they would provide was to put the bird down.

I relinquished my rights of my guinea pig who was near death to save him so he wouldnt die a baby and the receptionist Heidi was rude I dislike the way we were treated I just wanted my sons and I to see him one last time because we loved him dearly. To deny my sons and I that broke my heart ! She was stand offish as if she didnt care we did not want to touch him since he was very ill. I understand fully we signed him over we just needed closure. I wanted him to have a chance to live and thrive.

Dr. Poutous (pronounced POTUS) is absolutely fantastic. He has taken care of all of my furbabies for years. We followed him from his previous hospital. Him along with his team take extra special care of my furbabies. The whole team is highly educated and they love to pass on their knowledge to their clients. They all make you feel welcomed and like you and your babies are a part of their family!
