I have been taking my cats to Banfield since I got them in July 2014. Ive experienced many administrative frustrations. They have not been able to change my account information after I got married two years ago (my account still has an incorrect name on it). Theyve cancelled an order of highly anticipated flea medication (which was ordered through their website) without reaching out to me. I had to discover this myself when a week passed and I hadnt received it and the fleas were driving me up the wall. I have been sent home several times with medication to administer to my cats, myself and Ive been sent away without tests having been done and told to collect my own samples from the cats. I found it reported in the visit summary that one of my cats has "behavioral problems," but the doctor did not address that with me. I wasnt able to schedule one of the bi-annual checkups in time for their liking, so they told me I just couldnt do it. Really, a service that I paid for they insisted I could not have. For all issues, they defer responsibility to "corporate." The times Ive tried to talk to corporate, even they werent able to complete admin tasks and really, theyre just there to talk you out of cancelling your plan. Today was the last straw. I woke up at 0700 to bring my two cats in for an appointment that was scheduled a couple months ago. I walked in with two screeching cats at 0730 in the morning to find they had cancelled my appointment. It was explained to me that they called me three times and couldnt get confirmation, so they gave someone else my appointment. Yes, I got a new phone number recently and Banfield was not at the top of my list for updating my number. Thats my fault. However, I asked why they didnt email me and why they wouldnt have called my husbands phone number, which I have written on every appointment form I have given them. I was not given sufficient answers to these questions. It shows me that I am not valued as a customer that they would give up after calling a phone number which isnt currently active three times. Im not sure why they decided to call it two more times only to listen to the message that lets you know it isnt active. I assume they were trying to check their boxes so they could turn me away in the morning. Although the girl at the desk was trying hard to be nice and rescheduled my appointment and finally recorded my husbands phone number in my account, it just wasnt sufficient to redeem them as a business. Perhaps letting my cats be seen today after I told the girl I took off of work to bring them in would have rectified this, or maybe even an apologetic attitude. (Instead I was met with the good old "these are the policies" speech.) However, I will not be renewing my Optimum Wellness plan and I will not be able to recommend this business. They have shown themselves to be far too impersonal, inflexible and incompetent or lacking any sort of authority in administrative areas. After three years of this (and trying to cancel once before only to be talked out of it) I am ready to move on to a conventional veterinarian office.

Petsmart sold me a chinchilla who weighed half of what he should weigh. He had seizures five days after I purchased him. I returned him to them to have him seen by the vet at Banfield then picked him up the same day. Later he got even more sick so I took him to a vet who told me he was severely underweight and that was what caused his seizures. When I went to Petsmart to see his paperwork from Banfield they told me that the vet didnt perform any tests on him while he was there and just "observed" him to see if hed have any more seizures. I asked if he was weighed and they said he was, but did not show me his paperwork. I dont know how they could not know that he weighed less than half of what he should weigh. He also had parasites. Before I even took him to Banfield I asked if they deal with chinchillas and I was assured that they do. I dont know how they could look at him a day after he had five seizures and not know that he weighed less than half of what he should weigh and not perform ANY tests on him at all. Im not even sure if he was ever weighed because I was not able to look at his paperwork. They could have just told me they dont deal with chinchillas. My pet almost died because they didnt care enough to tell me the truth.

I have been foolish enough to take my pets here on more than one occasion. The first time i had to wait a long time but i figured i would give them a chance because they were very apologetic and the Dr. was decent. The next time i was pressured into the wellness plan and the so called Doctor seemed inexperienced and looked like she was right out of High School. They never could give an answer as to the problem my pet had either. I went back for shots that were supposedly needed against my will,(i pleaded with them that my pet already was up to date) and oh my goodness this place must think we the people of Norfolk are made of money!! They charged a double office visit and the price was over a hundred dollars. Of course I did not have the money and they were less than understanding. They give you 10 days to pay or it goes to a collection agency. The lady told me it must have been a misunderstanding. How many times have i heard that line from sleazy businesses before? I am so disgusted. Needless to say i will never be returning to Banfield again.

Ive been dealing with Banfield for over 4 years. I have taken all of my pets that I have owned there and I love it. I was never pressured into buying a plan for my pets or anything. I have had all of my dogs on the plans from the moment I got them and it has been such a blessing. The spays are covered and all office visits. I can take my dogs in there any time I want to and be seen and its all covered. The ladys at the front desk are always so nice and know me and all my pets personally and always ask how I am. I go to the one that is in the Petsmart off N. Millitary Hwy and the vets there are just fantastic. When my dog had problems with his legs they did not try and get me to do x-rays right away. Instead they offered another course of treatment that was so much cheaper and worked great. They are always pleasant and listen to me when I have questions, concerns, or just are talking about the newest shoe that they used as a chew toy. I recommend Banfield highly.

I have been taking my golden to Banfield at Military HWY for 5 years. They are great! Nice friendly and always helpful. I signed up for the optimum wellness plan and it has been the best. the onlything I have had to pay for were medications and even they were discounted. My New Pup is on the puppy plan and they have been great with him and his quirks. He is on the puppy plan, and its been a great help. I only ever pay for ear cleanings and nail clipings and triflexis when I go in. Read the find print in your wellness plan contract before you agree. They are very rigid on the rules. Ask questions if you dont understand the verbiage, and if you need to cancel make sure you notify them in writing in person of you are still under contract.
