I was a new client that decided to take my pet here after moving to Norfolk. After exhausting all other methods of getting rid of fleas, I decided to set up an appointment. Dr Pope found a mass while assessing my pets tummy and he told me to go to the ER. Dr Pope repeatedly said "This is a large mass inside her abdomen and it doesnt look good. This wont have a good ending." He said this at least 4 times during his assessment. One time wouldve been enough. I get that some pet owners are not responsible and wont pay to get their pets treated when it gets too expensive but My pets are my babies so I assured him I would go straight to the ER with her. His bedside manner was not friendly or caring. I did go to the ER and they said that since she was stable and acting normal (ie eating, drinking, pottying) that they would refer me to the internal medicine doctor and I could go to my pets vet to get blood work since they wouldnt charge as much as the ER would for blood work. That doctor said they could do the x-ray but internal medicine doctor will do an ultrasound which will tell us a lot just with that test so we could refuse x-ray for now. I made the appt immediately for less than a week. Came back to Dr POPE and i explained what they had said about getting blood work with him because it would be cheaper and their was no emergent need for it to be done at the ER since she was stable. He accused me of lying and said in my paperwork it says you refused the blood work. He then proceeded to show me what it said. I used to work at the pet ER and of course they have to say refused bloodwork if that was something they said the pet needed. There was no other comment stating my conversation with the ER vet that I could go back to Dr pope for the bloodwork. Dr Pope continued to be rude and said my pet will HAVE to have surgery and the outcome will be bad. He was trying to be heartless and cruel. Needless to say I went to A PROFESSIONAL internal medicine doctor who did the ultrasound and found that surgery would not be an option for her since they wouldnt be able to get the tumor due to the location and the way it was intertwined with multiple organs. Dr Brewer was kind and sweet. His bedside manner was amazing and he explained that chemo does not work in this type of cancer. Of course, I was devastated but Dr Brewer was caring in the way he explained her outcome. He told me I could call anytime if I had questions. Dr Pope was the worst experience I have had with a veterinarian and I worked with at least 8 during the years I worked at the Emergency vet. The staff at his office were nice but Dr Pope was rude and unkind. I spent more than $900 on tests and exams total between, the ER, Dr Pope, and Dr Brewer. If anything, Dr Pope should see that as a responsible pet owner, I am doing what it takes to get her the care she needs. DO NOT GO TO DR POPE if you want to be respected and your pets health cared for in a loving manner.

Visited this Vet clinic today. Dr. Pope was very nice and professional. I was seen on time and appointment went well. My only complaint would be about the young woman working the front desk. There were two ladies working there so this would be the blond haired girl. She didnt greet me when I entered the building. (my dog and I were the only ones there) She didnt smile once while we were there. She spoke very quietly and never looked me in the eye while communicating. When my appt. was over and I was paying the bill, I asked if they had a military discount. She snidely replied that "we try to offer a good rate to all our customers". Of course she didnt look at me when she said this. Now, I will return to this clinic but only for the Vet himself.

Doctor Pope and his team are great. He has saved my golden retrievers life not once but twice from a uteran infection. He told me to have her fixed years before for the health of the dog. I did not listen and it ended up costing me thousands and thousands of dollars for emergency surgery to save her. His bedside manor may not be for everyone, but his intentions are for the care and welbeing of your pet. Like it or not. He is a good doctor and I am sad to learn he has retired.

I have taken my pets to Dr. Pope for 25 years. He and his staff have always provided the best care possible. I take in animals that have been rejected from others and have been un-adoptable from shelters. I would not take these guys anywhere else. Regardless of the condition of the animal I drag in there I am greeted by the girls, Pam, Kate, and Maria with a smile and the second time I come they know my pet and the animals love them. Dr. Pope and his staff are the best!

I started seeing Dr Pope several years back when I was treated bad by a vet staff I had been with for 25 years. I was skeptical at first but Dr Pope was very thorough straight forward and took his time. He never pushed tests that were not needed and prices are more then fair. We just met the New Dr that took over after he retired and we like her alot, a fresh new office look and more todays technology Vet. Ill miss Dr Pope and wish him well in his retirement.

I completely appreciate the honesty in which this vet clinic treated me. Ive had so many vet clinics play up on my sympathies and try to nickel and dime me for unnecessary services and this place was the opposite of that. I received honest, supportive techniques for dealing with my cats health issues and the technician who spoke with me was knowledgable and truly caring. I totally recommend this vet clinic.

Wonderful Animal handlers, both Vets & Techs. Its surprising how many people in the business arent good with animals. They had us in and out in short order, charged reasonably without trying to add to the bill, and made the visit as non traumatic for us (people and pup alike) as could be asked for.

Both the staff and the doctor are great. Ive never seen a dog that loved to go to the vet as much as my dog does. The staff is always curtious and responsive, while Dr. Pope is a great listener and I feel that he doesnt automatically run to medication as the answer. Prices are also fair.

Ive been coming here my entire pet-owning life, and the doctors and staff are wonderful! While I miss Dr. Pope, his successor Dr. Capps is equally competent and clearly cares about the well-being of her patients. I trust this office with my babies, and thats the highest complement I can offer!
