Today was our (me and my dog Elwood) visit to VCA and we had a wonderful experience! We moved to Norfolk in August and were seeing a vet recommended to us who just retired. I decided to try VCA because of the great reviews and the coupon for the free first visit. I am so glad we we did! Elwood loved the vet assistant and the vet, which was a complete change from his first vet in Norfolk. When he would visit his old vet, he would pee on the floor and have to be muzzled. It was a completely different experience at VCA! Albert, our vet assistant, introduced himself to me and Elwood. He got on the floor with Elwood for the initial exam, let Elwood sniff him and the instruments, and spoke to him in a calm and kind voice. He had very good energy because Elwood responded very well! Elwood basically climbed in Alberts lap at one point for cuddles! Our appointment with Dr. Alan Thompson was awesome! He came in and introduced himself to both me and Elwood before getting on the floor to examine Elwood. Elwood responded very well to him like with Albert. He was completely relaxed and rolled over at one point to let Dr. Thomspon rub his belly, so he was obviously very comfortable with him! The vet took the time to go over everything with me and talk about Elwoods needs. When Albert came in with the treatment proposal and cost breakdown, it was great because he explained everything to me and they offered two different options at different price points. I appreciated this because vets can be so expensive and you dont always know what you are paying for. Elwood and I both left very happy! I will definitely continue taking him to VCA and to see Dr. Thompson. Such a great experience!

My 10 week old kitten was very sick and getting dehydrated fast. I called numerous places around 3 pm on a week day to see if anyone had availability that day or next, with no luck. I wanted to avoid emergency vet costs, and luckily the VCA care center had walk-ins until 5 pm. Got there and was seen almost immediately! The technicians were very friendly/gentle with my pet, and the vet (Dr. Rash) was the best, ensuring that we covered all bases to make sure his ailment could be treated properly and fully. She also helped educate us on proper care and the best way to go about getting his shots and neuter. The office and vet assistants were great with following up through the following weeks to see how my pet was doing, and it was easy getting a follow up appointment set up after 5 pm. Distance is a little far, but I appreciate their flexibility and care! Will continue to go there to ensure Jax gets back on his feet!

I was so excited when we first found this vet. Dr. Thompson is the best doctor that I have ever encounter, unfortunately I feel that his talent and kindness is wasted at that place. Since we have started going we only saw Dr. Thompson once. They only have two vets that work at that location and there is never a day when both doctors are in. The people at the front desk get very rude and short with you. When you need a prescription the doctor has to approve it first, even if you are coming in for a refill! I wouldnt trust anything that the vet techs say because obviously the doctor does not trust the vet techs enough to do refills. I would not recommend this vet to anyone, Dr. Thompson is the only good thing about that place.

The VCA on W. Little Creek is phenomenal. Dr. Thompson is fantastic. We switched to him after a horrible and traumatic experience at Sajo Farm in Virginia Beach, so Dr. Thompson was my dogs final doctor for the last year of his life. My dog was on the hyper side, so he hated going to the Vets office, but Dr. Thompson seemed to calm him down. I believe my dog genuinely liked him. And when he was put down, Dr. Thompson explained to us exactly what to expect and allowed us to be with him during the process. I was heartbroken afterwards, and Dr. Thompson actually gave me a hug and was very compassionate. Hes a wonderful man, and I will forever take my pets to VCA. The entire team there is very professional.

The Vet is fine but one of the ladies at the desk projected terrible customer service. In addition, she made false claims to a customer that were definitely un-true but I kept my mouth shut because I didnt want to be negatively impacted during my visit that day. Another small, but still important annoyance is that VCA does not work with 1-800-Pet-Meds. Theyll write you a prescription but wont approve communications (fax, email, or phone) with the company, but instead will refer you to their in house products. I would give VCA "Good" instead of Poor-Fair but the customer service aspect is incredibly crucial to me and so Ive decided to move to another vet as a result. Form your own opinion!

VCA- Amazing vets and technicians horrible customer service- I spent a total of an hour and half with two very anxious dogs at this Vet. When we finally saw the vet he was wonderful with our dogs. But when I finally got done our paperwork was mixed up and I had to let the customer service lady know. Also the charges seemed a little high, my previous vet charged around 30 dollars for a simple exam and they charged around 45. It was a looong visit overall and I liked the vet but the customer service people were bad.

We LOVE this VCA. The staff is AMAZING, FRIENDLY, KNOWLEDGEABLE. Michael the vet tech was AMAZING!!! The Vet we see Alan C. Thompson is WONDERFUL! He gets on the floor and plays with our fur baby, he is straight forward, he is informative, he takes the time to explain and talk with us, hes not in a hurry. He answers our questions. If you are looking for a pace to take your fur babies, look no further. VCA Animal Care Center on W. Little Creek Road is the place to go.

Today, I had to put down my cat, who was very ill, and all of the staff at this care center were so incredibly kind, patient, and compassionate. I dont have words to describe my gratitude to them, for allowing my sweet baby to go in peace and dignity, and for being so very kind and gentle to us all. They are some truly wonderful people, there, and I could not recommend them more. I will never forget all they did for us, right there at the end.

Dr. Thompson and the entire staff are fantastic, I lost my pumi Sandy to diabetes and the neglect at Friendship across the street 3 years ago and have been vet shopping ever since (poor Elwwod my Cairnoodle was the guinea pig), we found VCA and Dr. Thompson just in time for a new puppy, Archie. Everyone in this practice is kind and caring and Dr. Thompson is the absolute best.....

The clinic has been the vet for our dogs for 6 years and everytime we interact with them the more amazed we are.Today 4/5/17 our oldest dog had an emergency and we called on our way in and as soon as we walked in,they got us in a room and liaisoned us with another hospital when they determined our pupp needed more special treatment. Could not recommend this clinic more.
