Weve been taking our pets to Dominion Animal Hospital 20+ years. The customer service has gone steadily downhill. There seems to be a total disconnect between the front office staff and the doctors. We had a huge issue last summer and planned to look for a new vet then but got busy with other things. Now we got the wake up call we needed to make the effort to find a more efficient and more caring practice. I took my cat in on a Tuesday evening because hed lost his appetite. We paid $500 for an x-ray and blood work. When I called Friday because I still hadnt heard, I was told the results were in and someone would call me by close of business. I got the call Saturday instead and the doctor said hed been out sick--as if one of the other doctors couldnt read a simple blood panel? He prescribed an antibiotic for the "raging infection" and I requested an appetite stimulant. I made the request twice yet when my son went to pick up the antibiotic he was told the doctor would need to see the cat again (so more money for another office visit) before prescribing the appetite stimulant. He knew very well nothing had changed with the cats appetite and even had the nerve to write "take w/ food" on the antibiotic. On Monday we took our cat to another vet who hydrated and force fed my cat and sent us home w/ an appetite stimulant but it was too little, too late. We had to put my cat down just one week after the original blood test. To add insult to injury, the office called to collect on the antibiotic but never even asked about the cat they have been treating for 12 years. When I went to pay for the antibiotic, I asked for my other cats records and told them wed be going elsewhere. With zero compassion or interest in my cats, the woman simply said, "okay". Wow, I got a more passionate reaction from the mechanic I left!!

We had our dog Jazz with another vet in town at first and they were outright nasty and rude at times. Dominion Animal was recommended to us and what a change. Everyone there loves animals at this place. And they are not putting on an act; they sincerely love what they are doing. Jazz had a few issues all her life and they took great care of her. She would always walk around to the ladies at their desks when I brought her in for a checkup. Just like they were family she would say hello and they loved her back. They were always excited to see her. Even after we had to put Jazz down they sent us a sincere letter of sadness - it was sincere, not a letter they had to send for marketing reasons. They always wondered if they would see Jazz again as she got older. At 16 years she lived a very long life for a Rottie. The doctors were always first rate and helped Jazz live a full life of 16 years! While we miss Jazz very much ,we have a new rescue dog now and will be taking her to Dominion for all her vet needs. Great place! Highly recommend and reasonably priced!! But more than anything else, the people the docs there are really the best!!!

They REALLY over charge for their services. We recently had a problem with our cat. No surgery was required, but it wound up costing us over $1600. They stated that they would cap the price at $1400, but found $200 in extra costs, and even wound up charging us extra to help us give the cat meds before we left. We looked around for other vets and found out that he procedure they did for our cat should have been no more that $700. The doctors did take good care of our cat, but we cannot even afford to go back, if the cat gets sick again. They recently quoted us $400 to neuter our kitten, a rescue cat. We found several recommended vets that we can get neutering done, for $125-$150 (with all the same pain meds and care).

I have been going to Dominion Animal hospital since we moved to Herndon over a decade ago. I heartily recommend Dr. Wallace--She loves kitties and even adopts some kitties that cant be placed elsewhere. When my cat was terminal, she recommended another vet who could come to my house to put her to sleep. She was as crushed as I was when my other elderly kitty developed liver problems and had to be put to sleep also. I resent earlier reviews saying that the staff and doctors are insensitive or uncaring--yes, you do wait forever to be seen and if you need to go elsewhere you can. Dominion has emergencies like any other vet--they arent ignoring you because they dont care!

My family has gone to Dominion since moving to the Herndon area 30+ years ago. We have always had a great experience with the staff and doctors at Dominion. They have treated our pets as though they were their own. Dominion has been more than willing to take our pets in during an emergency, which has happened on numerous occasions with the seven dogs weve had over the span of these years. If they are not open, they direct you to the HOPE center in Vienna, which were also a big fan of. We trust them with our fuzzy babies!

Our experience was great all around. The vet found a polyp that 3 other vets missed. We never had to wait a long time for any of the numerous visits. Our cat was difficult and they were always able to handle him. The prices were much more reasonable than many other vets. When we had to put our cat down recently they treated the cat and us with great respect and solemnity. Afterward, they sent us a condolence card personally signed. by all the people who had treated our cat with nice little comments about our cat.w

Unfortunately, really bad experience here. Completely disorganized, repeated and charged for unnecessary tests, did not have medications available as promised, no follow-up with test/lab results. Nice people but very disorganized. I agree with the other reviewers that it is expensive also. I would have been willing to pay more if the service matched the cost, sadly, it did not. I will say that Dr. Bourke seems knowledgeable and does seem to genuinely care. However, overall, a poor experience.

I took our black lab Odie in for a checkup since he has been having some hip pain. We saw Dr. Bourke who was really excellent. He gave our dog a nice looking at and determined his hips are degenerative (not his spine or neck or anything). He gave us lots of options for treatment (the whole spectrum). He prescribed inexpensive pain medicine for now and was not pushy about expensive surgeries etc. Very clean and nicely staffed facility, its very good place, recommended from a neighbor.

We changed from Clocktower to Dominion and have never looked back, very friendly staff, they care about the animals and us the owners. They always work to get animals in, appointments have been same day for serious issues and the little things like cards, reminders etcetera are done in style. Lastly, while all pet care can be steep, they are more affordable than the last couple of places weve lived, and certainly more affordable than Clocktower.
