Recently having moved into the area, I was looking for a vet office. My older dog, having many health issues-epilepsy, hip dysplasia, an enlarged liver and a cancer survivor who had recently had surgery to remove a tumor, received the best care she could have received anywhere, at any office. I know this to be true as we were given every chance to choose what we wanted to do for treatments, it was explained what would be best for her issues and explained thoroughly. As we treated her, I often received calls from our Doctor to check up on her progress or decline. When it came time to let her go, we were given a room, our whole family attending, to see her to the other side, to comfort her and sit with her on the floor holding her so she had no fear nor knew what was happening. A dignified end to a wonderful life. Dr. Thigpen was candid but compassionate and did not push us to do anything we did not wish to do. After making the devastating decision to let her pass, Dr. stayed with us until Jayne was gone and gave us time to stay with her for as long as we wanted. We were not bombarded with a bill as soon as we walked out of the room, which we expected as business is business. We were in tears and grieving and did not receive our bill until 30 days later via mail. It was a relief because if I had to sign a credit card slip after losing my best friend that Id had by my side for 10 years, since she was a baby, I think I would have fainted on the floor. I would recommend this office to anyone who cares about their companion and wishes to receive compassionate care.-Michele White

Not only did they try to get more money out of us by doing unauthorized test as mentioned in our previous post, when we were home and were relaxing the very same evening as taking our pet to the VCA Herdon Reston Animal Hospital, we noticed our dog had a massive bruise on his chest. Now this the type of dog that can play around in our backyard and wrestle with the kids and never get a mark. Now he has a bruise larger then a mans fist, maybe the size of a small dinner plate right on his chest between his front legs. I am absolutely furious! Its been a few days now and its still visible. Photos have been taken and I am contacting the better business bureau. I dont know what they did to my dog when they took him in the back but there is no reason at all that my sweet extra people friendly dog should have a mark on him. And before you ask NO we did nothing other then let him lay on the couch after his visit since we know that they can feel a bit under the weather for 24 hours. NEVER TAKE YOUR PET TO THEM!!!

The staff here has been great with my very difficult rottweiler. Hes a loving dog who hates to have things done against his will, and then becomes problematic. Their approach is reserved. Ive been given options, recommendations, and suggested things that I shouldnt avoid or delay and they specify which is which. It is very expensive for the work. The visit is $70 per animal, per visit. I would suggest looking at cheaper options if you can find them for routine or minor needs. I would also look at the cost of a pet insurance plan (reimbursement plan) if you need extensive work done, as their pet plan is significantly more expensive than regular pet insurance and covers less. PetFirst is cheaper and covers a more broad array of work. Plus it works at different businesses instead of just VCA They also have been great at suggesting cheaper options in the event that cost is a concern for services outside of their offices. Bring your pet here if you have the funds to support it and youll leave happy.

We have been going to Herndon-Reston Animal Hospital for longer than I can remember. We have spent 4-5 thousand dollars in the past 2 years on our 2 dogs. We took our dogs in yesterday for their annual checkup, shots, etc and picked up the dogs at noon (after paying $566.13). While we were in the parking lot, one of the dogs threw-up. We went back into the office and they asked us to leave the dog for the afternoon for observation. When we picked up the dog at 5:00 THEY CHARGED US ANOTHER OFFICE VISIT FEE OF $50! There were several other charges of approx $80 (for tests run) that I understand paying for, but charging a 2nd office fee because we walked out the door is obsurd! This is not the first time they have done something similar, but it will be the last! They wouldnt remove the charges, but offered us 2 free pedicures. Wow thanks, but we will be taking our pets elsewhere!

The staff at VCA are very professional and caring. When I was worried about my dog, the friendly receptionist was able to make me an appointment the same day. I took my 15 year old German Shepherd here for some cumulative health problems. The vet was was compassionate and did not try to pressure my decision and was realistic about my dogs prospects. They gave me time to mourn my dog - his passing was very comfortable and painless. There were no "surprise charges" and they let me settle my bill before the procedure, knowing that it would be painful afterwards. Im so glad that I decided to go here, because its a difficult enough process without the support of a good vet staff. I would recommend VCA on Elden.

Having 30 years experience with this clinic I have always had faith in their care of my pets, both cats and dogs. VCA made changes when they bought this practice several years ago and I do miss the family owned atmosphere, but I am more focused on the best care for my pets.....hands down...this is the place. As I have learned, dont believe everything you hear and only half of what you see. Dr. Michaels founded this clinic before it was owned by VCA and is still there. That speaks volumes for me.

I went to Herndon reston for two years with my Rat Terrier. She began having problems with her GI tract. Test after test after test, just bleeding me dry, they still had no answer just kept on making more appointments and the "lets wait and see" attitude. After taking my dog to another Vet, after the first visit found out she has CANCER in her liver and speen..!! Please do not go here if you value your animal!!

the hospital manager is a witch, this hospital has been run into the ground since they sold to VCA. its not a family practice anymore its a part of the money seeking corporation. I used to love the doctors and staff but i think the changes made by VCA are driving clients away. I spoke to a bunch of people who have worked there and they all quit when VCA took over. need i say more? stay away from VCA

Receptionist was very unfriendly on the phone and in person. High prices and pressure to have unnecessary procedures done. The technicians were nice, but I will look for a new vet.
