In order for me to take time out and write about it, a business has to impress me strongly in a positive or negative manner Too many times it seems that I stop to write negative ones. Luckily that is not the case here. If you want the absolute best care for your pet, then you shouldnt look anywhere else but here. We found this practice well over a year ago after numerous negative experiences at Banfield. We wanted a neighborhood vet, a staff that would get to know us and more importantly our dog. HAMC was exactly that kind of place; during our very first visit the doctor who saw us took the time during the exam to get to know us as parents, and to get to know our dog too. Playing with him, giving him treats, never pushing him when he was uncomfortable. It was the kind of care we were looking for. This type of attention and love continued as we returned for exams and check ups and saw the other doctors on staff (three in total). The staff there was ALWAYS friendly, courteous and professional with us. Their treatment of our dog mirrored our own, so much that within a few months of us switching vets he would get excited to see them whenever we visited....think about that for a minute; a dog was happy to go to the vet? Yeah, it shocked us too. But it was telling of the type of care he received there and the love/patience they showed him. Fast-forward to a few months ago. Our dog was facing a life-threatening condition that had sprung up very unexpectedly, we rushed him to an ER facility in another area of Fairfax where we were told he would not survive the day. We waited for HMAC to open, quickly grabbed our dog a rushed over there. If he was going to pass away then we wanted the best care for him and we wanted him to be with family. Needless to say, the staff here gave our little guy much of the same diagnoses that we received at the ER facility but told us that they were going to do everything they could to save him. And that they did. He lived for another nine precious days after his diagnoses, he received the absolute best care he could have during that time and towards the end even started to make a rebound, but the damage to his organs were just too serve and so we had to say goodbye. It was that "saying goodbye" that moved us...They grieved with my wife and I like it was one of their own, the entire staff did. They showed us compassion, love and concerned the likes of which neither one of us had seen from any kind of medical staff (animal or human). It was an experience hard to put into words and I think only a pet parent whos has lost their companion can relate to. The staff there made us feel like family, and we felt better knowing that our dogs last week or so was spent with people who loved him and cared about him as much as we do. We will always consider this staff as extended family, and will be returning back there (and there only) one day when we get our next dog.

My family has been taking our cat and two dogs to Herndon Animal Medical Center for 15 years. The doctors and front desk staff are always friendly and timely. This office goes above and beyond to take care of your pets. Recently my old kitty suddenly died of a brain tumor. We had seen the vet earlier in the day and she diagnosed that our kitty likely had a brain tumor. She gave us her card and told us we could call her in the event of the dreaded midnight emergency...which of course occurred around 10pm later that night. She drove 30 minutes to our house to put our kitty to sleep. We cannot express how grateful we are for the compassion shown by this office. Losing an animal is always a mess without a late night trip to the emergency animal hospital....a tragic experience in itself. As for the earlier comment about this office "ripping them off". The food the doctor was prescribing was likely a PRESCRIPTION dog or cat food. This means you cannot purchase the food at other locations for cheaper. They are all expensive and about the same price anywhere. Also, when the doctor diagnosed our cat with a brain tumor she could have insisted on invasive blood tests and x-rays to verify, but instead she acknowledged our kitty was old and beyond treatment and held off. We discovered that her diagnoses was correct later that night when other symptoms surfaced. Overall she made a painful and expensive ordeal much less painful and expensive.

Our cats past and present have been patients at this practice for a total of nearly 30 years. Our two cats Newt and Ripley lived 22 and 18 years respectively and even tested positive for feline leukemia when we found them as tiny kittens. The doctors, techs, and staff have never once let us down in both simple and complicated situations, emergencies and non. My next pair of tiny kittens who are now 7-years-old, and a third kitten who showed up this past winter are patients here now. We have loved every veterinarian weve seen at Herndon Animal Medical Center. One of my cats is actually in love with Dr. Giaimuccio. He demands that she hold him in her arms and hug him! I highly recommend this place. The prices are competitive for this area (yes, pricey, but we live in Northern Virginia). We miss Dr. Barry and hope she is having a wonderful retirement.

A vet like many others. They were able to take care of everything my cat needed very quickly. I was early for the appointment but as soon as I finished the paperwork, they took us into the exam room. The doctor was very talkative but gave me more information rather than too little. He didnt try to sell us on any treatments in particular and just gave very objective assessments about the different conditions that brought us in. Pricing was about what I expected although this is the first animal Ive been financially responsible for so I have a feeling this was on the expensive end. However when it came to doing some additional testing later, they saved us money by making sure we did the focus tests rather than the general tests again. On a side note, parking sucked but thats not uncommon here in Herndon.

Dr. Janna Giaimuccio is absolutely hands down the most fantastic vet and I would highly recommend her for your animals if you care a lot about them. Its very obvious she cares for the well being of her furry patients and their parents. She has helped guide me to finding the best treatment for both of my dogs who needed proper care. She also is so patient and willing to answer any questions you have and she takes the time to help you understand what your pet is going through. Shes incredible. No doubt about it! And shes on top of her game. I highly recommend her to be the vet of your pets too!!! :)

After Dr. Barry sold the practice, the place went to hell in a handbasket. I had been taking my dogs here for almost 20 years. I will take them no more. One of the "vets" actually told me that my protective Great Dane was aggressive and should be put down. Fortunately, one of the vet techs who had been there a while and who knew me gave me the names of some trainers. I took my dog there and was told that he is, indeed, protective and that the "vet" never should have told me to put him down. If I could have rated this with no stars, I would have gladly done so.
