Ive been taking pets to Huron Animal Hospital my entire life (Ill be 39 in June 2014) and my parents were taking them there before that. I have (up until the last year or so) had only positive things to say about Huron. Unfortunately, over the last few years, thats no longer the case. To see a vet at Huron you make an appointment, which you would think would be a good thing; however, my last four or five "appointments" Ive waited anywhere from 20 - 45 minutes (past my appointment time) before Ive seen a vet. Now, I understand that if there is an emergency that Ill have to wait and Im fine with that, Id want the same thing for my pet. However, with an appointment, and barring no true emergency, I should be seen at or very close to my appointment time (+/- 10 minutes). I find it VERY hard to believe (and my parents have said the same thing) that theres an emergency that causes such a long wait each time I/we have gone in. Now, Huron also offers "Walk-In" appointments. One vet is, usually, dedicated to appointments and another for walk-ins. Ive needed to get my dog(s) in sometimes when there are no appointments available. The last two times have been very unpleasant experiences. The most recent time I was there, I was the ONLY person in the lobby, someone having just gone back for a scheduled appointment. I sat in the lobby with my dog Max and after awhile I started asking, "When will I get back to see the vet?" and I was told by the reception staff that it would be "just another few minutes" (which they were able to answer without checking with someone in the back). Sixty-five minutes later (and still NO ONE in front of me for a walk-in) I got back to see the doc. The time before that, there was one person in front of me and I waited almost 1.5 hours. Youre probably thinking the person in front of me had some sort of emergency. Well, about 20 minutes after they went back, they came out, paid, and left with their dog. Again, I waited for more than an hour past when they left. I thought that, perhaps, the walk-in doc was helping clear appointments, but that wasnt the case. I do like many of the vets at Huron, especially Dr. Heller and Dr. Grossinger along with some of the others. The reception staff is, mostly, friendly and helpful (though that has changed a lot recently too). I feel like Im being overcharged at Huron, especially compared to friends who have taken their dogs to other vets for shots (among other things) and paid anywhere from $10 - $15 less each time and not had to wait unreasonable amounts of time. I hate the thought of leaving Huron, especially given that its the only vet I have EVER taken my dogs to. However, its time for a change to someplace that is more focused on customer service and that can give my dogs the same level of care (or better) while not overcharging even if it means I have to drive farther from my house.

Back on 4/6, my Bassett of 9 years, life would come to an end due to age and tumors, I didnt want anymore suffering for her. I initially took her to Allbrick off Zuni and 84th on 4/5 and they DENIED to assist on putting my dog to sleep because of a very first and only time of writing a negative review 6 years before (unbelievable experience when youre already super emotionally about putting your pet down), I thought surely after 6 years things would be different. Anyway, I remember good friends of ours told us about Huron animal hospital. I was absolutely impressed by this facility, I called, they said bring her in the next morning with no hesitation, very clean and pet friendly, awesome towards our emotional state, really compassionate towards us and our baby girl, we spent time with her in a comfortable room, we were given options of staying or going, cremation price was $10 more than the previous place (which was well worth it), local, all people involved were the best (reception, the assistant, the Dr), and in the end when it was all over and we got our baby back home, we received a condolence card (which made me cry) from the hospital signed by all the staff. I will not forget the experience and will hip there again. Thank you Huron Animal Hispital!

I have been taking my elderly cat to Huron Animal Hospital for a few years now. We used to visit Dr. Fryberg (who was wonderful, but no longer there) and we now see Dr. Welling. Dr. Welling is kind, compassionate and she truly cares about your pet’s well-being. She has always followed-up with me in a timely manner and advised me with any questions I may have about my cat’s health. All the vet techs I’ve talked with have also been wonderful. I see a lot of complaints about the girls who work at the front desk and I’ve talked to some really nice receptionists as well as some not so nice ones. But the interaction you have with the front desk staff is pretty limited to setting appoints and checking in or out. I think what really matters is the staff members that are handling your pet in the back and I’ve only had great experiences with the veterinarians and the vet techs. I would definitely recommend Dr. Welling to anyone looking for an intelligent and caring veterinarian.

We just put our 16 year border collie Shadow down to rest today. Huron Animal Hospital has seen her since her first appointment up until now. Ive read all the reviews here, Ive always thought about going somewhere else, but I have to say we have always had wonderful service. When I called today to say we had to make the decision to put our old girl to rest, the receptionist was so understanding and said to bring her in and everything will be taken care of. We checked in, they brought us back right away, we got to spend as much time with our baby as we needed. The doctor and nurse were great, loving, and took great care of her. When it was finally time, we were able to spend as much time to stay with her during the injection and after to say our final goodbye. The nurse even gave us a big hug, and I noticed there was a candle lit in the lobby with a sign stating a loved one is being euthanized. Thank you so much, so glad I didnt listen to the bad reviews.

Im highly disappointed with this veterinary clinic. I took my 12 year old dachshund to get put down, because he was in so much pain he could barely hold on. I had said that if I kept him alive any longer I would be a jerk. Dr. Grossinger said that professionally she shouldnt say anything, but she agreed. During the last moment I had with my dog, she gave off a very unfriendly, impatient "I want to go home its the end of my shift" vibe. She was not sympathetic by any means whatsoever. She got frustrated when I pulled him back and cried and held onto him tightly. She said "Its killing me" as if he was talking to me. Any owner with a pet they consider their baby would want to have their vet be kind, patient and loving, but this woman was completely the opposite. There was no heart at all. I will never take another animal to this establishment again, I do not want somebody without a heart taking care of my pets.
