After my familys experience, I have a difficult time believing ANY positive reviews are independent and authentic. But of course, that is just me :) I know this review is lengthy, but it is really simple and easy to follow. My boyfriend needed to have all of his teeth extracted for dentures. We were told by the office manager that we could pay in portions of a thousand dollars (so about 3 payments of $1,000) in order to have the teeth extracted as we could afford it. We discussed this for a long time, over the phone and in person, with the office manager. We were even told this was better as it would give the gums time to heal between extractions. We gave Dr Abbot $1,000 and asked her to do what she could with that first amount. She agreed to work within that limit, but our bill came to almost twice that. We were told changes in courses of care were not uncommon and needed to be made. So although we never agreed to these extra procedures that lead to extra charges, we owed for them. I wanted to work something out. I called Dr Abbots office every single month and never once got a call back. When I called the office, I was told there was staff turnover and the new girl didnt know what I was talking about. I asked the new girl to discuss our options with Dr Abbot. I never heard back from the office, but my boyfriend did get up being sued by Dr Abbot for what he owed, and this hit as we were desperately trying to figure out what was going on in the office, if the amount was correct, and what our options were. This has been a nightmare. Why would anyone chose this office? I would assume this was just a communication problem or the result of an unorganized office, but after reading other reviews of Dr Abbot on rateadentist dot com, I recognized a trend. I agree with another reviewer, ""I would not recommend this practice to my worst enemy. They are more interested in your money than your health". Well said and unfortunately accurate. Another reviewer from the same site said " Pretty pricey and when I questioned the bill, there were numerous issues. Products being used and not informing me - especially when the product is usually NOT covered under insurance." This is similar to the problem we encountered. We contacted the BBB, for what is is worth. This is the second negative review I have to write for this office. The first came before any of this happened, when Dr. Cohn (a real Cohn-man in my opinion) refused to fill a very small cavity for me because he wanted $3000 to do enamel work first. This place is just the absolute worst all around. I cant suggest enough that people run for the hills and away from this disaster!

I am so incredibly grateful to those at Midlothian Dental Arts for giving me back a smile I can be proud of and confidence that could only be achieved with the intricate and beautiful art of their incredible talents. From the moment of my first visit where I learned they wanted to help me, I was in tears from their grandest gestures of kindness. I was overcome by each person that was somehow just as compassionate, gentle, reassuring and purely joyous in demeanor and upright in character as the next. The welcomed me in as family, and as the hold each other in such kind standards, it is easy to be drawn in to that contagious happiness and sweet camaraderie along with the sheer magnitude of natural ability to put one at ease at the epitome of comfort while taking care of each and every dental need. They nothing unattended while addressing issues with my mouth that most would dismiss while trying to hurry me out of their office. I was amazed to find that the competency and grace of their profession was unlike any Ive ever come across or heard word of by others in visits to various offices proclaimed to be the best over the years. They successfully quelled fears and replaced nervousness built through years of bad experiences in dental offices within minutes of settling down into that dental chair that used to be a symbol of trepidation for me. Every time I walk into that office I find Im not only at ease and instantly drawn into the gentle joy of those in the office., but I also leave those doors with a unique positive energy and hopeful feeling that helps me overcome my own mountains and make my own world a positive and beautiful place to be. Ive never seen anyone take such care in creating anything as when Dr Shuck sat beside me creating this masterpiece like it was going to be going in his own mouth. Dr Abbott came in herself to see how I was throughout and how the progress was going. It was wonderful to see that the entire dentist staff on a whole seemed to take a personal interest in my progress and happiness just as they appeared to be with all the other patients during my visits. They concentrated on giving me the best experience possible and providing the most magnificent work that their hands could create. I am so grateful to you all. You will never see me go elsewhere. I am trying to get my entire family over their to experience such greatness. You guys rock!!!

Worst experience ever. I went to see Dr. Cohn to have a cavity filled and a dental cleaning. Only an exam (a very expensive exam) was done. Dr Cohn told me he wanted about $3,000 to do enamel work on my teeth before he would fill the ONE cavity I scheduled to be repaired. My teeth are in good shape and I just wanted a cavity filled. I also know someone who had a worse experience than I did. I recommend steering clear. Going to the dentist is already unpleasant and there are better dental offices nearby. I think "necessitate changes in an anticipated treatment plan" is their way of saying they want to sell you on a $3,000 procedure instead of a $300 one. It was my experience. I feel like it is unethical. No other offices have given me this grief. I suggest people considering a visit to Midlothian Dental Arts read some reviews from people who have had strikingly similar to mine.

Best dental experience Ive ever had!!!! The staff was very friendly, detail oriented and knowledgeble. Dr. Abbot was amazing. I spent two hours in this office getting examined and talking. She and her staff took their time talking to me, answering my questions and informing me of my options when it comes to my dental care and they even showed me videos of how each option works. Ive never in my years had a dentist ask me questions about how I feel about my smile etc. It was so wonderful, I can go on and on, but I feel like the whole staff cared about me, a perfect stranger. I will have a long lasting relationship with them and Im excited to get started on a better road to a healthier smile!

Very disappointed in this practice to say the least. My family has been going to them for a while and we recently had a lot of work done. Pretty pricey and when I questioned the bill, there were numerous issues. Products being used and not informing me - especially when the product is usually NOT covered under insurance. A filling had to be redone because it was done poorly to begin with and still done porely the second time around AND they tried to charge me again. Then credits that were promised because of some of these mentioned issues were never done. Poor accounting practices and poor communication between doctor and billing is what I attribute it all to.
