Hi my name is Nhan, and my background is working in the operating room as a perfusionist with a master degree in cardiovascular science. I went in to Carilion Hospita for my broken talus bone on 10/29/2013 and get it operated on 10/30/2013. (When I broke it I laughed and tolerated the pain for 9 hrs with out any medicine.) After that I stay in the recovery room for 3 days. The 2nd days when I was there and able to stand up with assistance to go to the rest room. I went and gone back to my bed ASAP and talking to the 2 nursing students. All a sudden I start feeling the blood pounding pressing on the fresh suture site on my ankle that cause by standing up and slowly the pain get worse and worse. I told the students to get the nurse who is watching over me to get my painkiller. The nurse came in few mins after, and told me why so emergent, and why am I being a hardheaded and wait till the pain so unbearable. I told her please get my drug. She walked away. I buzzed , cried and screamed, so the closed they closed the door. I buzzed again and again and the first few time they pick up and told me she is working on it. I cried and by then I kicked myself up all the way on top of the bed and my drape was open, the (female) nursing students came in trying to calm me down. I am all exposed but in too much pain to even care and I cant stop from crying. I plead them to get my painkiller, and they just look at me helplessly so they left and closed the door again. About 15-20 mins past by since I have asked for my painkiller the nurse came back in and gave it to me and gave me a lecture on how I shouldnt have being so hardheaded and wait, crying, and kicking because I dont know when to ask for my pain meds when I start feeling the pain. I was too upset and cried too much to care other then I just have my meds and it starting to work. As a patient I have my right to access to the pain meds that I need and not to suffer as much as I did for so long. After a year now and I am still reflecting back on to this and I cant believe it happen to me. I am so embarrass and hurt. The worst thin is that she is an instructor for the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and teaching this. I hope this lesson wouldnt pass on and this wouldnt happen to you or your love ones.

The worst experience ever! Went to ER after an infection and fever within hours of outpatient surgery. Told me it was at least a 5-7 hour wait. I had a 103.7 fever, bad topical skin infection (which was embarrassing enough) and couldnt stand at all. Waited 2 hours and couldnt take the pain anymore so I went to Velocity Care, at that was joke also. Ended up not finding out anything there and gave up. I have spent over $20,000 and still have not one answer, but the same ole question always pops up "wheres our payment". I have filled complaint after complaint for them to look into with a letter telling me that they followed procedure. They dont care at all. My PCP refused to see me twice when I was infected and had a fever (separate occasions, same issues), and his reasoning was "I cant do anything for you" but you sure did charge me like you did something for me. You ask me whats wrong, I tell you, you check nothing but the computer your sitting at, and prescribe me some random medicine to keep money in the Pharmacy pocket as well as yours. This has got to stop and hopefully after I take legal action it will. I get nothing but shoo you in and fly you out service and thats not right. I have to keep telling myself "its just a business of supply and demand, if were not sick theres no demand for medicine and ridiculous hospital bills", but we all have insurance now (well mostly everyone) with the un-affordable care act. More people are taking advantage of something they didnt have before and the hospitals know this so they gouge us. I always wondered why there is a sign in the ER at Carillon in 16 different locations that states verbal abuse will not be tolerated and you will be removed , because God forbid you complain after waiting 3-7 hours, sick as a dog. We have no right to be upset over this? yes we do and they know its a horrible place or 16 of those signs would not be posted in the waiting room. that tells me that this is a HUGE problem and has obviously happened before. This will end soon. I have faith.

On 3/21/2016 our service was HORIBLE WOW I have never ever ever seen such a thing my husband was in a car accident and came in with his head and lip cut open his lip was like hanging off his face at 3:15 when he arrived he was put in a room immediately then he wanted pain meds since his lip was hanging off and had a cut on the back of his head he still didnt get any nor had been seen 5 comes around I had to call my mother to come get my 4 month since when I asked how long it would be no one knew. No one checked on us nor kept us update. My mom arrived and staid til 8 when finally a trauma doctor came in and stated he might need staples in the back of his head and stiches on his lip since his heart rate was not steady they might keep him ,I asked how long would it be til they do that he said he could do the staples now looked at it and said never mind he doesnt need them and disappeared. The shifts changed and still nothing a new nurse Leanna came in at 7 and said she would be taking over she stated that it was taking so long because we have to wait for a trauma doctor so I guess waiting from 3:25 til 8 means they didnt have a doctor. Mary ann came in she was the only who seemed to care how were or actually the only one that asked or cared for anyones care . Then I go out to the nurse station ask them are they going to sow his lip or glue the back of his head because the other doctor left and I guess he didnt leave transition of care. The next thing I know a student walks in to sow his lip so you mean we had a doctor and we were waitig on a student to clock in ? She came in didnt even say she was a student and when I said I wanted a doctor she stomped out like a four year old finally he was sowed up and then they said we could go I was like the last doctor said he had to have xrays and ct to make sure he was ok because his heart was unstable she said well it look stable now so idk I guess you can go home very careless people no coordination of care Never again Lewis Gale would have been worth the ride.
