I have had multiple negative experiences here. Most recently, I experienced an anterior dislocation on a newly revised hip replacement. After I woke from sedation, an xray revealed that the closed reduction had not kept the hip in place. Their orthopedic surgeon opted to have an ambulance transport me to Rochester, where my ortho is located. When I arrived it was immediately asked of me, by a 5th year resident, "Who put your leg in a brace?" Apparently, this device is the correct way to hold in posterior dislocations, not anterior. This approach not being correct for the given type of dislocation was later repeated by my surgeon. I was also given coffee with creamer by the nursing staff, which made the anesthesiologist there irate. In fact, I was given a refreshed cup just before my transport arrived, and was loaded into the ambulance with it. Having creamer in my stomach put me at risk for aspirating vomit, if sedated. An experience 2 months ago was equally disturbing. I was having cycles of repeated partial dislocations of my original hardware, which would go on for minutes to hours. It was so painful it caused me to shake. Instead of offering effective pain control meds, I revieved an injection of an NSAID. Instead of taking xrays, I was discharged. I made it as far as the receptionist desk, before a new cycle started up. I was unable to bear weight on the affected side, so was left to try and walk it out by holding on to the reception desk, so as to not fall. The partial dislocations emitted a loud snapping sound, which was heard by multiple staff. Rather than actually doing something to help me, I was asked by a male nurse if I wanted to be wheeled to my car. I replied with an "I cant even use my leg properly enough to walk. And you think Im going to get behind the wheel of my car? Im fine right here." He proceeded to stand watch over me, but not in a concerned manner. His stance and body language very much made it clear he wanted me to leave. The only threats posed here were on their part: threat to my personal safety, threat to my physical well being, and threat to anyone who I would have encountered if I were to attempt driving. Two weeks later, thanks to an appropriate response by the staff at the Red Wing Mayo ER, I was back in Rochester, undergoing a revision. My cup liner had worn so much from the partial dislocations that a piece had actually broken off. This then allowed the titanium ball at the top of my femur to get jammed up into the upper most interior corner of the cup space (impingement). Had the staff here actually generated images of my hip, as they should have, I would have been spared two of the most agonizing weeks of my life. Thankfully it was caught before the impingement gave way to a fractured pelvis and most severe type of dislication.

Dr Serna, the best damn doctor who I have ever had the pleasure of being under the care of. Everyone at this facility treats you with respect and dignity. When the worst happened I was blessed with the most wonderful staff ever. Except for Dr Ashley. She is a horrible awful frigid person. Stay away from Ashley.
