I have worn glasses for 40 years. Recently, I noticed I was not seeing as clearly as I used to, and upon recommendation by a friend, I went to see Dr. John Bonsett-Veal. Dr. John saw me, and after a professional exam, recommended and fitted me with progressive lenses. He was very thorough and told me it would take about two weeks to get used to them. He was right - wearing progressive lenses (I am far sighted, so the lenses progress from correcting my far-sightedness on top to being reading glasses on the bottom) was quite the transition, but after about 10 days, I was so happy that I had made the change. I can finally see clearly! I can now see excellent in all circumstances - driving, reading, working on my laptop - and no longer have to ask my husband to read "the fine print" for me. Dr. John is now my optometrist for life. I am so happy he is close by in Madison! He is extremely professional and competent, and his staff is very organized and friendly.

I was very pleased with my initial visit to Dr. Bonsett-Veal and his staff. I was having issues with my contacts and my previous optometrist simply suggested other brands to try even though the problem persisted. Within the first 10 minutes of my appointment with Dr. Bonsett-Veal, he identified that I had GPC and recommended I wear one a day contacts to prevent bacteria build up. Ive been using the contacts for almost 3 months now and I havent had a problem since! Since my first visit, I have gotten two new pairs of glasses and learned more about eye care and health than I have ever have before. You really get a personal experience from the doctor and his staff, who always provide an extremely helpful, friendly, and positive service.

I stopped by before I had an appointment to check out the frame selection. Last year when I got my eyes checked at a place on State St, I couldnt find frames I liked so I settled for more contacts. Im glad I did stop in: the lady who does fittings helped me find three pairs I really liked, and I was able to set up an appointment for later that afternoon. Dr. Bonsett-Veal is a really nice guy and very amusing. He was very patient as I sometimes like to go back and forth between the lenses during the exam. Between the help finding frames I absolutely love and the doctor himself, it was a great experience. Ill be coming back next year!

I cannot recommend Dr. Bonsett-Veal and his team enough! His clinic is beautiful and clean, he and his staff are knowledgeable and friendly and his equipment is state of the art. When I had to have a foreign body removed from my cornea this week, he fit me in at the last minute (thankfully the clinic is open until 7:30pm on Wednesdays!) and he made me feel comfortable, calm and walked me through the entire process step by step. I couldnt ask for a more down-to-earth doctor and I am so thankful that I am a patient!

Dr. John was very knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and professional during my first visit to his practice. - - - I wear contacts, though have been without for several months. Instead of simply renewing my prescription with the previous brand I had been prescribed, Dr. Bonsett-Veal had me sample several different brands and observed how they fit on my cornea. We were then able to find the best contacts for my eyes based on real scientific process. I will definitely be visiting Dr. John for my next eye exam.

The doctor is very unprofessional when I came in, suspecting an eye infection. He did not explain my conditions to me before I pressed him. He also refused to tell me the potential causes and prognosis of my eyes, implying that my conditions were very serious. I went to a different optometrist the next week and he told me my eyes were healthy and explained carefully the medical terms Bonsett-Veal marked down on my record. I am never going back to Bonsett-Veals clinic again.

Had a great experience. The staff was very professional and the vision exam was very thorough, possibly the most thorough eye exam Ive ever had. I was offered a retinal exam with a scan instead of pupillary dilation which was helpful because I had to study afterwards. Dr. Bonsett-Veal was friendly and made sure I was satisfied with my contact lens fitting. Hes a stickler for making sure everything is taken care of and I think that is important in a medical professional!

What a wonderful eye doc! I arrived in Madison with a pair of glasses that another optometrist in my hometown had made, but which didnt fit correctly. Dr. Bonsett saw the problem right away. Even though Id arrived 5 minutes after theyd closed for the day, he welcomed me in and fixed the problems. I tried to pay him for this great service, but he declined my offer. A really nice guy, caring, and competent. I cant recommend him to others highly enough.
