I went there for an eye exam, and the Dr. that I had seen tried to keep changing my prescription (which has been the same for the past 5 years) to a prescription that was almost 1 point less that what I had been wearing for the past 5 years, and wanted me to "try" it but didnt have that particular prescription of contacts in house and had to special order it out so that my "contact lens fitting/trial" would be complete before they would let me order more contact lenses? When they got the trial pair in, they did not fit right and I could hardly see out of the lenses? I have been wearing contacts since I was 14 years old, and know that the pair that I have been wearing for the past 5 years fit just fine!!! I was totally given the run around, when all I wanted to do was have my yearly eye appointment so I could order more contact lenses. I then went back to see if I could get a nice looking pair of glasses because my dog had chewed mine up, and the prescription that they have on file for "eye glasses" is 1 point lower that what my contact prescription is, just like what the doctor had tried to put me in for contact lenses that didnt work. When I asked about it, the guy at the counter said "your eye glass prescription is going to be a little bit different than your contact lens prescription" One whole point different? right? Also the lady that works the front counter, to help you pick out glasses, does not smile at all or have any customer service skills at all. I had a horrible experience and do not plan on every going back there!

I thought I was doomed to never see again until I came to these folks. I did what most do and tried to cut corners by ordering online - big mistake - and tried every run of the mill glasses spot. My prescription was always off and the headaches kept getting worse::: Until I came to Optix. I could not be happier with my new glasses. That changed when I got my new puppy. She was able to find my specs one morning while I was blindly trying to make coffee and, well, destroyed them. This was devastating at first because they were perfect. I brought them back to Optix while wearing my awful spare set and started to pick out some new frames. It had earlier crossed my mind to try and fix them like I do with most everything of mine that breaks - but it just seemed impossible to me. The frames were bent and twisted, the hinges blown out and lenses gone. (Thankfully not eaten) But I dont know glasses. These folks do. AND were open to trying. So for the price of some new lenses (cant buff out teeth marks) some small titanium parts and some elbow grease my frames were totally fixed! Super Impressed with their work. Stop wasting your money elsewhere and give these kind people your money. They deserve it.

My mother always said "if you dont have anything good to say, then say nothing at all." I agree but also believe that when I have a good experience and want others to have the same, I should scream it from the rooftops. Let me preface my comments by saying that Ive worn glasses my whole life (40+ years, YIKES!) and have lived in several major cities on both east and west coasts. Finding a great (not just good) optometrist is always at the top of my list. I re-located from Boston for work about five years ago and would see my old optometrist when Id make trips back home. Seems logical considering appointments took place every two-years. That is, until I needed to see someone right away. Enter Dr. McGinley and the staff at Optix. Professional, attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable come to mind. All my needs were taken care of and did I mention the frames? They offer higher-end, better quality frames than the average. You get what you pay for and as far as Im concerned, the more you pay dictates how youll care for your glasses. If you want a great optometrist, quality eyewear and a good experience, Optix is the place for you!

Would absolutely recommend Optix on Downer to everyone! I recently had a pair of lenses made for my Lindberg frames at a local optical store near my home, but they just could not adjust them properly. Because Optix on Downer carries Lindberg frames, we decided to bring them in for adjustment. A young woman by the name of Larissa waited on us. In spite of the fact that we hadnt purchased the glasses from Optix, she gladly offered to adjust and check them ... which she did to perfection. I offered to pay for her time, but she refused and asked instead if I would like to make a donation to their autism fund.I gave her all the cash I had on me, which was only five dollars, but Id gladly have dropped a twenty in their fund if Id had it on me. Ill catch her next time around because we will absolutely be repeat customers. Both ladies in the store were very courteous and professional and their store is very cool and upbeat. If youre shopping for glasses, make sure to stop at Optix on Downer. Youll be glad you did. Paula Erickson Bickelhaupt

Green must not be a favorite color for Optix. Previous customer, moved away, stopped in to buy a pair of sunglasses and was told they dont carry the brand anymore but they would check to see if they had a pair still in stock. Owner assured me someone would promptly help when available. Waited a bit, watched others come in after me and get service right away. They could have taken some money from me today but chose not to. Your loss, not mine. Wanted to support a local business in my old hometown. Ill purchase elsewhere going forward. I guess I dont visually qualify well.

The staff at Optix on Downer is extremely friendly, dedicated, and competent. I was not previously a customer of Optix when I called today with a favor. One of my students had been bullied and his glasses were stepped on; I called around to local places to see if someone could fix them. Without hesitation, the ladies from Optix went above and beyond for someone that might not have ever came back. Because of this positive and heartwarming experience, I will look to Optix for my future eye care needs. Additionally, I would highly recommend working with this phenomenal staff!

Walked in today to purchase frames for something I had lost in New York City. They were able to get the same frame that I had bought in New York ordered and promise a 1 week turnaround on my bifocals!!! Are you kidding me.... I think I found my new spot and will tell everyone about this little gem of an optical shop. When you stop by ask for Kelly!

Do not use unless all you want are trendy, expensive glasses! Individual who checked my eyes never identified herself, plus told me I needed to take supplements which are contraindicated with my medical condition (which she was aware of). If you want unique frames, they have them, but not much else.
