This review will also be posted to Yelp, with a follow up call to management- My mother was concerned about her cats drooling, so she called Animal Kind to schedule a dental appointment and check-up. Scheduling and the appointment went well, and the in person staff was kind and helpful. But the customer service follow up was incredibly unprofessional. My mother called Animal Kind the following business day per staff instruction, to find out about her cats test results. She was met with disdain and obstructive unhelpfuness. Her command of English is accented but not unintelligible as she has lived in NY over thirty years. Whomever she spoke to on the phone didnt make the effort to find the cats records, beyond asking my mother for the phone number on file, which doesnt match my mothers contact number. I can chalk that up to language miscommunication but the receptionist didnt try any follow up questions to track down the record, such as to ask for my mothers name, which would presumably be on file as a PAYING client, or the cats name, or address on file, etc., ANY kind of effort to track down and give the results to a person who paid for services already rendered. My mother later related to me of the aggressive rude tone of the receptionist. Offhand, much later, I asked my mother how was her cat doing. She said kitty was fine but she didnt know why there were no results for her cat. So I called today, near noon, and asked the receptionist whether there was any results for kitty, that there was some confusion with my mom. Perhaps I reached the same receptionist, she was curt, poised to hangup as soon as the phone number I provided didnt match what was on file, so I tried providing other identifying information, (it turns out the phone number on file was a botched version of my mothers home number), and the receptionist replied in a surly defensive tone that someone has tried to reach my mother but that the number didnt work. I understand that it is not possible to reach a customer with a wrong phone number on file (I think mom must have orated it to the staff) but Im not sure that the venom with which I was returned with was necessary when I was merely trying to followup with what exactly happened with the cats results, and to acquire the cats results. So I asked if they had my mothers name on file. Lo, and behold it WAS. Now what was so hard about that? It took perhaps a minute of conversation of trying to keep her on the phone. Our familys cats test results are fine by the way. I do hold my mom accountable about following up, as I hold Animal Kind responsible for taking care of our cats health, and following up with paying customers. Were lucky kitty was fine in the end. In no way will we return to Animal Kind. In our case there wasnt animal Kind, nor people kind. Or perhaps, people with undesirable accents.

As cat "foster parents"- with 6 - 11 felines of all ages in the household at any time - we have to be regulars of our local vets. The Animal Kind doctors have never disappointed us. Whether its taking a kitten in for the first round of shots, or the heartbreaking situation of having to end the life of a terminally ill cat - the Animal Kind vets have been nothing but professional and empathetic. That being said - the majority of their staff are idiots. Misquoting fees over the phone - its always higher when you get there, overbooking appointments so theres ALWAYS a wait, forgetting youre in a room waiting for news - weve been in the basement for almost an hour because they forgot we were there with a dead cat...this is normal. Maybe its better for the dog owners! Why we rarely visit them anymore: the prices. Of course quality veterinary should not be cheap, but even the basics are - for us - too much now. The first round of shots for one kitten - 5 minutes of a vets time - was $134 the last time we visited. The same service is being offered during the week-ends at our local "national pet supply" for $41. - and theres less of a wait! What I cant forgive them for: arrangements had to be made so a desperately ill and suffering cat could be euthanized. The phone person stressed the price: $169. We arrive - wait as usual - and are then taken to a downstairs room. While waiting with the sick cat, a staff member came in to arrange payment - $220. What?? I told her what I had been told - not arguing, just saying - and was given a shovel full of attitude. So we paid the $220 - what else could we do in that circumstance? But again - the actual doctor was wonderful and kind. Really, even though the situation sounds bent - you couldnt find a more patient and considerate vet. We even received a hand-written note from him a few days later. Perhaps its policy - but it was a nice gesture. Im guessing they are pricing themselves for the neighborhood - the rents in Park Slope are rather high and their neighbors can afford the bills. I just wish the vets would take time out from being, well..."awesome", and hire a better staff. In the meantime, those of us who cant afford their prices will visit the ASPCA van and Petco vaccination clinics.

Despite the advice of other Park Slope pet owners not to go to Animal Kind we did not listen. The only service this practice can handle are yearly shots and not much more. They misdiagnosed my dogs failing kidneys (after taking blood & urine tests and x-rays) as a ruptured disk(!?!). They ignored the blood in his urine ("thats nothing") and after multiple visits kept sending him home despite his worsening condition for two weeks. If your pet requires anything outside of routine shots stay away from Animal Kind at all costs. Im not sure about the credentials of the staff whether they are recent graduates or just incompetent. If you want a vet that will barely treat the symptoms, not follow up, remove several of your dogs teeth at each cleaning, load your pet with useless meds, and charge you top dollar for no results (or results that could cost you your pets life) then Animal Kind would be the place to go. If you truly love your pet please consider going to reputable facility but if you do go here make sure to get another opinion as your pet is a member of your family not just a revenue stream for Animal Kind and their uneducated guesses. Now we have to go with an emergency operation and possible euthanasia at a facility that fully diagnosed (and properly) him in less than 48 hours. Thank you Animal Kind, your incompetence is about to cost my dogs life.

The first time I brought my puppy here I had a female doctor, she had absolutely no bedside manners and the people at the front desk were rude. When I asked the doctor a few questions she did not give adequate answers, she talked her way around my questions and gave explanations to things I did not ask about. She also was horrible at doing the scrape test and left my puppy a scar. Given this is my first dog Im sure Im a little sensitive to him being in pain, but after doing some research I found that she did it incorrectly. My second visit was not nearly as horrifying of an experience, they were actually nice but I will say that they really overcharge, and going by how long I was there for and the amount they charged for the visit on top of the shot my puppy got; they charge $50 for 5 minutes of their time. I highly recommend not coming here and instead going to the vet at Petsmart, they have a much better deal and Ive been told they are great on top of it. Ive already spent $400 on my puppy here when he hasnt gotten all of his shots and you can pay half as much at Petsmart for a whole years worth of medical attention.
