My name is Holly and I have been a proud client at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital for five years. In fact, one of the reasons I moved from Mercer County to Monmouth County in November 2006 was so that I could be close to this extraordinary veterinary hospital. I have lived with cats for 50 years. I am also a dean, professor, and a scientist who has lived in many states and in many countries. I have used the services of many veterinarians in those same places over the years so my statements here are based on a broad range of experiences. The doctors and the staff at Oakhurst are, without doubt, the finest professionals I have ever encountered. Not only do the doctors and staff possess the most current, empirically-anchored training, they also genuinely care for their clients. They continue to study, learn, and research so that they can apply the highest level of care to their patients. They also provide a great deal of pro bono work for local shelters and raise funds for those shelters as well. Furthermore, the level of cleanliness at Oakhurst is without parallel. Animals, like humans, should be treated in sanitized conditions. I have been in many veterinary clinics where the cleanliness level was akin to a shack in the third world. To give you an idea about how extraordinary Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital is, I will relate the following story. Two years ago, two of my older cats suddenly became very, very ill. I brought them to Oakhurst on an emergency basis shortly before Christmas. The doctors and the staff worked tirelessly to figure out why my cats suddenly became so ill. They used their knowledge and their state-of-the art scientific methods to discover the type of parasite my cats had acquired. Had these doctors not been diligent. Had they not been up-to-date with the latest research on feline parasites and parasitic disease, my cats would have died. The doctors and the staff members are responsive, smart, and compassionate. They answer emails, return calls, and do extensive follow-ups. To the people who have written negative reviews about Oakhurst and who have commented about costs, I say this to you. 1.) Animals, like humans, get ill and their treatment (examination by doctors and medications) costs money; 2.) Veterinarians are professionals and business owners. They have to cover their costs just like human medical doctors. All you have to do is do a quick Google search to see the prices of animal medications (also, I have been to other veterinary clinics that have charged far higher prices for services and medications while providing mediocre services in filthy facilities); 3.) Many breeds of animals are prone to a variety of problems (this is why adopting a mutt from a shelter makes sense....mutts arent inbred and therefore not prone to afflictions that plague pure-breeds) which is why well-trained veterinarians will advise you to run certain tests...so that you can nip a problem in the bud before it becomes a huge and expensive problem. Current knowledge, continuous education, commitment to excellence, compassion....these are just a few of the words and phrases I can use to describe Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital.

This place is WONDERFUL! I have a Mini Lop Rabbit, Thor, who is 10 weeks old. I began to panic when I noticed that his stool was becoming soft. I called over 10 places, locally to try and see if anyone would treat him, on this saturday, and had no luck. On top of it all, I was going to be charged $100-$125, JUST to WALK IN to a vet that would merely make sure he was stable. No one would treat him. In a panic on the phone with a women from Garden State Vet in Tinton Falls, she gave me the phone number for OVH. From the second the women picked up the phone, I felt relief. I explained my situation, and the women on the other end was extreamly compassionate. It was already 3pm, and she was able to make sure they would be able to see Thor that day. When I asked about the fee, She told me that there would be no emegency fee. She was going to put me in as an appointment and with the $25 new patient discount, it would only be $60. I myself was at work, and informed her that my boyfriend would be bringing Thor to their location. Truth is I would have paid anything to make sure he was okay. Upon my boyfriends arrival, I received pictures of the Vet. It was extreamly clean and well kept. My boyfriend even mentioned how nice it was, and how wonderful the staff was from the second he walked in the door. 30minutes until they were going to close up and leave, and not a single huff or puff about it. These people really love what they do. The nurse that weighed him fussed over how cute my bun was. (I know no one needs to know that, it just made me proud.) She was passionate about helping and knowlageable of Thors condition. When DR. Applegate arrived, my boyfriend swore that we have found our forever vet. not only was the Doctor helpful and compassionate, He walked through everything he was doing and why. Gave him a complete check- up and prvided him with a fluid treatment to re-hydrate our bun. He than provieded us with some amazing take home information and tips that would help us keep this problem from happening in the future. He let us know that Thor was a happy and healthy bunny and that comended us for noticing the change so quickly. We prevented a larger problem. The best thing? The whole ordeal cost me $89 with the liquid treatment! I want to personally thank the staff that worked there today. They did everything they could and helped keep it all at a low cost. I couldnt be happier. I would suggest OVH to anybody!!!!

My precious shih tzu Lola is 7 years old. We absolutely know she would not be here with us if it were not for the excellent loving care given to her by Dr. Danielle Rawlins and the rest of the staff at Oakhurst. Right before her second birthday she became deathly ill quite suddenly with IMHA and we rushed her to the hospital. Dr. Rawlins and her colleagues went above and beyond both during their office hours and after to care for Lola and save her life. The entire support staff was always there for us, and continues to echo the loving care and commitment of every doctor there. Besides her medical expertise, Dr. Rawlins gave Lola so much emotional support over the long period she remained in the hospital, which I know contributed to her recovery. I very often found her checking on Lola long after her office hours were over, not only on her treatment and condition, but talking to her lovingly and encouraging her back to health. I am continually amazed by Dr. Rawlins and her commitment to her patients, her sensitivity, and her brilliance in treating anything from the most innocent rash to a life threatening disease. You cannot find the care and compassion that you find at Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital anywhere. I know my Lola is in the very best hands from the moment I walk through the door and am greeted with such warmth, to whatever care her visit will entail on that particular day. No one rushes to unnecessary treatment, and every doctor is at the top of their field. It is what I would want for myself, and I would certainly not accept anything less for a most cherished and loved member of my family. I might also add, that in the first two years of Lolas life while she enjoyed uninterrupted good health, my husband and I brought Lola in for her normal checkups without any suggestion of unnecessary treatments, testing, or medications. She just experienced the loving, warm atmosphere and excellent well care that she continues to have today. I know that the only thing that matters in this hospital is the health and well being of every patient there, both private as well as their shelter pets. Combined with Doctors who stay at the cutting edge of their field, you cannot compete on any level with Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital. I know that every day when I wake up to my healthy, beautiful Lola.
