Absolute worse hospital I have ever encountered. Zero zero zero all the way... I wasnt there for my grandmothers ER visit but I made it shortly after she was admitted. I am a Cardiac/Critical Care/ER nurse with 22 years experience and I cant understand how this facility remains open. Its filthy, there are fire hazards and trip hazards everywhere, all but one of the nursing staff were rude and disgustingly incompetent. One walker for the entire floor. Her roommate brought in a portable heater to keep them warm but its a fire hazard and a trip hazard. My 91 year old grandmother fell and had injury because of their neglect. She sat there for four days collecting money from the insurance before they realized that they cant provide the specialty resources she needs and she has to be transferred. I was so worried to leave her at night. The patient she shared a room with was wonderful and called me one night while they were threatening and bullying my grandmother.... Im hoping that my uncle her son will speak with an attorney about the incompetence and neglect. And to top it off she had to wait hours for nurses to bring her medication, she was dehydrated and it took over 36 hours (when I finally arrive) for the nurse to hang the normal saline bag that was left on a pole from the ER I suppose but never attached to her saline lock (and when she went to start the fluids she was going to use the bag that expired 12 hours prior), 1/2 hour or longer for call bells to be answered, oh and talk about falsifying medical records. The daily hourly charting that hangs off the end of the bed, well some days we didnt see anyone for 12 hours but yet somehow it was signed off hourly. And what about change of shift assessments. NO ONE and I mean NO ONE did a head to toe assessment while my grandmother sat there for four days. If they did they would have caught the skin breakdown on her buttocks. I requested a wound care nurse the day before she left this hell hole but yet no one ever showed up. And the food I cant even explain how it wasnt edible. Who gives a 91 year old with a weight loss of 50 lbs in a few short months a bowl of freaking salt. Thats what it was ... even the individually wrapped roll was stale. Oh and there was a patient in the hall that was in a recliner that had her feet propped with and empty trash can and she was trying to get help to go back to bed. I asked the PCA if I could help her since they were unavailable (although they were available) ... She told me no she is fine. Guess what ten minutes later she had a fall with injury. I overheard that she fell the day prior as well and had a laceration to the scalp. I felt helpless and sad for all the people that didnt have family members like myself there to make sure they were safe because they sure as hell werent being taken care of by staff. 100% complete negligence. I will find out which reporting agencies regulate hospitals in NYC because we live in the USA not a third world country which is what this place reminded me of.....

I went to the ER yesterday with complaints of Lower back pains that was causing lower abdominal pressure and pain, once in the back treatment area, I was assessed by a STUDENT followed by a PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT who all asked the same questions, never physically examined me and left, with no answers for me. After another hour or so a P.A. came to ask me the same questions he had initially, this time focusing on my pain scale change since I’d arrived, at which time he asked that I give a urine sample and he talk more when the results were in, needless to say this was the last I saw of him. After another hour or so the Nurse returned to administer Pain meds, and was told it was to keep me comfortable while we awaited my test results. I patiently waited 2 more hours and asked again had my results come back and was told by the same nurse, that I’d be going home soon, she explain everything in a minute, returned 20 minutes later and asked me to follow her to sign out and that my discharge paper would tell me what was going on, at which time she attempted to hand me some paper that read I was diagnosed w back pain and 2 prescriptions for pain killers, and a referral to a orthopedic specialist, I reminded her of my main concern which was the pressure and pain in my pelvis are, she said I dint need an x-ray or sonogram because there was no indications that I broke anything, I immediately became enraged and asked for a REAL DR. or Attending if the Dr.‘s on staff were RESIDENTS, at which time another women intervened as suggested I wait for her if I wanted to speak to someone, 15 minutes this same lady approached her saying the “DR” who was treating me turned my case over to her when the shift changed and she is in charge of my treatment , and to tell her what I was there for, sending me further into a rage because here you are asking me what I’m here for which she would have known if she’d come and at least introduced herself 1-2 hours ago, upset at the way I was speaking she left the room saying she doesn’t have to deal with me if I’m going to tell her how to do her Job, I signed and left, In my opinion Untreated, Problem Unsolved, I was treated Like a number and spoken to like I was a dummy, worse experience EVER, Complete waste of 7 Hours.

My father was in and out of this hospital for 3 months for breathing issues. I did not know what was wrong with him. He had a few issues so it was hard to determine what actually was the cause . Although his pulmonary doctor was excellent, it was very difficult to reach these doctors or get any clear cut answers from them. In fact his cardiologist who happens to be a good doctor was very arrogant & never returned my calls. Even though I was his health proxy it did not matter. I worked and had to run up to hospital on my lunch breaks & evenings and never really could catch the doctors so I called their offices only to have my calls not returned. It was very frustrating. My father went thru 2 procedures was in ICU & intubated a few times. In rehab twice only to come back to hospital. I never got any clear answers from them. He died after 3 months of this back & forth. I feel that he was put through all these procedures & intubated, etc when they knew there was no hope for him. I did not even know what he died from. I wish they would have just told me straight out and I could have had him die at home surrounded by his family. I live with that guilt everyday because he asked me to not to let him die there. I feel they stole that from him & I to fill their pockets. The nurses and floor staff was amazing. ICU nurses were top notch. In fact, an ICU nurse approached me very professionally one evening and advised that I sign a DNR. It was not until this nurse approached me that I knew that was it. I still wanted confirmation from a doctor but did not get it. I decided to sign the DNR only when I saw he was suffering. The night before my father passed, I spoke with his pulmonary doctor and asked he be placed in Hospice. That never happened. He suffered and I know it could have been avoided had he been placed in hospice sooner. Giving two stars for nurses because I cannot thank them enough for helping my father die with some dignity.
