If I could give no stars for Gary Jean-Baptiste I would. In fact, I would give negative stars if it were possible. To make my point especially clear, I NEVER write reviews. In fact, this may be first review and I am writing it because of how atrociously horrible my experience was. Here is why: This was my first time visiting with Gary Jean-Baptiste as I had just moved to Brooklyn, NY for the first time in April. I had been refereed to Gary by a list of primary care doctors found through my insurance (Oscar). Upon arriving at the office, the offices appeared to be very run down and had the look of something out of the late 70s. There were stains all over the waiting room furniture and the carpet, walls, and ceiling tiles all looked as though they had not been cleaned or updated in decades. I filled out the basic information such as my health background, address, etc. on several forms that were provided to me by the receptionist. Despite the look and feel of the office upon first impression, I kept an open mind. I was called back to the check up offices within 15 minutes. The check up offices were as equally dismal as the entrance way and reception area. I was greeted within several minutes by an individual who claimed to be a student of Garys, but was not in fact Gary himself. Although I cannot thoroughly describe the energy this individual gave off, I can say that it felt very unprofessional, uncomfortable, and as though this person had never performed the job of interviewing a patient before. He pulled out a blank piece of computer paper and began asking me questions about my health history and why I had come into the office. All of these questions were answered in full or in part on the questionnaire that I had been asked to complete upon arrival. Yet, this questionnaire was not in the possession of the interviewing physician. He seemed to slowly guess at what questions to ask, while writing sloppy notes in an un-organized way on the computer paper. After the uncomfortable interview he asked me to take my shirt and pants off and told me to leave the door open while I waited for Gary Jean-Baptiste. So as I am waiting, essentially naked, there are numerous patients passing by looking into my room. I waited an hour and a half to see Gary! Let me repeat that again for the sake of clarity and emphasis...I waited 1.5 hours to see this Doctor. Finally, I poked my head out into the haul and looked at three individuals sitting around and told them that I was waiting for a long time, and they called out to the individual who had first interviewed me and he returned and joked that it would take 3 more hours, which once again seemed inappropriate and completely lacking empathy for a first time patient or really any patient that had been already waiting 1.5 hours. Finally Gary shows up. His affect, demeanor, and general energy were unprofessional. He did not look me in my eyes when he greeted me. He did not shake my hand and did not smile. In short, his energy was low, defeated, and it felt as if he did not want to be talking to me. After a brief conversation he ordered a sonogram and blood work. Without going on too long, I completed the sonogram, which thankfully was the most successful and positive experience of the entire visit. The female technician was nice and she appeared to be professional. But the horror began when the first interviewing individual calls me into another room to draw blood. He rummaged through cupboards looking for supplies and then tells me it is his first day on the job. Despite my growing discomfort, I let him complete the blood test. He barely could put the test needle and collection tube together and then trembled as he put the needle into my vein. He then spilled a large stream of blood onto my arm, wallet, and phone as he pulled the needle out of my arm. I told this to the sonogram technician and she told me he was not supposed to do the blood tests and was not trained to do them. I could go on, but I have run out of room for this review. AVOID THIS DOCTOR!!

My experiences with Dr. Jean-Baptiste were unsettling. There were a series of small frustrations that amounted to a bad experience overall. For example, he didnt remember my name. He didnt remember why I had came to see him. He didnt remember my family history. (Is it that hard to check your file before I walk in?) He twice forgot to order tests that he said he would order. When he finally did order the test, it took 6 weeks to get the results despite him saying they would only take a "few days". He left a door open for about a minute while I was laying naked on a table while other patients were walking by and looking in — very awkward. When he finally remembered to get the results of the test, the lab informed him that the technician had made a mistake and the entire test would need to be done again. To get a phone call with the results, I had to call seven times. Dr. Jean-Baptiste finally called me at 10:30PM to give them to me and acted as though that were a completely normal thing to do. His offices are dingy and run down. Very 70s. The water fountain is broken. They didnt have paper towels in the bathroom. Both of his offices rumble when trains run underneath like a scene out of Mary Poppins. Again, none of these things are major complaints but all together they amount to an unpleasant medical experience. I just simply want to feel like Im being taken care of when I come in. Remember my name. Check my chart before I walk in. Pay attention to my privacy. Dont interrupt. Call back when you say you will at a reasonable hour. And when its something potentially as serious as cancer, then please dont take 6 weeks to get me my results and only then realize that you administered the test incorrectly. And lastly, admit when you make a mistake and apologize. Business 101. Dr. Jean-Baptiste seems knowledgable. Nice too, even. Its a shame that hes either disorganized or oblivious. Staff too. They were supposed to call me yesterday to setup an MRI and they didnt. Im not surprised. Its enough to make me find a different general practitioner. You will probably want to do the same.

I had to wait over one hour to be finally seen by the doctor. It said he is specialized in travel vaccinations, but I didnt feel too comfortable by his judgement. Afterwards I called several times to get my results and was left with the promise somebody would get back with me. So far Im still waiting...
