My husband was in the hospital from 3/9/15 - 4/10/15. He passed away at Cleveland Clinic on 4/11/15. Although there are good nurses and staff everywhere, the overall experience at this hospital was awful. Staff was good on the 10th floor. The first hospitalist we had during the first couple of weeks was great. She understood his illness and fought hard for him to get into MICU when they turned him down the first time with pneumonia. She was the only passionate doctor I saw the whole time we were there. The second hospitalist was awful and as I found out later, I could have asked for the first one back. Too bad no one tells you this. The cleanliness was inconsistent. I was there every day for at least 9 hours to overnight on occasions. Sometimes they cleaned the floor and sometimes they didnt. I wouldnt feed the food to anyone. I brought it in for my husband daily as there is no fresh fruit or salads. Biggest issue is the weekend. Staff is reduced and on a holiday weekend, its even worse. I think they are overworked but that should not be my concern. That is the responsibility of the hospital. Twice on the weekend m husband developed pneumonia. The first time, when I came in on a Saturday at noon, he said he was having trouble breathing. Did not the nurse or doctor or tech notice anything the entire morning? He had breathing treatments the whole weekend. But not until Monday, when the hospitalist came in did they even call MICU. It took two days to get him in there. Thanks to my first hospitalist. The second weekend, I said on Friday that he wasnt well, and that something was wrong. Nothing happened until Sunday. The nurse called back the doctor but he did nothing. Then I requested the cardiologist who asked for an MICU consult after I said he needs help. Even thought the MICU doctor said he was sicker than his numbers indicated, he was turned down. But I was told someone would be up to check on him hourly whether or not they took him. No one said he was refused, but I later found out he was. This started at 2pm. They finally took him down at 3am. That was the first time a doctor came up that whole day. Spent a minute with him and left. Not enough staff on a holiday weekend. What happened to patient care? What has happened to looking at the patient and spending more than 2 minutes with them? Test results arent everything. They say how great this hospital is, but I believe they are talking about the vascular center. The hospital is an awful and depressing place to be. I am so sad that my husband spent his last weeks in that place. Be very aware of everything. Question everything. Demand service and do not be afraid that something might happen if you complain. If the doctor has already been in, ask for him or her to come back. Never assume anything. Never. I have filed a couple of complaints with the hospital, and for the last one, I met with someone there. That was more than 2 months ago without a response. I took the time to write an 11 page outline of every deficiency I saw there and requested their policies, including the requirements for MICU and they cannot respond? They want to be part of this medical corridor, then they need a lot of help. I will never go to that hospital again. I will not recommend that hospital. If you have a choice, go to Strong in Rochester.

I am a transgender and went for surgery on February 16 th for a simple procedure in my upper bicep to have a fistula put in for dialysis originally I was told I would not be put under anistesa but in pre op things took a strange turn. I was informed that I would be put out for the procedure. The Anesthesiologist asked me if I had any questions, so I asked if I would need a catheter she replied no. Knowing that they would make me get naked transgenders will tape thier genitals in situations like this. Just before I was put out they helped me sit up and untied my gown. These gowns have snaps on the shoulders for acess to my upper body. I felt betrayed and violated but it got worse. Upon waking I asked for ice chips to sooth my throat someone said "HE " needs ice then someone said "HE needs a wheelchair get HIM back upstairs. When I got back to my room a nurse threw my clothes on the bedside table and said" Get dressed. When I went into the bathroom to get dressed I saw that while I was out someone tore the tape covering my genitals I felt like I had been raped violated or made the but of joking while under anistesa. I will never use this hospital ever again. I have a follow up appointment today. I am very nervous to return.

So far awful. My girlfriend went in to emergency which went great but then she got sent to the 15th floor. Doctors seemed to know their stuff, if you were lucky enough for an actual doctor to come in. There was IR, medicine, surgery, and gastro on board for all of this. Not one of them seemed to know what the hell was going on with the other. Absolutely awful communication between departments to each other and the nurses. There were many number of messed up things that had happened while in there. Most recent she had a drain put in for an abscess just to get her through until her surgery, well the drain started leaking. She called her surgerion at Buffalo general, he told her to contact IR which is the department that put the drain in. She called IR, they told her to come in right away. After a nice painful half an hour drive to BGH, she got in had to sit there drinking the contrast for two hours for a CT scan. When they finally got her the CT scan they told her she can go home, told her they didnt know what to do or what she should do about the drain because everyone was gone for the day and to just go home. Are you frickin kidding me????? I hope kalieda reads this.

This hospital saved my life. I was brought in May 1st. I arrived via ambulance to the ED. 52 years old and in acute respiratory failure, pneumonia, empyema, a collapsed lung, shock and sepsis. My husband told me the staff was fantastic. They kept him updated on everything and never spoke negatively. I thought I had bronchitis but. it was a most severe case of pneumonia. The docs had never seen anything like it. My whole right lung and three different bacteria found. They worked fast to stabilize me. The nurses on the MICU are the best I have ever seen, and this is coming from a disabled RN who used to work in the ER at Millard Suburban. I was out for 17 days, was tapered off the meds keeping me sedated. I was awake on the vent for several days. The staff were excellent in reading me and my needs. Also, again excellent with my family. The ICU was meticulous too. I was eventually moved to a medical floor where again, I got excellent care. I was there just a few days and I was discharged. They set up visits from the VNA for me, home oxygen and also PT and OT.
