Save yourself some pain and drive the extra half hour to Waccamaw. This is the WORST hospital I have ever been to. I came in late Friday night/early Saturday morning. I had an infected tattoo and my GP wasnt open until Monday and I knew I needed to get it treated asap if there was any hope of savinf the tattoo. I came in and saw the triage nurse who was okay. The place looked gross though. I was brought to a room which was dirty. I didnt even want to sit on the cot or breath the air. After waiting for about an hour and a half (it was 1:00 am when I came in, just for reference), I finally was graced by the PAs presence. She came in, did not clean or sanitize her hands, did not put gloves on, and proceeded to touch with her bare filthy hands my already infected tattoo. She asked me why I thought it was infected and I said because it had red hazing, was hot to the touch, and starting to feel uncomfortable. She told me that was normal. Ive had MANY tattooes before... I know whats normal and whats not. Then she said oh it is a little red... yeah BECAUSE ITS INFECTED!!!! Then, after spending less than a minute with me, she leaves without saying anything. Then pops her head back in and asks if Im allergic to any medications and leaves before I can even say no. Then we wait some more (oh not to mention they had marked me as discharged before anyone came to see me). I was told I would see a doctor (since doctors are the ones who diagnose you), but I never did. About 30 minutes later a nurse comes in (the same nurse who said she was disappointed it wasnt my 9 month old son who was sick. Him and my husband were with me) and gives me a prescription and says its for cellulitis and to go fill it at CVS. Im thinking, thats it? I was never asked ANY questions other than if Im allergic to any medications. I had my 9 month old son with me and was still breastfeeding. She never asked me if I was breastfeeding or pregnant, if I was taking any other medications (which I was), or told me about any side effects, or anything at all! I was livid after I left. I had to ask the pharmacist all my questions, and then call my GP on Monday morning for a new prescription, which ended up being amoxicillin. I am so angry with this stupid hospital and now they want me to pay over $400!!! Never again! I thought going for an infected tattoo wouldnt be a big deal but apparently they cant even handle that. Shame on this hospital and the horrible staff they employ. Since this incident, I told some friends and they all said, I wish I had known I wouldve warned you not to go there. So many other people have horror stories, too. Take a wide berth around this place and go to Waccamaw. *Also, if you visit their Facebook page youll notice they dont have a review section... I wonder why -_-

...2 stars, BUT...only because the follow up by a certain Dr. Cheatle has been HORRIBLE. Please read below. I recently moved to Myrtle Beach from the Boston area. I was worried about founding a good place to go to after living in one, if not the top best city for hospitals and such. I arrived at the Emergency room Wednesday morning. The staff was amazing. They all jumped in right away and even before I was all done checking in, they brought me in. I came with a chronic pain in my left low back. Ive had some problems with my low back for a number of years, but this episode has been the worst. The pain was excruciating. Dr. Falkowitz and McCoy where very good. The room was instantly filled with helping hands. I was very impressed and felt safe. In no time they got to work. I was given some meds for the pain as well as 3 shots. The staff adviced I should get an MRI right away to figure out what was going on with my back. He referred me to Dr. Joseph Cheatle / Neurosurgery. I left the hospital feeling much better. Loved the space, staff and attention. I def recommend it. Now. Up until now I give this hospital a 5 Star rating. I have been calling Dr Josephs office for the last 2 days. Twice a day to be exact. No answer. Now it is Friday and I probably wont get a call back, if even, until Monday. Everytime I have been told that the message was past onto his secretary. Yet, no one has called. About 30 minutes ago I called the Emergency department at the hospital and told them what was going on. They said since he was the one On-Call, that I would have to go to him and no one else. Well, I would....If he ever returned the calls. Am I missing something here? What part of EMERGENCY DONT YOU GET DR CHEATLE??? At this point I am lost. With a chronic pain in my low back and disoriented. I only hope my health does not worsen over the next two days, or he will be hearing from my lawyers for malpractice. I am contemplating flying back (with pain) to Boston and going to my local doctor. I can guarantee you I will be seen and an MRI done within hrs of my arrival. So in short, the hospital staff was great. Will def return. As long as I dont have to deal with Dr. Joseph Cheatle.

I was vacationing with my family in SC this past week/weekend and unfortunately had to make a trip to the ER because my daughter had a very bad allergic reaction to something, which had never happened before. I was immediately please with the staff, and hospital itself. I walked in confused because it was so much different then my hospital back home. (Meritus Medical Center, Hagerstown, MD 21742) The lady who was working to get patients checked in after using the "check in computers" was so helpful. She immediately noticed my confusion, asked what she could help me with, and helped me get started to check myself in. She walked me through the process, and told us where to sit down, etc. We only waited about 15 minutes before the triage nurse came out to get my daughter for vitals and such. When we were back at triage, they gave us the ER Health Path card and explained to us that they were going to send her to the Express Care Unit so we wouldb e out faster then waiting for a bed in the ER Department. We went out then and waited at the Express Care Unit waiting area for someone else to call us back there. We were called back within 5-10 minutes. Went back there, spoke with a PA and nurse, got some medication in my daughter, said they would monitor her for about 30 minutes or so and we would be out. In the meantime, registration came to take care of getting all of the information she needed for my daughter. As soon as I was finished registration, a nurse verified registration had been done, sent us to another area to be discharged. Checked her vitals, went over discharge instructions, and prescriptions. We were in and out within an hour and a half. This to me is a good time for an ER that is a trauma center because my local hospital is a trauma center also and anytime we visit there, we expect our wait time to be at minimal 5-6 hours, and no, this is not an exaggeration! I am amazed at how nice the staff was, and how quick easy it was to get through the ER here. My local hospital needs to take notes from this Medical Center, because whatever they are doing here is working for patients and staff! Keep up the good work! Would recommend this hospital to anyone!
