I was referred to this office by One Medical Group (who I love them!) and requested a referral to an opthamologist with the same level of boutique service. They referred me here. The staff service was luke warm upon checkin. They couldnt find my referral. And said if they couldnt find it, "youll have to pay for the visit." Seriously... then - Dr. Eileen Wang was fantastic. She was clearly rushed - seemed to have double appointments but she was professional and I was fine with the quick service b/c I wanted to get back to work asap. The woman who handed me my eye glass prescription in the optometry section was great. The front desk at checkout got better when I went to make my co-pay. They confirmed that they couldnt find my (required by HMO) referral. I called back two days later... know the experience when you call a doctors office and she/he is just doing the job and you can hear how miserable the person is? But theyve done their job - so youre like what the heck? Yes, that was my experience. They found my referral but I prefer to go to an office where everyone is nice. Those offices do exist, I know they do - look at One Medical Group. They have exceptional service. I will not be returning. And I will not be referring friends. And, Ive shared my feedback with my primary care physicians office. Seriously, why is it that the admin staff at NEARLY every doctors office is horrible? ---UPDATE--- I called back because of a problem with my referral for this out-of-network provider. They woman who answered the phone was extremely nice; she had the billing associate call me back. She was extremely nice too! So different from the previous experience I had.... she said she would call me back, its been 3 days but its okay because she was extremely personable... once this is resolved, I think they merit a "good" rating here.

Went for what I thought was a routine vision screen for my 3 year old. He does not have vision problems and I was told by my GP that all 2-3 year old children should get their eyes checked--ie routine. In any case I scheduled the appointment explaining what I needed to a very friendly staff member. There were two issues and the reasons for the 1 star. First while we were there. The woman who did the initial work up--an MA--was very brusk with my kid, she had no training with kids whatsoever. Fine. But she ended the appointment with forgetting that she needed to put drops in my kids eye!! I had never been told this or understood why. And certainly my kid was very upset by it. It was a mess, he was a mess, and I was pissed that it was handled so badly. The actual optometrist was great. The second and larger reason for the poor review is that I got a bill for nearly $200!!! I had thought he was having a ROUTINE exam done--I had said that to the appointment person, was NEVER asked for a chief complaint or medical reason why my son was there. On the report they wrote that he had vision problems, which is just not true. The billing person said they dont do annual eye exams, they only do medical procedures. They should have said that when I made the appointment-=-especially since I explained I wanted a routine eye exam for a 3 year old!!! So while the office was clean and the staff at the desk were nice. The MD was very sweet. The MA sucked, but maybe would be find for an adult. I feel duped and I"m pissed I have to pay for something that I never wanted or asked for. So bottom line I wouldnt go with a kid, and definitely dont go for a routine eye exam cause apparently they dont do them.

Here is a brief description of my problem with Union Square Eyecare. Let me begin by saying that the doctors and staff are all very nice but I had such a long and drawn out issue with USE that I could not possibly give them a positive review. Here is why: I was told to come in for my contact lens fitting on a certain day. I went to the fitting but there was a misunderstanding with the doctor and she was not there. I said ok and since I had already paid the $50 copay, I agreed to use the $50 as credit towards the actual fitting that happened a few weeks later. After the fitting I asked about the $50 credit that I had with USE and could I please put that toward the fitting. They had a hard time finding the note where it stated I even had a credit but they did apply it after a long search and a conversation with the manager. The manager was apologetic and I thought the issue was over and done. Fast forward four months and I receive a letter in the mail saying that I need to take immediate action to pay the $50 for the contact lens fitting or the account would be sent to a collection agency! Unbelievably, I called USE and the receptionist told me that they had no record of me paying with the credit. I was persistent and told her that I was one hundred percent positive that I had paid the copay and to please look again. She put me on hold for about five minutes and then came back on the phone to affirm that I did indeed pay for the copay. I probably should have asked for a receipt because I wouldnt be surprised to see the same threatening letter in the mail in another five months.

Do not go to this place if you want your eyes examined. They are totally incompetent. They only spent a few seconds checking my eyesight and told me my glasses would be okay for another year. But a plumber would know better. I could not even read the top line with my right eye. It was a total blur with my glasses on. And with my left eye, I could read every single line down to the bottom with the same pair of glasses. Obviously these glasses were not working for me. The woman who examined me expressed concern that their equipment was not working properly!!!!!!! Then I was sent for a physical exam of my eye. This doctor explained away my inability to see out of my glasses as a very minor cataract problem! There was obviously no communication between these two doctors who examined me and I was sent on my way with glasses I could not see out of. A few weeks later I was driving home from a remote, unfamiliar spot in NJ at night. I COULD NOT READ ANY OF THE HIGHWAY SIGNS!!! I was on an expressway and was terrified to death. It was a long time before I could get off the expressway to safety. I called today to complain about this terrible exam. I spoke with a silly administrator who would not tell me her full name or the names of the doctors I saw. After I explained to her what had happened, instead of apologizing and trying to fix the situation, she tried to defend their methods! These are not people who care about their customers in any way. Go somewhere else. Dont put your life, or eyes in their hands.

Please note that my review is for Dr. Weitzner. The support staff is great, very helpful and friendly. If I could give this doctor 0 stars, I would. I went to Union Square Eye Care for an exam with some other specialized tests. I am recovering from a corneal ulcer and needed to results to consult with a specialist(in Florida) After Martha(tech) who by the way is lovely, did the first part of my exam, I was sent to Dr. Weitzner. After I explained the reason for my visit, he looked at my eyes and said that I had to go for corneal replacement surgery and was "wasting my time". He asked why would I visit a doctor in Florida when NYC is "the greatest city on Earth". He goes on to say that it was be a waste of money for me to pursue treatment with this doctor. His attitude was rude and condescending. I have insurance through Medicaid since Im unable to work right now. He refused to do anything further and didnt give me the tests I requested and gave me a referral to a specialist here in NYC. Oh but due to my Medicaid, he wont take my coverage either. I left the office(after crying in the bathroom because I was angry and upset) As a patient, I have a right to receive what I request regardless of the doctors opinion. Hopefully, other patients will get treated with courtesy and respect.
