17 Months ago I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. For those of you who know me wouldnt find this surprising being on how much crap I ate and how often I ate it. Standing at 56", weighing in at 320lbs and a blood sugar of 648 I had a true recipe for disaster. Unhealthy to say the least and never once gave it a thought on what could happen if I didnt fix my habits. It wasnt until I lost my vision on the way home from a dinner in Brooklyn that I finally said, I need to get looked at. I started at the hospital whom diagnosed the actually problem and sent me off to a specialist. The hospital did lower my sugar into the low three hundreds and sent me home. I never had a primary care doctor let alone a specialist. I have a insurance, so I figured let me use it to see what they have to say. I chose my Primary care physician and then I chose my endocrinologist. After coming highly recommended that I see Dr. Ahmad... and this is where life changed. Like I said, I was 5"6", 320 lbs. My sugar was 648, my A1C was 11.9. I was out of breath walking to the bathroom let alone up my driveway. He is a blunt man and I preferred that. Dont sugar coat it, tell me how it is. He looked at me and said "If you dont stop this, you are going to die." "Enough is enough, you want to fix this? Then follow what I am going to tell you and you will see you can do it" Well, So I did... Through medication, Diet Change and being a tad bit more active began the process. Life is different now. I feel better. I look Better. I see better. I eat better and I am very active now. I kind of feel young again. So, on October 12th 2015 here is where I stand. I am still 56". I am 98lbs lighter at 222lbs. My A1C is a 5.2. My highest sugar reading in the last 6 months was 122 and I feel great. These are results. Not a small number change but a life style change. If you suffer from Type II Diabetes, you can fix yourself. Try it, you will surprise you self. As for Doctor Ahmad, He is a great honest doctor. I highly recommend him. He will be honest and blunt, be prepared for it, but do what he says, it will change you.

i went to dr ahmad when i was told i was a type 2 diabetic 3 years ago. i was willing to do whatever it took to help my health. He immediately put me on metformin, for 3 weeks, and decided that it wasnt working and i needed a shot. I asked him, how he could judge that a medicince is not working in only a few short weeks, and he ignored me. I expressed great fear taking a shot, and he condescended me. I had to have a 3 month check up, and got a call that he thought my kidneys were in trouble, and i had to re-do a urine sample, I tried to call him back, scared that something was wrong, and when he finally called me back, he told me that i was basically a hypochrondriac and needed to stop. My kidneys were fine. He also told my fiance and I, that over weight women with diabetes should not get pregnant, that its almost impossible for me to concieve, i asked him to please explain how my blood sugar has anything to do with my fertility, he turned around in his chair and ignored me. You sit in a packed waiting room, for what could be 15mins-an hour. Finally youre brought to a scale that ALWAYS tells you that youve gained weight. I went to the gyno 3 days before him, and was told i was a certain weight, i go to him and im 15lbs heavier in 3 days. Then i had to get a print out of my medical history and he had all of my dates wrong. ridiculous. long story with more examples short, I stopped seeing him, as i was sick of being treated like i didnt matter, i went to see a new endocrinologist, who is just 2 short months got my A1c to a 5.8. I would never recommend his office to anyone.

Dr. Ahmad truly cares about his patients. In reading some of the other reviews, I can understand how people could see him as difficult. It wasnt until I became a pregnant type 1 diabetic that I appreciated Dr. Ahmad for what a wonderful physician he truly is to his patients. Dr. Ahmad wants you to be healthy. He wants you to be safe. He provides you with all of the tools and knowledge that you need to take care of yourself in the best way possible. So when you come in with an A1C well out of target range, hes not going to coddle you. He holds up his end of the bargain by educating you, prescribing medications and answering your calls at all hours of the day and night and he wants to see that effort reciprocated. He isnt going to sugar coat the possible complications of your disease, but he will empower you to avoid those complications. He cant do the work for you! Hes not being condescending towards you when you come in with bad numbers, hes just disappointed. Dr. Ahmad guided me through my pregnancy with care and compassion. I have a perfect little girl to show for both his efforts and mine. He is a great physician. And for those on here who dont agree, I challenged you to ask yourself, are you a great patient? Dr. Ahmad wants you healthy. And he will partner with you every step of the way.

Worst doctor I have ever seen, without exaggeration. I went to see him because my regular endocrinologist was on maternity leave and my blood work showed my dosage of thyroid medications wasnt high enough. Instead, Dr. Rehan took me off thyroid medication entirely---medication I had been on for four years--- without even tapering off. He looked at my charts and decided that I never had thyroid disease in the first place. Boy, was he wrong. And every doctor Ive seen since then who has looked at the same exact charts and blood testing has said so (endocrinologists, general practitioners, etc.). I was crashing within a week of being off of the medications, and called his office to plead for medication. He called back personally and basically accused me of being a hypochondriac, saying that there is no way I would feel the change in medications after only a week. This, of course, has also been proven false by multiple doctors. The reverberations of not tapering down lasted months. I am finally back on the dosage he should have put me on when I saw him in June 2014, and it is OCTOBER 2014. There are only a handful of endocrinologists in the Hudson Valley, so the situation is rather dire if you cant get an appointment, but DO NOT turn to him!!

Dr. Ahmad has always be kind and considerate to me. Ive been a patient of his for around 5 years, I believe. He never makes me feel like a number or rushed. He is very easy to talk with. He takes the time to listen to me and answers my questions. He seems very knowledgeable in his field and he keeps up with the latest developments. It seems like he genuinely cares about his patients. Dr. Ahmad and his staff are polite and accommodating also. I actually enjoy going to see Dr. Ahmad, even though I wish I had no reason to! I highly recommend Dr. Ahmad to anyone looking for a great doctor you can trust and feel comfortable with.
