STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. *UNREAL. Never thought I could be treated like this from ANY business. I took my cat here to be treated for diabetes- BIG mistake. Im in the hole for over $1,500 and my cat is worse than before. Terrible service, horrible attitudes and the vets talk down to you like you are a moron. Very clear *ALL they care about, is the MONEY*. Dont get fooled by their hackneyed expressions of "WE CARE for YOUR ANIMAL" Please...If you work hard for your money and love your pet- not the place for you.. Here’s my story: It started off bad from the beginning when they never knew who I was when I called and could never find my cats file.. On the first visit they wind up doing all the same tests that were done a week before at another vet clinic- *note: tests, which didn’t need to be done again.. “OH! Well, we lost your file!” , I was told again…. Because that’s an acceptable excuse! So I get nailed for a crazy bill.. Anyway, vet winds up prescribing my cat Humulin N insulin.. The stuff does nothing for his condition. Weeks go by, still doesn’t work. I finally bring him back about a month later… His sugar is very high. So, the vet asks me why he is on Humulin N? I was in actual shock… I slowly explained to her that YOU, NOT ANOTHER VET, PRESCRIBED IT TO ME!” I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to pop out and tell me I got “Punk’D, bra” So, she then prescribes me with Lantus after I say I need something that won’t be too expensive. I was told it was a little more $.. Well they wanted $300 a month for it, when I was paying $30 for the Humulin N… WAIT! It gets better! So, I’m at another vet now and he’s reviewing the cat’s history and says “your cat has a UTI? Do you know about this?” They didn’t mention to me that my cat has a UTI or prescribe me with any antibiotics or medication, despite them having this information in front of their face. Well, Ashton Kutcher never showed up and this place is a joke and should not exist. Clear result of when commercialism meets veterinary medicine- terrible care, unnecessarily drawn out and expensive treatments and underpaid workers. If you love your pet and want to save time, money and aggravation- don’t come here.

I am giving 5 stars for saving my cats life. Here is my story. My Archie boy 1 year old DSH I thought was coughing up a hairball for 2 days, but noting was expelled. At 11pm yesterday , his breathing started to look labored . Went to Bay Street animal hospital where I am very comfortable, and have been going for years. The doctor there gave him some steroids and some inhaler because it was NOT a hairball, she was thinking it was an asthma attack! BSAM wanted to do chest xray but their machine was down, so they sent me to South Shore Animal Hospital. As soon as I walked in the door the staff alerted medical staff that the cat with respiratory failure was here. The tech grabbed my cat in seriously less then 10 seconds and put my fur baby in the oxygen tank. Archie stayed there for a good 3 hours and they then took chest Xray and basically confirmed it was asthma. The quick intake of Archie into the oxygen tank really saved his life. So I rate 5 stars because of these reasons: 1) Took my cat in STAT! 2) Left him in oxygen to relax from car ride a while BEFORE getting him in chest xray. Rather then rush the xray, and stress him more 3)Tabitha* I think thats her name, was very compassionate as well as the lady at desk who helped me fill out paperwork b/ I was so upset. 4) The Doctor (nice lady) was very thorough 5) After his treatment his breathing was almost perfect . The only cons I had were I feel the the Xrays didnt need to be reviewed further by radiologist at an addition $85, they were pretty clear and plain to see.... In an emergency, I feel they did exactly what they are there to do, Save my pets life, and then follow up with regular vet for next course of treatment. Are they expensive, Yeah it was 1 Am and it was an emergency...I dint expect to walk out paying $200....I knew it would be closer to $500-$1000. Overall, In an emergency I trust them to keep pet alive.

. Brought my dog in 2 AM 2 Sundays ago apparently in recurring pain and distress -the possibility of urinary infection had been postulated by our regular vet the day before - seemed as though she had to pee a lot - he said needed a good urine sample to analyse which I could bring in the following Monday. However, he was ready to sell me an antibiotic before getting diagnosis --which I rejected. At the S.S. Animal Hospital the very kind young vet, after preliminary examination was convinced that there was no urinary blockage (the danger of that possibility was what brought me to an emergency clinic at that hour). She found nothing in the physical exam, including checking the anus which gave any clues as to what might be the problem. She took a sterile urine sample to be sent to a lab to look for cistitis - though she noted that there were many other things which could cause symptoms which cold be found on a comprehensive lab test. I signed on for $475, which included blood, urine, 2 x-rays. She showed us the xrays which she showed us seemed perfectly normal - and said they would be further analyzed by a radiologist. Another of their vets called us 2 days later to advise that she was normal for everything except giardia, which needed medication. She was also very nice and easy to talk to and said they would prepare medication. Contrary to the negative reports I got the impression that this is a well-run ethical operation with competent caring professionals

My first visit was last year for a UTI of one of our Campers. We noticed her UTI within the first hour of her visit. I called SSAH and explained my situation and they told me to come right in (owners/parents where on vacation). When I arrived everyone was friendly and doing there daily task. When I went into the room the vet tech and Dr. took extra time with my camper because I told them she was fearful. They all where very professional, caring and worked with my camper with gentle caring body language and vocals. I am a trainer and behavior consultant that actually promotes education for the various canine professionals. We promote education using positive reinforcement and also changing emotional responses for safer interactions and experiences for all. Therefore being around animals myself and understand the importance of safe handling and helping an animal cope with changing environments (definition of stress) I was very happy with my first visit to this establishment. I am writing this review little over a year after my visit because I am actually reviewing our emergency protocols for our camp and we are still going to use SSAH in case of an emergency. This was our only visit but as many humans dont take the time to write good reviews but are always quick to write about any negative experiences ( normal behvaior) I figured Ill leave my review for my good experience :) Vinny Olito CPDT-KA, CCDT

Our cat had an accident and broke her front paw. My husband took her to this clinic, as it was late on Thursday night. They did xrays, and placed a cast on her, gave her pain medication charged us $570 for that and gave a quote for a surgery - $2000. Boy, am I glad we didnt agree to the surgery in this clinic!!! I scheduled a surgery with our vet in Brooklyn and whe our vet took off the cast he was in shock how poorly the cast was placed in the clinic - they put it in a completely wrong place!!!! The break was above the elbow, and they placed the cast from paw to the elbow! Thus resulting in large swelling of the shoulder and a hematoma in the underpaw area. :(( The cast was pulling her paw with broken shoulder down with the weight. I cant believe these people still can practice and treat other pets. I have to take her to surgeon again on Sunday so he can tighten the screws, hopefully the swelling will go down before that. Please avoid this place like a plaque! My cat could have been recovered in 3-4 weeks, now the recovery is going to take much longer due to the poor treatment at South Shore Animal Hospital.
