On Saturday, July 15, 2017, I called Kool Smiles to see if they could assist me with a filling that is connected to a Maryland bridge. I spoke to one of the dentists, she stated they would look at bridge, correct or refer to a specialist within the company. I made an appointment for Monday, July 17, 2017 at 3:00. I took 2 ½ hours off from work to correct a bad tooth. I arrived at 2:50PM, filled out paperwork and waited 45 minutes until I was called in the back. Also, then waited another 45 after my x-ray was taken of the tooth. They were over scheduled and the place was packed! When Dr. Poole, the head dentist arrived I shared my dissatisfaction of waiting 1 ½ hours before I saw a doctor for being "a new patient". He looked at the tooth and could not see the inside the tooth due to the bridge covering the tooth. The x-ray was not of any assistance in determining the status of me tooth. Dr. Poole said he would not be able to do it. I asked questions why since my old dentist was able but was no longer covered under my insurance. He said, he would call Dr. Johnson to observe for a second opinion and see if she would attempt to refill my tooth. She arrived, stated that the drill could accidentally hit & brake the bridge and would have no way to repair the bridge since they did not have a lab. I wish Dr. Poole would have explained that. She apologized and said I would have to find another dentist who specialized in Cosmetic Dentistry. I asked why since my previous dentist was not a specialist? I was taken up front to get a credit for being improper charge for the incorrect type of x-ray. I asked for a full refund since no service was provided, “we can not do this” and you will need to look for another dentist. In the mean time I lost 2 ½ hour from work, I spend $30.00 for them to tell me “we can not help you” and did not refer me to a specialist within the company as stated on Saturday’s conversion. I am extremely dissatisfied with their services!!!! If you have more than a simple procedure such as a check up or filling...I highly recommend you stay away from this business and do not waste your time.

Ive taken my son to Kool Smiles (Gulfport) since he was a kid. When we moved to VA Beach I located this one and the past 2 times Ive gotten mediocre service until this time it went from average to HORRIBLE. My son had to get 2 teeth extracted and they were trying to charge me $30 for pulling a loose tooth so instead I asked them to pull 1. The girl at the front desk said she needed to go get the doctor and blew everything out of proportion, making it seem as if I needed the doc, when all she had to say was yes or no. Once I got with the doc she seemed agitated but thats not important. The next thing that happened, I went back into the room where my son was going to get treatment and the girl came back stating that she needed to go over the plan with me. I didnt feel like dealing with her until the end (at this point Im just beyond irritated at all the people she involved over 1 simple question) and so she sent in her office manager to make me pay before they did treatment. The doctor had already put the meds around my sons tooth and gave him laughing gas. So when the office manager came in she said the doctor ordered her to make me pay, at this point I feel as if they dont trust me...so my question was that if I didnt pay at this moment what were they going to do about my son that had laughing gas in his face and numbing meds in his mouth? She said that he just wouldnt get the tooth extracted. Again, I told her Id pay at the end. Long story short, the doctor, who cut his eyes to look back at me on the way out the door after numbing my son, did so Im guessing to see how trustworthy I looked (?) I felt so uncomfortable, it was then that thw office manager came in, miND you the doc wasnt in there, this was done passive aggressively...I ended up giving the manager my debit card, she kept stating it was policy and when asked if she could show me the policy she said its just what the docs told her to do. Im just over this place. Its commercial, they only care about the money. $39 later, the doc pulled a tooth, asked if I had Tylenol and walked out. No rapport building, NOTHING.

My 9 yo son has had 3 appts at KS, two for procedures and one for an exam. We went yesterday and I was not happy with the customer service. First, the receptionist couldnt find our appointment, upon some digging our last name had been entered incorrectly in their system. Then it was 20 minutes after our appointment time and they called me back for payment. I had written a check there before with no problems, but for some reason, their system would not take my check. My hubs is military, it was the 15th, so we had PLENTY of money in our account. The women there suggested I run to a nearby ATM and get cash, I was not happy about that as all of this was just delaying my son being seen, but I obliged and went to ATM, paid service fee(we bank at a military credit union) and paid them in CASH. Then at about 40 minutes after his scheduled appointment time, we are going back to the procedure room. The atmosphere in the room went for friendly and nice to stressful and nerve wracking quite quickly. My son was upset, said he was having pain from the get-go(after laughing gas, numbing stuff and shots). The Dr and dental assistant were initially nice, but soon they seemed frustrated and short. My son was wiggly, but I think he was very nervous and unsure of what was going on. The Drs English was hard to understand and my son likes to have things explained to him. I couldnt understand some of words she said. Then at the end of the visit she said she out loud that she couldnt believe that he was getting so upset about having sealants put in. I think that was TOTALLY unprofessional. I didnt want to get into an argument with her in front of the asst and my son as I knew that wouldnt help matter, PLUS I just wanted to get out of there. KSs prides themselves in being so kid-friendly, but I saw two employees not stay patient or "KOOL" with my child when he was scared and uncertain of what was going on. We will be seeking out to find another dentist, theres nothing KOOL OR COOL About Kool Smiles. :(

I love a few associates there. I strongly suggest tearing it down restaffing it and then trying again. People do any of us realize how ridiculous it is that we are having to write a review about rude people who chose to work in a profession filled with KIDS are!!! Why should our children be subjected to nastiness? Its a big enough struggle just to get them to the doctors or dentists without a fuss! So why would you allow rude people to work in a facility that should be light pleasant and helpful. KID FRIENDLY most importantly! I know that I will never go back and also bc two different dentists had two diff diagnosis for my children and thats not good. One says put a silver cap n the other states my child didnt need any at all. Filled her little cavity and went on to the next patient. This is scary bc my child wouldve received something she didnt even need. But us as parents trust you all bc we have no choice. We are not dentists and we must go off of what you say. As far as the overall treatment--- WE didnt ask you all to be a provider that accepts Medicaid and such, you think that we are not equal to those that have regular insurance and that we should be treated any different?? I pay taxes every paycheck and its not right to be in an atmosphere such as these. Most KOOL Smiles are like this so if we want to do something about it. We would all literally have to ban it and vow to never return. In the midst of this ASHLEY is Phenomenal and their new manager is awesome yet she can only do so much. I had a rude receptionist that knows she shouldve never been hired to work in any doctors office let alone one with children and she is the true reason my children and I wont be returning to this location. Thanks for trying but no way no how. Clean up your staff first and then possibly things will turn around for you. I wish everyone the best.
