About 6 years ago, when I was 47 yrs old, had a left torn meniscus repaired. Being a dirt bike rider and bow legged didn’t help. For the last 5 years, was bone on bone on the inside of my left knee. Not a fun situation. Visited Dr. Firestone in March of 2016 for severe left knee pain. He had a plan of action, was confident and explained what was going to happen. Less than 30 days later, on April 11, 2016, Dr. Firestone performed a left TKR. The appointment was at 9 am. We started with pre-op procedures. At 10 am knocked me out and wheeled me into surgery. At 1 pm they woke me up and had me walk around a little. Did all the post-op tests and at 3 pm, they sent me home. On the 12th of April had in home physical therapy come by for about an hour / hour and a half and work on flexibility and other things. They came by everyday for about a week. The bend or range of motion for my left knee, at the end of Home PT, was about 94 degrees. I used a walker for a few days and graduated to a cane. There was virtually no pain. The only pain (not really pain, discomfort is more appropriate) was the swelling. I only took pain medication at 11 pm so I could sleep until 5 am. No matter how I positioned myself in bed, eventually it was uncomfortable. Not painful. After a week of that, revisited Dr. Firestone. When I first had an appointment with him, he told me he would have me driving in 10 days. Well, he was off a lil. I visited him 9 days after surgery, everything looked good. He said that if I felt like it, I could drive and go back to work on light duty. So when I got home, I got into my lil 1980 Toyota pickup. I fit and was able to maneuver to stop and go, safely. So within “9” days, I was driving. Little did Dr. Firestone know, I was driving a (light) clutch 9 days after a Total Knee Replacement of my left knee. I started back to light duty work, driving, 10 days after surgery. Next I started PT at a different location. These folks were awesome. About 3 weeks after surgery I was able to do full revolutions on the Airdyne bicycle. At about 6 weeks the PT folks had my knee bending to 120 degrees. At 9 weeks we had 131 degrees of bend and at 10 weeks I was released from PT . I still do the excercises ( when I remember) at home. I am now riding a bicycle everyday, I walk the dogs and am fixing to hike some great trails in western Arizona when the weather cools off a tic. I feel that with Dr. Firestone’s expert surgical skills and TKR knowledge, coupled with his top notch physical therapists, and a willingness on my part to do what they told me to do. It created a very successful total knee replacement. Everyone that I dealt with on this adventure has been top tier. It is appreciated. Bottom line, it is a team effort for successful results. Dr. Firestone does 100% on his part, the PT folks do 100% on their part, and we need to do 100% on our part. Do, and don’t do, what they tell you, no skimping. Any less and you are short changing yourself. I look forward to having my right knee done. Thanks Dr. Firestone and staff, for a job well done ! .... ***UPDATE*** . In November of 2016, Dr. Firestone performed a TKR on my right knee. Basically it was the same as the left. To hit a home run on the left knee, might have been good luck. But to also hit a home run on my right knee, is skill. I walk without a waddle and totally with out pain. Having straight knees and being able to walk correctly has also eliminated the lower back pain. Thanks again, Dr. . You are the best !

First, I have to say that a previous review I did of Dr. Firestone might have been misinterpreted. I believe that Dr. Firestone is an excellent doctor and did a GREAT job on my knee. I did have problems, and still do (he told me today that my patella is twisted), but it is not because he did not do a good job. It is because no one told me what to expect and how to prevent problems. I was told that I would be able to drive home to NY from Arizona 5 weeks after my surgery. That was a mistake. I did NOT drive home, thank God, but I rode home in the front seat of a horrible 26 foot U-Haul. I was in agony. Then when I got home, I did not start PT right away, because I did not know how important it was. Further, I did not start PT until after I was a good 6 weeks out - I should have started immediately after the surgery. Any problems I have, have nothing to do with Dr. Firestones surgical skills. I have GREAT range of motion - I am at 118 degrees bending, and the best you can expect from a new knee is 120, according to my NY physical therapist. And now I am starting PT next week again, and hopefully I can gain the strength necessary to move my patella into place. Also - when I said that I would not have had it done if I had known how bad it would be, I did not mean that I wouldnt have had him do it, but that, considering the move home to NY, and the stress that was ahead of me, I would have waited until I was retired and back in NY!! Thats all. I would have had to find someone else, but Dr. Firestone himself did a great job on my knee.

Dr. Firestone is the best! Dont give it a second thought! I came to Dr. Firestone with arthritis in both knees that had made my legs collapse outward at the knees (I looked knock-kneed). I felt pain, stairs were becoming very difficult for me and my exercise program was suffering. I also had muscle and ligament damage, as well, after years of untreated skiing & horseback accidents, and I was a runner, as well. I had a lot of damage, and I wanted both knees fixed at the same time. He agreed after a thorough consultation, and Im so glad we did it. I hosted a party for 50 at my home in high heels exactly 6 weeks after my surgery with perfectly straight and stable legs! Now, after three months and following a good PT program, I am off daily pain pills, and I become aware of my knees (fatigue) only when I have been on my feet all day long! Once Ive regained my leg strength and muscle tone, I dont think that will even be an issue. Dr. Firestone really seems to understand the body and how it works...observing things about my walk and body structure that no other doc had ever mentioned. He is fun to work with, very business-like, insightful, observant, encouraging, and simply a great surgeon. He has a wonderful staff at his office and an excellent surgical team. Mine was a great decision.

I recently had my right hip replace by The Joint Replacement Center of Scottsdale, Dr. Firestone, and as a result I am looking forward to returning for knee replacement when eligible for another FMLA. During the first appointment with Dr. Firestone he informed me of his expectations of me and of my expectations of him. I was in very poor health due to my condition, taking too many Ibuprofen and Naproxen for pain. The doctor insisted that I get cleared by a cardiologist prior to surgery. The medical staff was very thorough in setting up appointments, assisting in expediting both my cardiology appointments and surgical procedures resulting in re-scheduling surgery a week early due to my pain. The Joint Replacement Center of Scottsdale staff was always available to me when needed for prescriptions, FMLA documentation with my employer or to answer any of my questions either by phone or email. Additionally, Dr. Firestone reviewed post therapy procedures to minimize my recuperation, allowing me to get back to normal daily activities. I would and have, highly recommended friends and acquaintances to utilize the superb services of Dr. Firestone and The Joint Replacement Center of Scottsdale.
