AZ Teacher
I live in Tucson, but I am the son of a dentist residing in Phoenix. In December of 2014, I went in to Aspen for an exam, x-rays, and cleaning. The bill was for $220, $120 of which was my co-pay. After the exam and set of 15-19 "full-mouth" x-rays were completed, I inquired about the cleaning. I was told by the hygienist that I needed a deep-cleaning, aka "scaling", and that my teeth would not and could not be cleaned in the regular fashion. The co-pay for the scaling was another $130. Well, as a teacher here in Tucson, I didnt have a spare $130 after having just paid $120 for the first co-pay. So, I called Aspen and asked if they would just clean my teeth to get rid of the plaque, etc. for now and asked if we could do the scaling on the next visit. I was told by a receptionist, a hygienist, and the office manager that my request was impossible because the hygienist had "prescribed" my scaling and that she would "lose her license" if she back-tracked on her assessment and scaling plan. This all sounded fishy to me, so I called the AZ Board of Dental Examiners and was told there was no such rule about hygienists losing their license over a request like mine. They essentially told me Id been fed a line. Therefore, I was lied to by Aspen three times by three different people, including the office manager. Given that my first co-pay was $120, that I was given almost 20 x-rays (Ive never had more than six in 45 years), and that I was being forced into another high co-pay cleaning... Ill allow you to draw your own conclusions. I will be reporting Aspen Dental to the BBB and filing a complaint with the Board of Dental Examiners (for starters). Buyer beware at Aspen Dental.

While on a cross country motorcycle trip, my husband and I needed our 6 month teeth cleaning. (Our last teeth cleaning was done 6 months ago at our Aspen Dental office in Pittsburgh area). I called to get an appointment in Tucson when we knew wed be there. Id like to rate the facility, the hygienist and the dentist....ALL get a 5! The facility is spotless, modern and has state-of-the-art equipment. The hygienists name is Karina Vazquez. Her professionalism, competence and her "love at what she does" is evident. She is WONDERFUL at her job! Not only did she give me the best teeth cleaning Ive had in 5 years, she found built up plaque that had been there "for some time". The dentists name is Dr. S. Lee. She also is WONDERFUL. She gave me a most through exam. She uncovered some teeth that needed "watched" that I did not know were a possible issue. But thats about me. This is what happened with my husband. When Karina did his cleaning, not only was she give his teeth the best cleaning he had had in 5 years but she also uncovered three teeth that needed a closer look. Dr. Lees exam did find 3 cavities including one that was under a filling. That tooth needed a crown. Again, these issues had existed for some time. They fit him in immediately to do the work needed, including the crown prep. We decided to go ahead with the crown prep/crown because "we want it done right". So we must return to Tucson in 4 weeks when the permanent crown can be placed. KOODOS to the staff w/help in scheduling/paperwork/insurance! This is the first time I have placed a review on Google about a business, but the people at THIS business deserve a 5 STAR review!

So I first went to them in Nov 14, had Xrays done, cleaning etc. 6 months later I go back for a cleaning and at this point I have a bump on my gum, so I bring it up to the hygienist and turns out its an abscess tooth...great :( So as the dentist is talking behind my back to the hygienist I can hear shes referring to my xrays. So I ask her if you can see the infection in my Xrays, she says yes, so I respond with "why didnt anyone mention this to me 6 months ago!?!?!?!?!" and she said and I quote "Because I wasnt here, hahaha" (The dentist I saw last time had moved to PHX) She literally laughed!! Not funny lady!!! So here I am pretty upset because she is basically telling me the tooth will most likely have to be pulled and she keeps saying "its just a tooth"!! Then they send me to a endodontics, only for him to tell me he cant help me because the infection is in the gum not the root. Oh great $55 later and total waste of time, plus time off work. Why would they send me to a endodontics?? Did they not realize I need a periodontist? Thanks for NOTHING Aspen Dental!! Dont waste your $$ or time here folks!!!

I recently moved to Tucson. For the past several years I have had my teeth cleaned 3 times each year. At my age recession of gums is common, so I want to watch them. The hygienist told me that my gums were bleeding and that I needed expensive and extensive treatment. I have never seen blood when brushing or flossing. Also, the time taken to do the probing (measurements) of my gums was in nano seconds compared the the careful measuring other dentists have done. I went in thinking Id get my teeth cleaned and examined. They took more xrays that I have ever had taken and did not clean my teeth. All of this took more than two hours. It was a depressing visit because I take very good care of my teeth. Either these people are quacks or the dentists Ive seen prior to this visit are. I will not return. They are a rip off, much of the cost is administrative, and their care plan is not reasonable.

nice place until the financing, my cost would have been pretty high and they wanted to see me every two months for an undetermined amount of time after a tooth extraction and some gum work. so I asked if i could use or buy an a insurer they would accept and could recommend, since i would be seeing them so much. i would rather buy insurance that would pay for some of my expenses and i can make payments to my insurer. instead after i asked? the response was (dont i have a savings account?) i pretty much ran out the door after that response by the finance department. all my defences went up! i felt like i was about to have my savings account bled dry. very uneasy and personal to ask about my personal savings when there are insurance companies that i can purchase per month or year to cover any or extra expenses.

The people are extraordinarily sweet and kind. They want you to have the best teeth possible so you can smile showing your own teeth if possible. My only problem is that not all of us can afford to do most of these treatments. I even increased my dental insurance so I could get the most I possibly can. I am spending part of my grocery money to fix my teeth, because what is great about food if you cant chew it? In the end, even after all this and having to skip other medical appts(to instead use that money here), I will still be like $11,000 short. That amount is with the two bridges I am supposed to need that are at $3,600 a piece. What is absolutely crazy and depressing, is that I only receive a few thousand more in disability a year!
