If you have never been to a not for profit eye center do yourself a favor and visit this place just once. Its really cool when all they care about is getting it right, and not trying to get you out the door. I was a lifelong soft contact user and I went in for a routine eye exam about 15 years ago and some random eye place. Do to some serious concerns about the shape of my eye the Dr (former UC Grad) recommended I go to UC Berkeley and see Dr Berger. It turns out I had a rare eye condition called Keratoconus. Its a condition when your eye is shaped like a football instead of a basketball. I went in and had your typical exam with one of the undergrads, but Dr Berger was in the room the majority of the time. Dr Berger is a stud on that campus and it made me feel pretty special to have an expert like that looking me over so closely. Dr Berger ends up telling me I have a mild/moderate case of Keratoconus and that if I swap to RGP contacts it will help prevent my Keratoconus from getting worse, and an added bonus it will make my vision better. Going from soft to hard contacts was really painful. They fit on the eye completely different and initially they really hurt. But I must say Dr Berger and his undergrads did an amazing job. I first started off with Dr Bergers trial RGPs, and then they kept ordering new contacts until the fit was just right. I probably had 6-8 visits when it was all said and done. I ended up seeing multiple teaching professors at this center during that time, and I was just blown away by the whole level of service. Yes it was a pain to keep going back, but at the end of the day they did everything they could to address my Keratoconus, and they made my vision so much better. Going from 20/40 to 20/25 was nothing short of amazing. I have been back to this center multiple times over the years and I have nothing but good things to say about them. I really think this center is one of the best eye exam places in the area and if you have any sort of weird eye condition go and see these guys. You will not be disappointed.

"Meredith W. Morgan Eye Center - Very frustrating, - I returned a third time to get a refund for a simple pair of lenses that the eye clinic could not reproduce. It all started when I scratched my lenses in a bad fall. I drove from SAC to Berkeley and dropped off my glasses for repair. I had my perscription faxed there. I paid cash as my insurance does not cover eyewear. My eyes were NOT measured with a pupilometer, (as was posted on my chart) so the resulting lenses, surprisingly, three times thicker than normal, made my eyes cross after about 5 feet. I told them that they were not right, on the contrary they were embarrassingly thick, but I was told to wear them for a week to get used to them. They gave me a headache in an hour, and my eyes hurt for a few days afterward, so I called them back. I returned the glasses and waited for two weks for a new result. I went to pick them up , and even tho the lenses were thinner, the vision was the same; my eyes crossed after about 5 feet. I told them that but was told to wear them for a week to see if I could get used to them. Again, ridiculous - my eyes were crossing. Nobody checked my eyes with a pupilometer, nobody called my optometrist back in Indiana for more information. They just tried on their own to copy a perscription and check and recheck the numbers to no avail. Finally I called them and asked for my money back, which they agreed to. I am still shocked that a world-renouned place like the Meredith W. Morgan Eye Clinic with all its technology, training, schooling, etc., could not reproduce a simple pair of lenses, which I had reproduced successfully by other optometrists. I am pretty sure I will not be going back."

I need to go to the center as something in my eye bothered me. I had mixed experiences and hopefully it will help you for your future trip if ever needed. Great part: The appointment was made on the same day once the assistant realized the urgency. Good part: This is a training center so the student will exam the patient first. It depends on individual. But it did not bother me to be one of samples. We need to have good future eye doctors. Great part: The doctor is very good ! He clearly cares a lot and is technically excellent. He even called the day after the procedure. Not too good part: I received the full bill as if no insurance. Not too good part: they did not make the followup appointment Terrible part: It turned out they do courtesy billing to your insurance company as they are not contracted with medical facility. My insurance company instructed me that it is easier if the eye center bills them directly so they get all the needed information. When I called asking the billing department in the eye center to fax the claim, I was told they wouldnt do that unless I pay over the phone. I had to contest it before the lady agreed. I felt like being treated like a outlaw who may run away with $200 medical bill...

The Team Care at Morgan Eye Center provided an exceptional opportunity for me for eye care. As a first experience, it was warm, friendly, comfortable, respectful and extremely helpful in individual needs, explanations, and adjustments to personal circumstances.. The entire environment and staff were wonderful, particularly the student and Doctor ! I am very grateful and would recommend it highly .....!! Cant find how to do the next post, so will add here.....Returning in a few days for glasses that the Dr said were not necessary now, but might want them in six months or a year, I chose do get the prescription lenses now. The entire experience for this too, was exceptionally wonderful, especially for someone who has never had glasses! One could say that they bent over backwards to help with unique personal variations and accomadations needed. I cant believe that I forgot to name the two main people who were so extremely helpful on the survey, and hope that this will somehow get where it needs to go. Initially Sue Cobb-Silver, optician, and then Nadia Samil, O.D. doctor, both took me in as a complete newbie in this field, and made it a very, very pleasant and beneficial time. !!

Ever since I started going to the Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center I have been happy with my results. First in 2010, when I was able to get multifocal RGP contacts that fit on the first try - after about 7 months of another optometrist outside of the university not being able to do it. Next I had just an eye exam and was very pleased with the student and her instructor. Now, my latest experience was a joy. Still wanting to see near as well as far, they suggested I would have good results with one lens for near and one for far, although I mentioned I had tried it before and not been happy. The instructor explained why this time would be different - and he was right! I can see distance, I can now read the newspaper with my contacts on, and I can see the computer in my classwork without squinting. I thought the student I saw was very talented and will do very well in this work. The instructor, Dr. Burger, was a great "explainer" for me, so I understood all the whys and hows. An overall excellent experience!
