I love HPSJ. I have an extensive back injury, female issues, and am lacking a thyroid. HPSJ ensured I not only had excellent doctors--and a wide choice of doctors, they also made sure I had the prescriptions I needed (incl. post surgery pain medication). Unlike other plans (Humana, Kaiser), I can call and get information. If theres a situation (such as my needing the expensive name brand thyroid replacement meds), they are on it and give me a reference number for my call. They dont leave you hanging and you can get a supervisor to follow up. I cannot speak for the other people reviewing, but I have not encountered any of the problems mentioned. I also noticed that multiple people blamed HPSJ for a bad DOCTOR. HPSJ, like any other insurance, deals with health care systems--not individual doctors. If you have a problem with a specific doctor, talk to their administrators and the medical board. You can also fire the doctor and file a report with HPSJ.---Just an FYI.

I have very bad COPD. When I lived in Santa Clara and was on the Santa Clara county health plan my COPD was controlled very well with Advair and Spiriva. I bought a house in Modesto and was placed on the health plan of San Joaquin. This health plan refuses to provide me with Spiriva stating I don’t meet the criteria for the medicine it is only for 2nd stage COPD sufferers. They have substituted several medicines in place of Spiriva, none of them have worked. With Spiriva I can enjoy a normal life going out and doing things like a normal person, without Spiriva I have trouble breathing and basically have to sit on my couch, feeling terrible and use my rescue inhaler 4 or 5 times a day. Why does an insurance company have the right to decide what kind of life I can have either going out doing things as a normal person or sitting on my couch, having difficulty breathing and suffering just so they can save some money!!

All the doctors I have called in the book wont take this insurance, I called to get my two boys a doctor today and was told they are only taking children 5 and under. "Ok, so will you at least see my 4 year old" she asks "well what does he need to be seen for? Because this is freaking America and my kids and I should be able to have a doctor? I dunno is that not a good enough reason? Anyway I was put on hold for 5 minutes (Im assuming they were hoping I would hang up). Another lady answered the phone and informed me that I would have to go elect them as a doctor on the website wait for confirmation and a date when it is effective then I can call and make an appointment. SO let me get this straight, I have to go do YOUR job becaaauuuuusee???? So far not happy, I am going to assume that if I want anything done I am going to have to go to an urgent care if I want my kids or I to be seen at all.

I saw a doctor (the only one I could get an appointment with) in Manteca and it was an awful experience! No gloves, he stunk of cigarettes so bad I had to ask for a different room thinking it was the last patient in the room but no, it was the doctor! He was an a-hole and so unprofessional! I had blood work and the lady who took my blood didnt put gloves on and I asked why she isnt wearing gloves and her reply was "honey Ive been doing this for 16 years"! I called numerous times to get my results and discuss them with the doctor and nobody ever called me back!! Finally on my last attempt the lady told me he no longer works there!

They offer you the plan however you cannot get a good doctor. Theyre all full they dont care. Last time I live in Stanislaus County the doctor on Coffee Road the neurologist there said that was nothing wrong with me 2 years later I woke up in a wheelchair. I had to move back here and because of what he did to me no doctors want to see me because Im a complex case So now Im stuck with no Dr no meds no nothing! They say they will help you find a dr however they are too far away and I am disabled. I do have a doctor my old Dr he was willing to take me and San Joaquin health told them no you cant see her. WTF?

this place is a joke! i have been trying to get coverage since Sept its now November and still trying to get coverage they keep having excuses as to why i cant get it and then when i send in the proof that i do not have other ins coverage they conveniently lost the papers....twice!! meanwhile i am in horrible pain and cant get my prescriptions for the infection in my gums. the pharmacy wont even let me pay cash for them because they said that health plan wont allow me to pay for them. seriously this place is the worst!! if i could give it no stars i would

Health Plan Of San Joaquin is a Joke! Ive called 20 doctors listed in their booklet and only found 2 that were actually accepting new patients from my health plan! The first doctor I saw was beyond unprofessional but downright rude and their office was rundown and dirty from parking lot to waiting room! Doctor number two had a better bedside manor than the first doctor which isnt saying much. I would NOT recommend this health plan to anyone!

I do not like this Hlth Plan at all!!!! They have no clue how to properly operate a business like this; just because U hire someone doesnt mean U just let them run loose without the PROPER training & what not. Its a damm shame what companies get away with, especially in the HEALTHCARE industry!!!! ALL NEW training for everyone including the H.N.I.C!!!!

I feel very ignored and I feel the Health Care of San Joaquin is not one where you feel good about your health care, rather you feel like committing suicide. I have a tumor or a mass in my head and leg pain and I have had these symptoms for five years and never really got the care I need. I am at the point where I will Sui someone here...
