Ive been sitting on this review for about a week. I didnt want to write it heated, but I also feel like it needs to be written. Some of this review will be based on speculation, and those parts will be clearly stated- but I will try to do my best to stick to facts. I brought my 3.5 year old French bulldog into this facility around 3 am 7/7/2017. He was vomiting, seemed lethargic. The vet looked at him and made a diagnosis of pancreatitis. Okay. I go to work thinking my babies being cured up and then I receive a call around 3pm notifying me that his symptoms still havent subsided and theyre now suspecting a foreign body. I ask what that means, and am told he needs surgery because theres no other option. I say okay, but can I see him first? Im told the surgery needs to be done quickly (not given a reason why). Yet Im still hesitant because the doctor performing the surgery was the same one that was up at 3 am when we got there. I ask her if shes okay to do the surgery because shes been up all night (and somewhat offended) she said of course. I tried to rush over to the hospital to see if I can see my baby boy anyways real quick, but they tell me hes already under anesthesia and Id have to wait. I go home to change and receive a call from the doctor saying surgery was great. Hes waking up now. Buttttt they couldnt find any foreign object. Theyre assuming what they saw on the X-ray was blood clots now. Which, Im a little irritated about - because my baby got cut open for nothing, it feels like to me. But, everything was positive and most importantly my baby is gonna be okay. I was told that I could see him, but its not advised as he needs his rest. I agree, because all I want is for him to come home as soon as possible. I also lay down, and wake up to a call an hour later telling me that Brunos heart had stopped.... Theyve done everything they could to revive him but hes just living on machines right now. They noticed blood coming from his mouth about 30 minutes after surgery. They told me they dont know what happened. And heres where the speculation comes in, that Im sure I dont even have to spell out In trying to ease my pain they tell me the surgery was great, it was only 45 minutes.... ONLY 45 minutes to cut my dog open, dig around in his intestines and close him up. But youre not sure why hes bleeding from the mouth...? All I KNOW is that I brought my baby in to this establishment and hes leaving in an urn. No one can tell me why, and I paid $3,200 for that service...

My cat Skyler started showing signs of a UTI back in May, so we brought her in. She was grumpy, I was in tears (I received her for my 10th birthday back in 2009 and she is my best friend), but the nurses were great. Sky was prescribed some antibiotics, symptoms faded for about two weeks, then started up again. We brought her in and an X-ray showed hundreds of bladder stones. Without hesitating, they brought her in for surgery that night and she has been feeling much better since. They now prescribe special food for her and have been amazing with her aftercare. MPV took great care of my baby and shes happier and eating healthier than ever before! Throughout the whole thing, I was kept informed via text, call, and email. They were so gentle and kind with my girl and I would trust them with her a thousand more times. They really love and value our pets just as much as we do. Sky didnt even seem nervous when we went back to have her stitches removed! I feel very secure knowing this facility is open for my best friend and me 24 hours a day. We are so grateful!

The care given to your pets is obviously outstanding. I wasnt visiting while they were ill because I literally couldnt handle my emotions. Ive had them since pups and was actually quite surprised when I picked them up that they werent as excited to see me as our usual morning routine. They kissed me and let me love them up but I realized I missed and hurt for them more than they did. It looked like they wanted to stay!! They had been their almost two weeks and were very happy and cared for. It took a couple of days for them to be the same fun loving puppies happy to be home!! I know they were very loved and cared for there. Although it was quite pricey, I love the way they had the best care. All of my anguish was just mine.

Our Border Collie mix ended up with a foxtail up his nose on a Friday, after our vet had closed. We tried going to our usual emergency vet down the street; however, they were so busy they wouldnt have been able to see him for 2 hours! They actually suggested we try Monterey Peninsula Vet. We had no idea MPV even existed nor what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The first thing we noticed was how very calm it was in their office-including the vet herself. They were able to get our situation taken care of in less than an hour. They helped to make a very traumatic episode much easier to deal with. I would definitely go back to them in another emergency situation.

This place ONLY cares about money! We came in with our 2 year old Min Pin that ate some poison and they would not treat our baby without us paying $989.00! We asked if we could pay them half of that and they gave us back our girl and said NO. We frantically called other pet hospitals and found Pet Specialists of Monterey on Canyon Del Rey who charged us $350 for the same care. The Dr. at this place in Ryan Ranch was a blonde that was rude and smelled like cigarettes! This place and its staff does not care about animals, they only want your money. STAY AWAY FROM THESE HEARTLESS PEOPLE!

My kitty, Bear, experienced urinary retention after surgery. Dr. Harris was gracious in easing my mind that Bear would receive the care he needed when he was admitted. Bear was at the hospital for 2 days and 2 nights. All the staff were caring, professional and friendly. Adrian and Erika were 2 staff members that I dealt with the most. They were awesome and I thank them for making Bears stay a positive event. I cant recommend Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Specialists enough. Thank you so much to all of the Team. Bear is doing great!

I took Yo in cause my big dog Tana bit him (hes little). Yo is a bit of a pain, he bites and snarls at everyone. The crew and Doc at MPV were absolutely fantastic. They took him while snarling and were able to calm him down enough to shave the site and check the bite. Didnt need stitches and they assured me he would be fine. They were right! Gave me some antibiotics to give him and he healed up just fine. My 2 visits also didnt cost me a fortune like vet visits have cost at other places. I would definitely recommend MPV.

This is the second time we have had to use Monterey Peninsula Veterinary Emergency and both times we have had the best care. Not only are they caring and knowledgeable, but they are personable as well and are open to trying different methods to help their clients. We love that they are connected with our primary vet and the follow through with the notes and updates that are sent to our Vet is a relief to know that everyone is on the same page. If there is an emergency or specialty care needed we will go her always.
