my experience from 2013-I planned to NOT review woodminster after poor experience a few years ago, but since I just received an email asking me to rate them on yelp unless its bad, and then could I just tell them directly instead of rating them on yelp, I decided enough was enough. Most important, the veterinary care was fine. I did wait two hours with my cat in the lobby past time of appointment, had to go to work, and left him longer so staff could clean his ears. returned to a big bill, no ears cleaned, had to call back rework bill. had other experiences similarly. No one could identify the bright red larvae of the harvest mite/chigger poking out of my cats hide that was causing puss and irritation. Additionally I believed my cats had ear mites which the vets disagreed with. My boy cat had a terrible ear infection and was very sick, you could hear the fluid inside when he shook his head, so he was treated with ear drops that kind of helped. The staff was untimely with callbacks and prescriptions, I had to cb many times to get directions on the prescription, it was pretty annoying. My cat didnt really get better either, until i used zymox, which is an over the counter steroid drop that supposedly has helpful enymes in it, and I found that online. Back to the earmites-Im certain ear mites caused a reaction in my maine coon boy cats ear to start infection, bc my other cats had earmites and were scratchy (new woodsy home w/ lots of wild critters). He always reacts differently to allergens than my other short hair tabbies, and his brown ear goo wasnt as bad but it was still ear goo. I researched and found ivermectin applied to cats for earmites is common in catteries, and i asked vet about new products containing ivermectin but since not fda approved unable to prescribe. You can use revolution every three weeks to break the ear mite cycle as well. I ended up buying ivermectin from jeffers livestock and applying 3ccs to each cat to control ear mites. ivermectin is a parasite/wormer and kills various invertebrates that have no blood brain barrier thus worms, mites, but not fleas. so hopefully it was killing tapeworm but I dont know. Thats why I see a vet, so i can do research and he can tell me if Im being stupid, but thats the primary skill of a vet besides medicine, COMMUNICATION and FOLLOW UP. otherwise your business is a disaster. Anyways, I believe the vets are caring about animals and competent, the front desk staff was sugar sweet, there were logistically a nightmare to deal with, but maybe thats changed.

So very close by. Such a caring & knowledgeable staff and veterinarians always willing to go the extra mile and willing to take the time to explain and re-explain if need-be things to you . PLUS it is such a very comfortable place to take your pet since its located at the back of a little trafficked loop street to take your pet for a pleasant walk before or after their appointment..The quiet location is a huge plus for me, as when Im taking my pup to the Vet shes already stressed (and so am I! smile) if shes not feeling well or is just going to get her annual shots(she seems to know when). It so nice to not have to look for parking and then not to have to get out of my car onto a busy street. Their hours are great and their prices seem to be competitive as well. You can grab a burger(the best youll ever find!) at Woodminster Cafe. AND there is a hardware store directly across the street too!; you can run off to for all the things youve forgotten to get when at Home Depot! This is all you have to remember to find this quiet stress free location: Simply enter from Mountain Blvd, just remember to enter from the correct end of the loop going between the Round Table Pizza on one side and the little market on the opposite side of the street(at this point it is 2 way but when you go to exit on other side of loop you are heading the correct way when it become 1 way). The office is on the left & parking lot is on right a little ahead.

I am so grateful to Woodminster Veterinary Hospital for their excellent care for my formerly feral cat. I took him to another vet in an emergency (that was open midnight) and they said he would die without a risky thousand dollar transfusion and maybe even then. They wouldnt consider any other treatment for his blood parasite. Not even palliative care. When he survived the night, the next day the vet at Woodminster said we could try something else and worked out a treatment where they cared for him during the day with IVs when I was working and I took him home every night. Three days later the parasite was dead and my cat was alive and better. And for far less than the risky transfusion. I appreciated her cleverness and willingness to think outside the box. And I love my cat but money and taking time off work were issues for me as they are for many of us. I also appreciated that they did not make me feel like a bad owner for considering cost when choosing treatment. My cat and I are living happily ever after.

Ear Cropping: Took my Mastiff / Pit in for ear cropping he was 5 months old. The tips came out perfect and the ears look so cool! Looks like they had some trouble cutting near the cartilage, but I heard this is normal when the dogs get too old. So the back of one of the ears is less perfect than the other one, looks like a chunk missing about the size of a macaroni noodle and the other ear has a little extra bump the size of a bb on the edge, no big deal. However 2 weeks have just passed and the ears are almost fully healed and i am very happy with the final outcome. The missing chunk just ads some character in my opinion. Looks like he was in a fight. But who knows as things heal the ears keep looking better and better. At first sight they looked totally un even , but as time passed they got more even and more even. They might just need more time to heal and work themselves out. The girl that works the front desk is really cute.

So far this has been the only vet clinic Ive been to where the staff seemed to genuinely care about my dogs. We dealt with a tricky skin condition for one of my dogs and while it did involve a lot of trial and error, I could tell the staff really wanted my dog to be healthy and comfortable. On top of that, nearly everyone there has been super friendly and very supportive. Dr. Odar really listens, does her research, and her calm demeanor is ideal for nervous pets (and pet owners!). Ive already recommended this place to a few friends. I have to say the biggest downside is the parking situation. Its a tiny neighborhood with 2 or 3 spots designated for the vet clinic, and most of the street parking has meters. God forbid you park for a half hour at the salon across the street-- emergency or not they WILL try to tow your car :/ Anyway, my general experience here has been a very positive one.

I have used the Woodminster vet for a number of our pets and I have always had a good experience with everyone in the hospital. From the receptionist, to the nurses to the doctors, everyone is kind, gentle, professional, knowledgable, and treated my pets with love and care and exceptional service, every single time!!. My oldest dog had some tumors removed. He was treated gently and kindly, and he endured the procedures very successfully and easily. My cat had to have most her teeth removed, they did the extractions quickly and successfully. She has recovered 110%. I love the fact that their hours are late during the week, and open on the weekends. Very user friendly for animal owners, because it seems they never get sick between 9-5, just like children! If you need a great vet experience this is the place to go. Always, always tremendously great care and service.
