More interest was in selling botox than my skin cancer check and mole map. Wanted to get a check of a few moles and get a mole map done. This is the recommended thing to have done if you have any skin cancer in the family, have lived in countries with high risk or outdoor lifestyle. I have all of these. Doctor spent less than 5 minutes. More time spent with a junior assistant. He was dismissive about the moles I had – one on foot base – again a high risk area. When I asked for a mole map to be done he asked what a mole map was! Are you kidding! I said I wanted one done and the measurements and/or photos of a few moles to keep an eye on as is recommended by reputable dermatologists. Dr Charles Fishman said I should do this map and measurements or photos myself. He was more interested in talking about his own outdoor interests. Did not seem interested in my dermatological health. I did not feel comfortable with his skill, experience, expertise or bedside manner and would not be comfortable having my long term health in his hands. When I went to leave I was accosted by the receptionist and asked if I wanted to book in for some botox. I was surprised. She said she had it and it was great. She then told me there was a cheaper deal if I got a whole series of them. I said what about side effects. She said there was none and she never had any problems and that it was quite safe. It was totally inappropriate for a totally unqualified receptionist to be doing such sale and marketing and to do a hard sell on such a product that is one of the most lethal substances. And to be asserting that it is totally safe without any side effects as if she has any expertise. Very irresponsible and unprofessional behaviour. My estimation of the clinic and doctor was even further lowered.

This office is definitely that of a specialists. They do not care about providing quality healthcare. They are obviously an office hell-bent on raising the daily production numbers. In short, they are very profit driven. I cannot believe how snooty, rude and unfriendly Dr Fishmans staff is, and given that is a product of his leadership and hiring, I hold him responsible. Dr. Fishman is probably a fine clinician; however, he seems totally rushed and most of his discussion during my procedure was directed solely towards his assistants. He kept up a self-congratulatory attitude during my entire procedure and completely ignored the fact that he was causing me much pain. When I asked about local anesthetic he said " I dont need it." Well, that made one of us. He later dismissed my discomfort with a comment about the needles he was using, saying "they must have been a bad batch of dull needles". Say What?! Anyway, my appointment started 45 minutes late and his staff was rushed because my procedure was robbing them of a more important lunch break. When the procedure was over, Dr. Fishman asked his assistant to help me put on my pressure stockings; however, she told him she could not help and then vacated the premises. In fact, everyone had disappeared from the office when I emerged from my room. I made my way alone to the front desk where I was greeted by a non-plussed staff person who asked for payment as if I was a criminal. Ugh! I am supposed to go back to this office for a recheck, but I will never return. I hope this review saves someone from having the same uncomfortable experience. Go somewhere else!

Dr. Fishman is a cruel person. I am over weight, and I am well aware of this as I have struggled with this my whole life. On my first visit Dr. Fishman made rude comments about my weight including, "youre OBVIOUSLY over weight, anyone can see that", I was there for him to treat my psoriasis. So, I dismissed this and assumed I was being sensitive and went back for another visit. On my second visit, in between him trying to convince me to take a new very expensive injectable medicine that just became available and that I did not want to take, he made more rude comments about my weight. The most appalling was when he asked if I had tried walking for weight loss reasons and I replied yes, that I walk a mile twice a day, and he proceeded to say "well maybe you should try walking AWAY FROM THE REFRIGERATOR!" And as I sat there choking back tears, he hysterically laughed at his own joke. Words cant describe the humiliation I felt, and to make it worse he did this in front of his assistant who didnt seemed bothered at all by his behavior. I couldnt even hold back my tears long enough to leave the building. Since this awful experience I have been seen at West Dermatology, also in SLO, they have been very kind and caring.

Always meets my skincare needs~ Fishman and staff get the job done and foster a conservative approach to dermatology. (I recommend GARY WESTBROCK the PA here)
