Dr. Blackheart and nurses are great but the billing department are unprofessional, cold, and unsympathetic. Before I started light therapy in fall 2014, I called my insurance company to make sure it was covered. They called and confirmed with the office that it was, so I started weekly treatment from Sept to April. 3-4 months in, the first rejection of benefits arrived from the insurance co. I worked closely with the billing dept for many months as I contested with the insurance company, paying my co-pays throughout the months of treatment. Insurance reluctantly and slowly paid. They missed a payment or two in the confusion so I was sent to collections and dropped as a patient of the practice. The billing department was completely rude and NOT understanding of the situation. At the VERY end or the ordeal, they said I should have paid, then have insurance reimburse me. Maybe they should have told me that LONG before so I could remain a patient. I now have new insurance, called to see if they would take me back and the nasty billing lady said no and there is no way to contest it. She did not want to hear my story. This is the only derm in town with a light therapy box. I just want to warn people about the horrible and cold-blooded billing department.

I take my daughter here and we receive great care. We see Dr. Shackleton- he is really good and takes the time to answer all of my questions without making me feel like I am rushed. My 5 yr old is really comfortable under his care too. Staff is great and I never have to wait too long at all. I dont think this place is a rip off at all (like some people say) There are so many insurance companies, its up to you to know what is covered and what isnt, not them. You always have the right to check whats covered and come back or call your insurance ahead of time. EDIT- Medical staff is great. Front desk, not so much. I was having a bad day and asked a simple question and received a horrible answer. When I told her I wasnt happy with her just flat out saying "no" in such a rude and unhelpful way, she stuttered and claimed thats not what she said. Last time I checked, customer service is suppose to be number one when working with the public. I guess not here. I wish I wouldve remembered her name because I would have complained to her manager.

This place is first and foremost a business like a restaurant that aims for high table turnover. I feel sorry for the medical staff that are trying to help people but cant or wont spend enough time with patients to keep the schedule on time. Dont expect time for questions or to get educated about your health. You will blow the minds of the admin staff if you dont give them your SSN because you dont trust their computers and EMR system. Id be surprised if the business pays computer security staff to watch the back end for anything other that compliance reasons, if that. If it wasnt for the personal recommendation from a trusted friend for one of the docs here, Id go somewhere else. You can feel the stress and tension of the staff when you walk in the door.

I wish I could share something positive. I strongly do not recommend Tammy Van Dyke, a physicians assistant. She is not familiar with a very common skin disease called Hidrenitis supportiva. I am very disappointed with her verbal abilities, stating my case is challenging - then even negating it was HS to begin with. She has her assistant Nina run around like a chicken with her head cut off. First they said they would get me a script from GenRX, then they said they couldnt - then they sent the script to the wrong CVS after correcting them 3 times. Very disjointed place. If you have HS, see someone else there or go somewhere else altogether. If I messed up like they have at my job, Id be fired. Very dissatisfied indeed!

The "scheduling" department was extremely rude to me over the phone. When I came in for the appointment the front office staff treated myself and other clients simply as a "specimen". There was no welcoming or warmness in their tone at all. The same is the case for the room assistants- it was as if I was an inconvenience to them. I was uncomfortable about the procedure being performed and the staff couldn’t have cared less. I work in the medical field myself and I am disgusted by the way the entire staff functions with zero compassion for the patients. I will without a doubt not be returning to your office and will definitely not recommend your practice to others.

The negative reviews online surprised me a bit. Yes it is a long wait to get in and the scheduling department is not ideal but I will continue to go here because the providers are excellent. My PA Sheila is professional, so personable, and the most thorough dermatology provider I have ever been to. She truly listened to my concerns and treated me with kindness. I also saw Dr. Kiene and was impressed with the time he spent to educate me. I felt very well cared for. Very competent, warm, friendly Doctor. I believe I received excellent care from this office and recommend them highly to my friends and family. I feel thankful to have found them!

These people are terrible. I went for an initial appointment 9 months ago to have a small skin tag removed from my face. The procedure didnt work. When I called later to get another appt, I couldnt get in until 6 weeks later. When I went to the appt, I had to wait 45 minutes past my appointment time (no explanation given). Finally I told them I was on a schedule and wondered when I would get in. Bottom line was I would have another 45 minutes to wait. When I tried to reschedule (I couldnt wait another 45 min) they told me I wouldnt be able to get in for another 7 weeks. Dont go here if you can avoid it, they suck.

My Doctor, the assistant and the girl that checked me in where all great and professional. I was really worried about cancer as i had a mole that was getting bigger, and they made me feel comfortable about the situation. I cant say the for the billing department. Jesus what a bunch of rude ladies. They really need to take some classes on how to talk to people. I would give more than 2 stars if it wasnt for this. Fix this issue and I might consider continuing being a patient here.

Perhaps, it would be worth the wait even if the wait is longer than you want. It might be good to make an appointment and be put on a cancellation list, to be called if there is a cancellation. The respect, service, concern and friendly attitude of all the Doctors and staff has been great. I had skin cancer and they were very diligent at getting it all, 2 years ago. I am Thankful and appreciative. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. Thank you all.

Wish I would have read your reviews before scheduling an appointment (which took months to get) as they are pretty on point. The billing department is super rude. If I would have to guess a good majority of your clients are worried about cancer and shouldnt have to be worried about payments on top of it. The one star is only because I liked my doctor and he was very professional other than that terrible! I will not be coming back.
