Let me start off by saying I own 5 dogs and have worked with many different veterinarians in the past and have NEVER had a horrific experience like the one I had with Garza Veterinary Clinic. I initially came in to get a physical exam and rabies shot on a pitbull that I am fostering. He had been having a little trouble with his back hind leg and I made sure to inform the vet of this issue. I also expressed that I wanted to get an estimate for a neuter surgery since the rescue group I work with requires him to be neutered before placing him in a permanent home. Both the vet and the technician didnt seem to think anything of his leg, the vet stated I shouldnt be too concerned, and told me he should heal on his own. Of course, me trusting the vet, I was pleased to hear this and they proceeded to get his rabies shot ready. The technician then came in with a second tech and administered the RABIES shot. I have never seen this done by a technician. The vet literally spent about 5 min in the room and I never saw her again. They made sure to get my estimate ready and I was on my way. I called a few days later to schedule his surgery and stated to them that the rescue group would be paying for this, and they would also like to add a microchip at the time of surgery. The morning of the surgery I consulted with a different technician about his leg again, she stated she would let the veterinarian know and would call me to let me know if he recommends anything for it. At the time of drop off they decide to try to add-on and upcharge me $60 for a skin removal that she says is recommended for big dogs when they get neutered......ummmmm why didnt anyone say anything about this before? He was a big dog at the first visit and the same size on the day of surgery. I have had my german shepherd neutered before (bigger than this pitbull) and have never heard anything about a skin removal. Of course, this is just a way for Dr. Garza to gain more profit, recommending additional, unnecessary things. I declined. Later that afternoon I get a call from Dr. Garza himself and he lets me know he recommends an x-ray for his leg and it would be $85. He said "Baby, this dog needs an x-ray, I really recommend it." BABY? I am not your baby, you are a professional, at least speak like one. And why didnt the vet that initially examined him recommend this and why did she say he would heal on his own? But okay, I agreed. My stepdad was the one who went to pick him up that evening. They ended up charging him $40 more for some antibiotics that the tech blatantly lied and said I approved of and wanted. THAT WAS A COMPLETE LIE. My stepdad never imagined they would lie about that so he paid for it. Dr. Garza goes over the x-ray images and then states the dog has a broken hip and hip dysplasia. He even says "you can see one leg is bigger than the other." IF YOU SAW THIS THEN WHY WAS THAT NOT EXPRESSED INITIALLY and why did you wait until after he was neutered and microchipped to point that out to us? WHY? Because he knew we wouldnt get him neutered if we knew there was a bigger issue. He even went on to say "most people dont end up getting the hip surgery because its thousands of dollars." Basically insinuating that theres not hope for him. What an INSENSITIVE, CARELESS, PROFIT-HUNGRY jerk!!! I will NEVER give them a DIME of my money again and I will make sure to let everyone I know of this gross establishment. I am currently waiting to hear back from him about this extra $40 medication that I never approved of and will make sure to get my money back. Please save yourself the time and money and do not go here.

My German Shepherds life was cut short due to negligence and incompetent care rendered by Dr. Garza and tech. We went to the clinic January 26, 2015 for management of my canines left hind leg weakness. He was still walking although wobbly through the door when we were called to be seen. Dr. Garza said he needs x-ray and needs to be sedated. After it was done, my dog could no longer stand. They told me that was the effect of the anesthesia and just to wait for a few minutes for it to wear off. Dr. Garza said a few times its not for him to be rude but advised us to put the dog to sleep. I was shocked when he suggested that without even discussing first treatment option. He then suggested MRI and ordered dexamethasone injection plus oral prednisone for home medication. Its been a while since we waited but my dog still could not lift his hind legs when he tried to stand up. They had to carry him in a blanket back to our car. He was not able to return to his previous condition again after the clinic visit. I was thinking they must have done something like over manipulation of my dogs legs during x-rays adding more insult to injury. He tried to walk but due to the pressure of his heavy body and now non-functioning left leg, he sprained his good right leg. My dog was in pain so I asked for something for his sprained leg on February 7, 2015. Dr. Garza prescribed metacam. The tech told me theres no "side effect" when I asked her about it and okay if given without food. On February 11, 2015, 5 days after taking the medication, my dog had severe frequent large bright red bloody diarrhea. I cried so hard for what my dog has been through. The emergency room vet said prednisone and metacam should not be taken together because they will cause abdominal bleeding. How would you feel if the ones you entrusted the care for your beloved dog dont know what theyre doing? They dont update their knowledge about drug interaction and maybe other things. My dogs life ended February 11, 2015 barely three weeks after he was seen by garza. Im in deep mourning and suffering with great pain and sorrow for losing my beloved dog who had given us much joy in our lives. He was not just like any other dog. He interacted with us in a very special and caring way that made us feel like hes human. I feel I have to do something to justify my dogs untimely death thats why Im writing this review and to warn other pet owners not to go to garza vet clinic.

My daughter called and spoke to the clinic staff to insure that they could see her extremely ill cat on an emergency basis, in other words immediately upon arrival. The cat had a urinary tract blockage and was in bad shape. When we arrived we waited for over twenty minutes before we were seen, the cat was in terrible distress the entire time. None of the staff made any effort to get us in quickly. Sadly the cat died in her arms as we were taking him to the back to be examined. When the vet was finally pulled away from his computer to look at the (then) deceased cat he made all sorts of excuses that the cat would not have survived even if he had seen him immediately. I am sure he is correct. But there is no excuse for the lack of concern he or his staff showed for the cat or my daughter. Dr. Garza handled the body of the cat very roughly showing what had been wrong with him, which was further upsetting to both my daughter and myself. He went in to examine another animal and he and his staff left us standing there. Finally I got one of his staff to discuss the options for the body with me. All in all it was a terrible experience. I dont know if he is a good vet, he has a fancy, clean facility, however the lack of concern, compassion and kindness is deplorable. I would absolutely never recommend this place to anyone.
