I decided to come to this place because of decent reviews on Yelp and they gave me good prices on prescription products when I first called them on the phone. Unfortunately, they make up for what theyre not making for regular prescription items by pushing for all sorts of unnecessary AND costly tests and other medications. I dont feel like either doctors really listened to me when I talked to them. Ive bought two pets there, one of which died there (while I certainly understand that its possible for pets to die at the vet and their condition may be beyond saving, I honestly felt like they havent done enough.). For one of them, they contracted a highly contagious disease which we took her to an emergency vet for before we brought her in M& T during the following morning. Strike 1: They did not separate her unlike the emergency clinic which isolated her from other pets even after we told them what it is. Strike 2: They did not clean the instrument in the room after they place the pet on it. Sometimes when were waiting in the room, I could see telltale signs of their previous patients (hair, marks on equipment). Strike 3: They brushed us off by saying that we didnt understand after we inquired about the tests (all of which were done at the em vet in less than 24 hours and they had results of) and disagree with them. With the other pet, after the doctor asked me to starve my pet for a day for an ultrasound (it had a chronic condition that depressed her appetite making her extremely thin already. It was painful to starve her. ) and shell out 600 dollars (another vet told me that an ultrasound might give them a better idea of what caused the condition but it wouldnt change treatment. I decided to go along with it to see they can do better), they just casually recommended that I should euthanize her or replace her organ (which runs up to roughly $14,000 and more [cha-ching!] btw and while I love my pet to bits, I wont rob another living animals [usually they take from strays] an organ to give to her) even she was at a stable and managable stage according to another vet that we went to regularly to before we moved less than a month before. All I wanted was to give my pet the best quality of life and the medical care she deserved for the remaining of her numbered days as I could give her. Im glad I didnt listen to the recommendation as my pet (now passed away) and I had some of our best days afterward. This place came off to me as cold and unprofessional and I wont be taking any animals there again. By the way, I suspect a lot of the good reviews on lots of review pages are written by themselves to boost the ratings as you can tell by the one liners and familiarity with the names of the assistants (I went to the place every week for a while and even I couldnt name them all and I do have a good memory). Im willing to spend thousands and thousands on my pets as they are dear to me as my family and I had already but Im not willing to be robbed blind unnecessary.

I have been a client of Dr. Kays for over 13 years. My two cats have had a series of illnesses and I am pleased to say they are still thriving today. One is 18 and the other is 15. Our pets cannot tell us what is wrong, so we have to speak for them, any change of behaviors or abnormal symptoms. Dr. Kay has always listened intently to put the pieces of a puzzle together to get on the right diagnosis path. The other tools needed by any Vet to work towards a diagnosis and or treatment plan is blood work and urine, sometimes X-rays and thank goodness his hospital also has ultrasound equipment. Dr. Kay on several occasions went out his way to research on one of my pets illnesses. He networked with other veterinarians to review my pets case. Dr. Kay goes the extra mile to ensure he is providing excellent medical care. I read a review complaining of having to wait a long time even with a scheduled appointment, Emergencies happen to other peoples pets. Pets do not schedule their emergencies. I have had to wait a couple of times and understand when an animal has come in due to being hit by a car, or extreme illness and needs to be given attention immediately. I am willing to wait knowing if my pet had an emergency that they will also get treated immediately. For those who do not like waiting, maybe you should get a gold fish. Dr. Kays pricing is reasonable. Medicine costs money. Dr. Kays goal is to always practice exceptional medicine. Medicine can be complicated. His hospital is not in the business of charging for unnecessary tests or treatment, rather to give the pet the best treatment available. His staff, from the front office to the vet techs are FABULOUS. The Macy and Thomas facility has laser therapy which has been a blessing for my oldest cat. He does have arthritic flare ups and a few sessions of laser therapy gets him back to being physically active and happy. Dr.s are people too. Sometimes they have a not so good day. If you feel you do not have the Dr.s attention, then address the issue. If treatment is explained to you and you dont fully get it, then you need to ask more questions. If you think the treatment is too expensive, discuss if there are other alternatives.

Weve been taking our dog here for a few years. Dr. Kay administered competent care and our dog responded positively to him. The front desk staff were prompt and attentive. Having said that, my wife and I felt nickel-and-dimed literally every time we’ve gone there. I understand it’s a business, but I have never been to a vet that works so hard to make money off of our love for our dog. We’re now looking for a new vet. Our experience: staff provides a statement with the requested procedure as well as several expensive "recommended" procedures. After declining services we did not come for in the first place, the vet comes in, explains why its in the best interest of our dog to subject her to these additional procedures, and tries to guilt-trip us with “what if” worst-case scenarios so that we’ll pay for them. I fell for this once and it cost $300 to find out that my dog who wasn’t sick produced “normal” labs. The last visit ended with us refusing – not exaggerating – just over $700 in recommended labs, procedure and precautionary anesthesia costs. I called them on it; they said the estimate was comprehensive and it may not actually cost us that much. NO – we already declined! But wait, there’s more! The staff tried to sell my wife on dental care products, prescription dog food AND flea medication while checking out! They’re relentless and not worth the headache!

Our HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE We took our 2 dogs to get rabies before boarding them at a house. The staff mentioned they did boarding and it seemed like a reasonable price. Also, said they could board our cats. They knew wed be gone for 6 days. After a couple days the called telling us our dogs were being aggressive, they couldnt get into cage and they were chewing on the cage. Unbelievable, knowing we are 100 of miles away and cant do anything.... they said "we can sedate them." Yea, u guessed it... we said ok sedate them. More $$ in their pockets. Get a call back a day later about one of the cats wont eat. Wonder the entire time what is going on. At the time we picked our pets up, one cat seemed almost dead and when they brought one of our dogs out.. Mind you they said they were unable to get into cage he came out on the leash right up to us and gave us love... the cat wouldnt come out and acted like a total wild cat. Funny when we got there, my mom said "oh this place, if I knew it was this place I wouldnt have come." She remember the name from when they were located uptown Whittier and she had a bad experience then. Just going in for rabies about $60 turned into over $668.00. Minus the $360 for boarding and rabies... GOT US $260.00 BEWARE
