We brought our dog in for his yearly Lyme shot. We were told when we came in that our 10:00 am appointment was actually for 10:30 after having it confirmed with the reception prior for 10:00 am. Then the receptionist named Karen rudely informed me that my dog was due for more than just his Lyme shot. We had informed her that we had already gotten the other vaccine taken care of and she asked for documentation. Suffield Vet is no longer our primary care vet for our dog as we live out of state. We were home visiting and with the location being so close we decided to get this shot out of the way. She then inquired if he would be getting his annual and heart worm test done because those were coming due in August. I had already informed her of our needs and plans but she felt the need to continue to offer services that we already have taken care of or are following up with upon our return to our current place of residence. Once the 21 questions were over we sat and waited to be seen. Once in the exam room we were asked yet again about all his other out of date shots and needs. We expressed our desire to just get the Lyme shot as requested when we made our appointment. The vet tech came in with the shot 30 seconds later at 10:07 am and we were out the door and back to Karen at 10:08 am to pay for the service. She didnt greet us just informed us it would be 59.25. We were taken back because our dog had just gotten one shot. I inquired why the price was so high and was ensuring we had not paid for other services we did not get. She rudely replied that we had to pay for the shot, the waste, and for the tech to administer it. I am baffled by the price of having a vet tech administer the shot...32.68 for the 1 year vaccine (Lyme), 22.72 for the shot to be administered, 3.85 for that one needle to be disposed of, but hey on the bright side they weighed him for FREE! I am confused as to why I had to pay this person to be in a room with us for less than a minute to administer the shot. I will not be returning to Suffield Vet. I would recommend doing research and finding a vet who offers more affordable rates, kinder front desk staff, and techs that can be more patient with the owners and pets as we are paying them 22.72.

I was quite disappointed with my overall experience. Having been a (then) "new" customer (although no longer), I was not able to keep my appointment because the vet refused to keep his/her appointment with us. My mother and I and Henry (our 20 month old hamster) waited for nearly 40 min in the reception area before we had to leave. I filled out the form online the week before which was pointless because I had to fill it out again after waiting sometime. One of the women in the front needed me to spell "Syrian" since she didnt know it which was surprising considering one of the below reviews stating this is a good hospital for small animals and the reference I got from the Southwick Animal hospital. After having left the office, a woman told my mom that we could actually see a vet then, but I refused to go back in. I havent been to many vet offices but this one had some blood on the floor in the reception during the time I visited. I really wish I could give a review as to the care of the vet, but knowing what I know now Im guessing it probably wouldnt have been very good since I wanted them to clip Henrys overgrown nails on his hind legs, and they didnt have enough time to do that (although they did have some time to give my mom two of their business cards while we were waiting ironically)

I had a horrible experience with the Suffield Veterinarian Hospital. They lack compassion for the animal & have a dictator style approach (very cold & black and white). Didnt listen to client, who lives with the animal & is there to be the animals advocate. The directions on medicine were different than what the vet tech reported from vet. No follow up. No- Im sorry. Just was overall unprofessional, in my opinion. My rescue dog who had come w fear aggressive (that has been worked on) is now fearful of vets, which I have to work on reverting. They gave him xanax, which made my dog super excited for the entire day. (Opposite effect that its suppose to have.) And they still wanted me to give the xanax on the next visit. Maybe we could have tried a lower dose or a different medication, but no other option was made. They made a huge deal about my dogs behavior, which was partially from being on the Xanax (extra excitable). The vet tech stated that shes not sure why everyone is fussing about his behavior, he did fine for us when having xrays and blood drawn. I have since gone to another vet, and it was night and day experience. Thankfully...

Suffield Vet is great. The vets and the entire staff know our dog by name when we come in and take really good care of him while hes there. We recently had to have him put down, and the vets and techs all came in to say goodbye to him when we were there. They sent us a card via mail a few days later. Everyone here is super compassionate. I know that our pwts in good hands if they need an overnight appointment, and their emergency appointments have always been same day whenever Ive needed one. My family has been going here for about 30 years, and we know all the staff. Once we got a new dog, everyone came out to say hello and get to know her. They also treat exotics, horses, and some farm animals. I bring my Amazon parrot to be treated here, and the vet that specializes in parrots does a great job with her. In the past, theyve also seen a couple of my chickens.

I have taken all my pets (dogs and rabbits) to Suffield Vet and have experience with many of the doctors and techs. They are all passionate with what they do and want the best care for your pets. If you have an issue that needs attention they work with you to get your pet in as soon as possible. They have events like Yappy Hour where you can tour the facility, see the new technology, meet the staff and see a presentation of the PD canines. I will continue to bring my pets here! Also, remember that this is medicine. You have to pay for vaccines, medications, assessments, disposables of needles, etc. Just like a human!

I was very happy with the service and care my dog received from Dr. Huntington. She came in on her day off to see my dog, explained everything in easy to understand language and answered all my questions. Office staff were friendly and efficient. Charges were reasonable. It was a 4 hour trip each way for me and worth every minute.

This is the best vet hospital we have been to! The have a large waiting room and caring doctors! Our bunny and dog have both gone here, and we always have a positive experience! They have many repeat customers...need to book ahead since they fill up!
