Today, June 05th, I went to the Kent ER on South State Street. I was sent over by my PCP for dehydration and treatment for salmonella contracted from undercooked chicken. I arrived at 10:30 am and was not addressed until 3:30 pm when I went to the sign-in desk to ask why I was still sitting in the waiting room when people who had come in up to 2 hours after me had been taken to rooms. *Might I add that your system is more than flawed. They were calling the same name for hours when they had either been taken to a room, were with another medical professional or left to go to Milford. I would hope that an ER of your size would have a much more efficient way of documenting where patients are than what I witnessed today. Regardless, my reported symptoms upon arrival at 10:30 were: chest pains, chronic vomiting and diarrhea since 06/01, lightheadedness, headache, muscle cramps, abdominal cramps, and blurred vision (all classic symptoms for dehydration alone). When I addressed your hospital director and other staff members, I was told that I was not considered emergent and to sit down. When I showed the young woman at the sign-in that my hands had turned dark purple and that the cramps in my hands were so bad I could not straighten my fingers out, she got the attention of your less than sympathetic and empathetic hospital director, Sandee. Again, I was told it was not an emergency and that she would check my vitals for changes since my hands were visibly dark purple. Forty-five minutes later, Sandee emerged from her desk to take my vitals and told me that since I "only" had a stomachache, I was not an emergency (despite my obvious physical symptoms). I reiterated what my symptoms were and she told me that is not what she had documented and that I was not in an emergency situation. It wasnt until I asked her if chest pains alone were an emergency on top of the aforementioned symptoms of lightheadedness, blurred vision, muscle cramps, abdominal cramps, vomiting/diarrhea since 06/01 and headache. After 5 hours, I got the required EKG for any patient complaining of chest pains. I ended up leaving and going elsewhere for medical care. I was not apologized to by anyone in this hospital, except for Crystal, the professional who administered the EKG. She gave me more information in 5 minutes than anyone in the hospital gave me in 5 hours. This is more than disappointing and unacceptable. I was not treated as a patient in need, but rather a nuisance to Sandee. I realize you are servicing a lot of people and probably running on a skeleton staff, but when a patient comes in with the symptoms I that presented with, they need to be documented correctly, I do not need to be told I am the one reporting my symptoms incorrectly (I am the one experiencing the symptoms, I should know), and I deserve respect and sympathy. Your staff is not the only ones with trying jobs, but if they are going to service a large population on a daily basis, they might want to set their self-righteous, "Im better than you" attitudes aside. Without this population, people like Sandee would not have a job. In addition, I did receive medical attention elsewhere and it turns out that I am severely dehydrated and have salmonella.

Poor communication!!! Nasty Charge Nurse (Crystal ) I called to find out the status of my father who suffers from Parkinsons and dementia. After I was transfered to 3 people whom told me its not their job yo help me, I was connected to Crystal who then told me she was to busy and to call back like in 20 mins...so I understood, I called back about am hour and 10 mins lare gIvins her time..she said now what was it u wanted, i forgot....I explained my fathers situation and that when I called the day before and s/w the triage nurse I gave them my contact info which they never used nor was i ever called. I find out that my dad has been discharge and nobody knows where too. Last time he was there there they pushed him outside in a wheelchair with no socks, no shoes, in shorts. ( what he had on when the ambulance picked him up) and its 37 degrees outside!!!! I was pissed. Who does that??? Kent General E.R. does... ..back to Crystal, I ask if she can let me know where they took my father she said no...well I said who was notified or who signed him out because he doesnt even know who he is...she said well if u want to know u need to start calling all the medical facilities up north and ask if he has been admitted. ..so I said do I need to put a missing person report out, u guys were the last to know where he was, she says smart well why are u calling me u need to be calling the police if u want to do that. WTD !!! all I want to know is the well being and location of my FATHER! !!! MY NAME IS IN THE CONTACT INFORMATION IN HIS MEDICAL RECORDS. .....!! THEY HAVE CALLED ME BEFORE. .JESUS CHRIST! The last 2x he has been there has been a nightmare. I respect the jobs they do but and understand to a degree why somebody might blow u off because they are busy its the E.R. BUT..... just to be unprofessional and straight nasty. ...one word...KARMA! One day this Charge Nurse will be in my shoes and somebody will treat her just as nasty if not worse. .....wait for it...wait for it..it will happen. .But I do like to say there was one young lady that gave me her direct line....she was the most decent person I spoke with there I wish I got her name but being g transfered to everyone and they mama that said thats not my job....I didnt catch it....

If you want immediate attention, arrive in an ambulance!! I walked into the ER, waited 5 hours, walked out. I arrived in an ambulance and received immediate attention!! The doctor(s) were prepared and waiting for me in the ER thanks to the SUPERIOR COMMUNICATIONS between the paramedics and Bayhealth staff. As for rest of my stay, it was pleasant..All nurses and staff in my unit, on my floor, were extremely kind, thoughtful, and definitely knew their craft. And I give praise as they saved my life...literally...massive coronary. If I hadnt arrived in an ambulance would it all have gone so well??? I tend to think yes and hope I am right...

This is the worst hospital to go to. The ER is the WORST. They will tell you youre next for hours but will call others that came in after u first. Even if u have insurance. I went twice, for myself and for my baby. I ended up leaving both times after a 6 hour wait and went to another hospital. I mom went for very bad pains on her back and shoulder any of she was there from 6pm and didnt leave until 6 the next day. She didnt go back to see the Dr until 330 am. THE WORST HOSPITAL EVER!!!!!

Crazy...Loooong waits in emergency. I have taken my mom several times and each time an average wait time of 6 hrs. The president of the hospital needs to make some smart decisions and have a hospital that will serve the elderly and children first if they are at the same level of urgency as the others!! Crazy...Pick another hospital!
