A good friend recommended Dr. Patel, and I was pleased with my initial experience (taking my 16-year old daughter to have an unsightly mole removed from her hairline). I returned for a full body skin cancer check, along with my husband. Again, the initial experience was positive, in that we were seen right away and both of us had several moles removed (2 for me, 5 for him). When we checked out, the desk clerk gave us each an amount we owed, based on what our insurance would cover, and we paid as requested. When our insurance provider (BCBS-FL) sent us our statements a few weeks later, we noticed a discrepancy between what our insurance company had paid and what we had paid out of pocket (we were overcharged by the doctors office). It took several phone calls and lots of messages left for the billing person (Dr. Patels husband) before we were issued refund checks. Based on other patients comments about similar issues, I am tempted to view the business practices at this office as questionable. Also, I was told one of my moles did not have "clear margins". I returned to have that addressed. This was my first experience with Dr. Patel (previously an assistant served us). I was startled by her appearance because she had a lot of botox in her face. Once she learned I have teenaged children, she promoted her multi-week acne treatment to me (complete with specifics on cost and perceived benefits) the entire time she "operated" on my skin. I realize that Southside Dermatology is in the "spa" business, but I truly felt this was offensive and unnecessary, as I did nothing to indicate I was interested in any non-medical treatment, either for myself or for my children. This was my only experience at a dermatologists office. Perhaps because of the prevalence of age-defying treatments, this kind of thing is commonplace. Nonetheless I will not be returning.

Dr. Pentel and the staff at Southside Dermatology are phenomenal. My appointments are always on time and the staff is attentive, friendly, and helpful. I trust Dr. Pentel completely with my full-body checks, removals, and surgeries. I had surgery last Monday. She continuously made sure that I was comfortable with the procedure and gave clear instructions for post-surgery cleaning, medicine, and follow-up. I even left their office with instructions typed on a sheet of paper. Brittany assisted Dr. Pentel during the surgery and walked me out to the counter to make sure I was comfortable. Brittany also called the next day to check on me. I feel as though I know Dr. Pentel and Brittany on a personal level, after my last three visits, and trust their suggestions. My daily routine has changed since becoming a patient at Southside Dermatology. I now have better products for washing and moisturizing my face and arms, as well as using the right sunscreen for the best protection. I saw major results from the new products from Southside Dermatology and look forward to keeping my skin young and flawless for years to come. I would recommend Southside Dermatology to all of my family and friends.

I have given this office multiple chances. The staff is rude to patients, the place is dirty and they cant get their finances in order. Dr. Pentel is very nice, but that is the only thing going for this clinic. I went there for laser hair removal, they have two rooms for said procedures. Room A is a normal looking room, room B is messy and kinda gross for a doctors office. I did give a formal verbal and written complaint about this and they did clean it. I went for a follow up appointment and due to an error on my part had to cancel the appointment 3 days in advance. When I called to schedule they said I owed them money for canceling. I fought these charges and proved to them I canceled with in their time frame. My next appointment I tried to make they claimed I now needed to pay over the phone the co-pays, I had never done this before and will not start now. 16 months later I received a bill from them stating I owed the full balance, I called and told them i had the paid at the time of the visit in full and owed them nothing. I have mailed them copies of my credit card statement showing payment, and they would not accept this as proof.

VERY VERY POOR SERVICE DISHONEST DOCTOR MARY PENTEL DO NOT GO HERE !!!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY .................. CHARGED $1700 TO MESS UP MY FACE AND NOW I HAVE TO SPEND MORE TO FIX HER MISTAKES............ first of all charged me for 2 syringe when i had prepaid for only one , i have been complaining about this ever since they charged me and on top of that i have been dealing with the reaction of the product which is still standing i have even emailed them earlier and made many attempts of request of either fixing my problem or refunding me as i feel i have been cheated out of my money, they cant just treat me with 1 syringe of voluma and charge me for 2 this is bad business practice this is fraud. Dr mary pentel is a liar these people have no work ethics or morals they have cheated me out of my money and not providing the service as promised and also over charged me for and extra syringe. its a shame to see a doctor will stoop this low to make a quick buck!

I initially saw Dr. Pentel for what we think was a spider bite. It had become necrotic in just a day or two and I was understandably freaked out. Dr. Pentel was very reassuring, and prescribed what was necessary to take care of it, and provided thorough instructions on wound care so it would heal properly. I did as instructed, and it healed completely without any complications. Ive also seen Dr. Pentel for an adult acne flare-up, and to have a few suspicious leisions looked at. Its novel that when she does any biopsies, she also keeps an eye on the aesthetic side of things. Both Dr. Pentel and her staff were always helpful, professional, and pleasant. The wait time is sometimes a little longer than I would like, but in what medical office doesnt that happen? I can also say that Dr. Pentel has also done a lot of skin cancer care on my mom, and the care is excellent and any scarring is minimal.

Both my wife and I have been patients of Dr.Pentels...for medical procedures as well as cosmetic services.We moved to Florida permanently 21/2 years ago and were in need of a dermatologist.My wife researched extensively before booking a consultation. We have had frequent visits to her office for a wide variety of needs.The level of education and experience of Dr.Pentel is what initially brought us to the office but the positive experiences on many levels at Southside Dermatology will insure our loyalty.The atmosphere of appreciation for our presence combined with exceptional customer service and highly trained support staff make both medical issues and cosmetic interests frustration free. We would without reservation recommend Southside Dermatolgy .....we have many times and will continue to do so.This practice raises the level of service for the Jacksonville area.

I went to Southside Dermatology to have a spot on my skin checked. When I first got there, they numbed it (which hurt for about 5 seconds), then sliced it off really quickly, (I didnt feel a thing). They said I wouldnt hear from them if it was negative. If positive, theyd call me (which they did in 3 days). I had some issues with my insurance but Diane at the front desk straightened it out for me in a day. I was nervous but basically when I went back they did the same thing but had to keep checking it under a microscope to be sure to get it all. It took about 4 hours total, but it was not as big a deal as I had pictured it in my mind. Dr. Pentel has an easy going demeanor and was very friendly. I still have staples that need to come out, but after 24 hours I have absolutely no pain at all. Overall, Im very happy with my experiences with Southside Dermatology so far.
