I want to clarify my rating is not for Dr Pentel as a medical doctor. I can not speak to that. It appears her office is divided into a medical side ....and a spa side. I went to the spa side. My rating went from what would have probably been a 4 star to a1 star upon checking out /paying. I made an appointment after explaining in DETAIL what I was coming for. I was quoted a price for that service. Half way through the service the price was mentioned.....and was more than quoted. The tech was very good. So i was going to let it go. Upon checking out at the front desk I asked for clarification of why it was more than what I was quoted on the phone. I simply wanted to understand. She all but said I was lying about what I had been told, that NOBODY would have EVER quoted me that. All I got was "attitude" from this person. Very unprofessional and reflects badly on the business as a whole. I always tip 20% or more.....but I was TOLD 18.5% gratuity was being added.... regardless.....and I was told with the same attitude. Even though I liked the service performed by the tech.....I will not be going back due to that one front desk person. On that basis, I would not recommend.

Unfortunately, I went to see Dr. Pentel several times over the course of a year. I originally went for an initial "mole check" and at 33 years old, they hacked up my skin. I dont have a ton of freckles or moles, I just wanted to be proactive. They cut off 10, leaving circular scars everywhere. BUT, having said that, at that point I thought, maybe they were just being proactive as well. It wasnt until I met the accounts manager, who is Dr. Pentels husband apparently, that I was convinced to never, ever go back there. He was rude and over billed me on numerous accounts. When I confronted him to question this, he was obnoxious and completely disrespectful. I ended up having to call my insurance company to fight for me, which they did. He was CLEARLY in the wrong. It was like pulling teeth to get my money back and it was over $100, not 5 or 10 bucks. Since then, I know several people that have had terrible experiences there as well. I would NEVER go back! CROOKS!

I have been a patient of Dr. Pentals for several years. I came to her for a skin check, and she discovered a melanoma in the early stage. I have been seeing her every three months since then. I have complete confidence in her and her staff. Everyone is always professional and friendly, and Dr. Pental always takes time each visit to answer my questions and reassure me that everything is going OK. My only concern with the office is that I had some difficulties with billing. You are asked to pay at the time of your visit, and most of the time the amount I paid did not match what my insurance company said I owed. I did not want this problem to stop me from seeing Dr. Pental, so I requested to be billed so I had a chance to match their bill with my insurance EOB. Since then, I have had no problems. I have recommended Dr. Pental to several relatives and friends and will continue to do so.

Rude Staffs and a Very-Hard-to-Meet Doctor This place is popular and provides various cosmetic services in a separate section. I had acne problems and been there almost over a half year now. I havent met Dr. Pentel yet because her schedule was booked for a few months. Instead, I got to meet her PA who wanted to keep my visit as short as she can and the staffs at their front desk that I have met so far were generally rude. I should say that nurses and the person at the cosmetic section were much better. I dont recommend this place from my experience so far.

IMCO Meetings

Dr. Pentel and her medical staff at Southside Dermatology are top notch! Ive been a melanoma patient of their for 10+ years, and they do EVERYTHING to ensure I am well cared-for, my condition is proactively monitored and they always call me by name and leave me thinking positively AND feeling comfortable with my health. In addition to the scary part of my skin, sometimes I have a patch of something here or there that needs looking at, and the SD folks are consistently helpful with those, too. There is NO other dermatology center for me!

I didnt see the doctor, I saw the nurse, she gave me a prescription and told me the only pharmacy in Jacksonville that would fill it was the one they work with (WellHealthRx) the even printed me a map to go there and all. The price of the cream there: 85 bucks, I called CVS, they told me they could do it, but to save time, I should go straight to Preston Compound which is the one they use, cost of the cream there: 35 bucks. Needless to say, Im not going back... That kind of business attitude, gives me the creeps...

While vacationing in FL I had an aggressive SCC develop on my leg. Dr Pentel and her staff were excellent. I was given an appointment for the next work day when a biopsy was taken. When the results came back, I saw Dr. Pentel later that same day and a Mohs procedure was performed two days later. Dr Pentel and her staff were all very courteous, professional and friendly. I had full confidence in the results and would not hesitate to recommend Dr Pentel to anyone.

Dr. Pentel and her staff are all courteous, professional and friendly. So far I have seen Dr. Pentel, her PA and other assistants. All were very cued into my personal needs, and spent plenty of time to make sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. I have confidence in Dr. Pentel and her staff to keep me well informed and help me make the best decisions for my medical and cosmetic dermatology needs.

Dr. Pentel herself is a nice person and looks like a good doctor, her nurses are good too. But her office is terrible. Dont settle your bill until everything clears up in a few months. Office billing tend to overcharge and never refund you your money. Its almost impossible to get your money back. They dont return phone calls and when they owe you money there is nobody in charge to talk to.

What I particularly like about Dr. Pentel is how careful she is to leave as little scarring as possible. I have had identical cancers removed from my shins. One was done by a different doctor. You can really see which was done by Dr. Pentel as the scarring is so minimal compared to the other one. I appreciate the professionalism and friendliness of Dr. Pentel and her staff.

This place is terrible. Ive been coming here for a few years ( only visit once a year) and everytime I come it takes ATLEAST an hour to get into a room and another hour to see someone. It is ridiculous. They have no respect for your time they just assume you have nothing better to do then sit around and wait. Of I could rate them in negative stars I would.

I have been a patient for a few years and could never see the actual doctor, only PAs. They cut my skin for no reason and are totally rude. The office manager is obnoxious. I just came back from a different doctors office and was told I have skin cancer on the mole the PA said was fine. So glad I left that office.
