We just moved to Sarasota FL and I mistakenly went with proximity for choosing a vet (first visit) - Parkway Animal Hospital. Im feeling really completely ripped off after getting hit with a $400 bill. Our dog had some tiny sores on her snout off and on over the last few weeks that werent getting better. I was concerned it might be ticks or something because I have never seen a tick in my life - though Im scared of them - and FL is riddled with bugs everywhere. The end diagnosis was very minor though - "allergy" to something (weeds etc) and that she was doing it to herself by rubbing. Heres what we got hit with - (rounded off) Office call - $50 Antibiotic Injection - $36 Inflammatory Injection - $38 Pentoxifyline - $25 Predisone - $22 Simplicef - $66 Antimax - $26 Biohazard - $4 Trifexis (optional) - $125 Nail Trim (optional) - $12 Seriously? This seems like using a nuclear weapon to kill a mosquito to me! Now I KNEW they would be a rip off on the Trifexis - which is why I specifically asked for a prescription for it - so I could buy it online much less. But they bullied me into buying it from them. Im sure all the other meds were equally as overinflated to rip off customers. Ive had great vets before who would sometimes even write prescriptions (for some interchangeable meds) that could be filled at a regular pharmacy with generics, at very low cost. Not to mention what seems like way overmedicating (6 different ways) for such a minor thing. Price gouging is not a great way to introduce your services to a new customer IMHO. Very unhappy with this place - we wont be going back.

Here is our story, Since Varro(178 pound presa canario) was 8 weeks old we have been part of the parkway animal hospital Family. Everything has always been wonderful from the girls at the reception desk to the vet techs themselves and of course Dr. Corona. About one year ago Varro became ill, so we immediately took varro and went to see Dr. Corona. Dr. Corona professionally perform test which determined we should take an x-ray. Once the x-ray was performed it showed something that we were not sure of, one of the test had said pancreatitis but Dr. Corona was not sure what this mass was. So like a professional he is he confided in another vet to form a second opinion. I think that right there shows a lot, that he was willing to get a second opinion. From there he suggested that we do exploratory surgery because him and the fellow dr. felt that he had intestinal blockage . This was very scary for me and my family but once again Dr. Corona the girls really came through and made us feel very comfortable. With Carl being such a big dog it was a really big surgery and I must say everything couldve went better, within one day Varro was back on his feet and has had zero complications and is been better than ever.I want to personally thank Dr. Corona and his staff for making her feel part of the family and taking extra special care of And I want to personally thank Dr. Corona and his staff for making us feel part of the family and taking extra special care of Varro.

DO NOT GO HERE! Bait & Switch is their game. They gave one price on the phone then padded the bill when I got there. First the vet did a "test" that I did not know was not included in the price of the office visit. All he did was put some drops in the eye to make sure it wasnt scratched. That to me should be included in office visit otherwise what does office visit even mean? Then they gave me 4 medications that my cat "needed". When I questioned the bill decided I didnt really need 2 of the meds. Very sad that they would try to take advantage of someone with a sick cat. My $49 vet office visit turned into $189! After they took off the meds I didnt need it was still $159. I told them I would give them $75 and they would have to bill me for the rest. I will never be back. The vet was so busy trying to sell me flea medicine that he lied to me about Frontline. He acted as if the formula had changed since it was now available in Wal-Mart, etc. I questioned him about it because I happened to know that the formula didnt change, the patten for the effective ingredient is now public. My advice is to find someone else to take your beloved pets to.

Our Chihuahua has been a patient there for the past 5 years or so, and the entire staff are very friendly and helpful. Last week he suffered what we thought was a scratch on his eye (at first it only appeared that he was suffering from a cold, so we couldnt tell). Monday it was much worse and they fit us in immediately. Dr Corona was on a working vacation, but Dr. Sandhu attended to him. He attempted to dilate the eye to see the extent, but quickly realized that it was a puncture wound and not in his area of expertise. The information was relayed to Dr Corona, who was arriving home that evening. He scheduled us for first thing in the morning, cutting his vacation short a day. Once he went into surgery, he called us to inform that the eye could not be saved due to the extent of the damage. He explained things in easy to understand terms, and let us know what our options were. Our Chi is home and getting adjusted to his new circumstances. I have recommended several people here, and they have all had excellent experiences. Many thanks to Dr Corona, Dr Sandhu, and the staff at PAH for their kind and caring spirit.

Our golden retriever has severe allergies and every time we take him to Parkway Animal Hospital, they act like they have never seen his file and try to prescribe diet change, expensive medication and allergy testing...all things we have done repeatedly over the last 4 years. Recently, they gave me the WRONG MEDICATION. I noticed the pills were different and questioned them about it. They changed it to the proper script without any apology. Our decision to leave PAH came after our dog injured his nail-bed while playing. The "doctor" tried to force my wife to do emergency surgery (over $600) instead of treating the secondary infection with antibiotics and waiting to see what the results were. HE HAS AN INJURED TOE...NOT A GUNSHOT WOUND!!!! We got a second opinion at another vet and their first suggestion was, of course, antibiotics and rest. PAH is quick to take out the scalpel and cut your animal open without hesitation.

About two weeks ago i went to a hospital that is on the university, by Panera Bread, without having an appointment or NOt knowing if they were going to see my pet Tony because I did not have a lot of money ....I went in..... I met PAH staff , their greeting was really nice .... I have an old dog with many skin problems .... Dr. showed great compassion for my dog and what impressed me most about him is that knowing that there was not a lot of money ,he took his time to explain everything ........ I will definitely recommend PARKWAY ANIMAL HOSPITAL to any person that has a pet and wants to be treated with respect and understanding. One month has gone by and my dog is much, much better , THanks to PAH and his staff....Im a very happy client.
