Ive been going to the doctors here for about 3 years now. Its had its ups and downs, but it seems like every time they improve in one area, they get so much worse in another! When I started going, the wait times to see my doctor were outrageous! I was even forgotten about in an examination room at the end of the day. Thankfully, someone bothered to look inside and noticed I was there and went to get the doctor. The wait times and attentiveness improved, but then, suddenly, I couldnt see my primary care physician! She would be on vacation or off 90% of the time I would try to get an appointment! (Im a teacher, so getting an appointment is limited to after 3 on weekdays or weekends, and apparently, she didnt take weekend shifts). When I attempted to remedy this issue by calling well in advance for an appointment, I was told "The calendar isnt open yet, you cant schedule that far ahead." And this was to schedule an appointment only THREE WEEKS in advance! Not sure how a DOCTOR cant schedule appointments any earlier than a week beforehand. Thankfully, they have taken on many other doctors now and I can usually snag an appointment with one of them when I am available. Unfortunately, when I attempted to call today to ask for a refill on my prescription (a medication I CANNOT just call into the pharmacy or get an extended supply of), I received a message on the phone that the office was CLOSED! IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! When I was FINALLY able to call the on-call physicians, I was told that they front desk employees were probably out at lunch and would be back soon. I understand everyone needs their break during the day. But you would think you would have at least ONE PERSON on the phones during the lunch break! 12-1 is a long time to not take calls, especially when most of their patients probably have their own lunch break at that hour! So now, I will be without my medication for probably the tenth time in the past two years because the doctors and physicians at this location have been "unavailable" or not responded in a timely manner. I am sure this place is great for parents who dont work or individuals with more flexible schedules, but I really dont recommend it for people like teachers who have strict and tight schedules. They wont accommodate your time, but instead expect you to work around theirs. If you live in Summer Creek, it is a convenient location (that was the reason I initially started going there as it is close to my apartment and my pharmacy). If you are flexible with your time, the doctors and nurses are very polite and helpful. But getting into contact with these people is overly complicated and difficult.

EVER HEARD OF PRIVACY? A mother who showed up at a Texas healthcare clinic for her annual gynecological exam is facing deportation after clinic staffers called authorities and stalled her for them until they arrived. The Houston Press is reporting that Blanca Borrego and her two daughters were delayed at the Northeast Women’s Healthcare clinic in Atascocita for several hours, before healthcare workers showed the woman to an examination room where authorities entered minutes later and arrested her. According to Borrego’s oldest daughter, she watched Harris County Sheriff’s deputies march her mother out of the clinic in handcuffs. “We’re going to take her downtown, she presented a form of false identification,” she recalled the deputy saying, before adding, “She’s going to get deported.” According to Borrego’s attorney, Clarissa Guajardo, Borrego was a first-time visitor to the clinic to see her doctor with whom she had a previous relationship. After giving clinic workers a fake drivers license she was told to wait as, unbeknownst to her, authorities were called. Guajardo’s attorney believes that clinic workers may have violated medical privacy laws. “They took her into that examination room solely for the purpose of being arrested,” Guajardo said in an interview. “I just have a very hard time with that. I think it’s a violation of HIPAA laws.” While exemptions to HIPAA laws exist they are generally used when a patient threatens to physical harm to himself or others. According to her family, Borrego is being held in Harris County jail on a $35,000 bond and they are worried that she may be deported if convicted on felony charges of tampering with a government record because she also had a fake Social Security card in her purse. When pressed by the Houston Press if it is the clinic’s policy to contact authorities if staffers suspect patients of being undocumented immigrants, Memorial Hermann — the parent company of Northwest Women’s Healthcare — spokeswoman Alex Loessin answered, “As you know, because of patient privacy, I am unable to provide comment.”

Please note: The 4 stars are only for Dr. Bogwu and his staff. Not for the phlebotomists. Reasons are below. Dr. Bogwu has always been very thorough in his care, and exhibits cooperation with his patient for thier care. I have always respected that he works with me to find the right medical treatment that I am comfortable with. His staff has always been kind, respectful, and helpful. Though, becareful when you enter the care of those that take your blood for testing. Once I had to correct a patient name on a vile, thankfully it was before the staffer drew my blood under this other persons name. The name was clearly for someone of the opposite sex. The staffer drawing blood seemed irritated that the patient, myself, caught the mistake. Which has made me very cautious from that point on, whenever I am sent for blood tests. The names are supposed to be carefully checked and signed off by the staffer, placed on the viles prior to the patient coming in. One patient at a time. Yes this can be time consuming, maybe even tedious, but these protocols are in place for very important reasons. Then, once the test is about to begin the patient, thankfully, recheck and verifies in writing that the dates and name on the vile are indeed thier own. Human error is always possible, I know. But as a healthcare worker, if you slow down a bit and be cautious and careful, not lining up viles ahead of time to "save time" will be significantly less, and may safe lives & not cause undo harm to patient doing a routine check-up. The other persons & my blood tests could have shown very different results. Causing our care to be drastically different. Possibly causing treatments that could cause irreversible damage. So, it does really bother me to this day, that the staffer drawing blood appeared so annoyed with me.

The people are generally nice. The nurse was nice, the person taking the vital signs aiding the nurse was nice, the lab work person was nice, all the people helping others were friendly, except for one clerk at the front desk of the doctors office who was probably too tired to smile to anyone and needed more training in handling transactions. I was overcharged by more than $80 for a normal scheduled visit out of my deductible amount. But what was not properly assessed was that I also have a $20 co-pay with my insurance. So I tried to get a bit more explanation (I am not a frequent visitor at doctors office), and I was told by the clerk that my deductible is $150. So I check with my admin manager at work, and she had to call this clerk to explain it to her, so that she would call the insurance company to verify my benefits. She was reluctant to do so because she claimed that she had pulled out all the information on her computer and co-pay was not mentioned. Finally she was convinced to call my insurance company and got everything resolved(the $150 deductible is for surgeries etc). She still blamed that the co-pay was not mentioned on the card nor on her computer, pretty much saying that it wasnt her fault, and she had to learn how to void my credit card transaction. All those time she was handling the case with me as a customer and patient, she did not smile, and nobody in the office apologized. Its my first visit there, but I will give them another chance simply because its close to my house.
