My brother had oral cancer & recently had a very radical surgery in Shreveport where they removed all of his tongue, broke his jaw & removed that bone in addition to removing the tumor down his throat & all of the lymph nodes in his neck. The cancer was wrapped around his carteroid artery & had to be scraped off, leaving the artery exposed & causing them to have to take skin from his chest panel to try to protect it. They were forced to make veins to go in his neck & skin was taken from his thigh to make a flapper to replace his tongue & bone from his leg was used to replace his jawbone. He is only 45 years old. He was transferred from Shreveport to Select Specialty in Longview 1 week after surgery. He had a trach coming out of a hole in his throat & a feeding tube inserted in his stomach. I am telling u all of this to help u understand exactly how sick he was. After sum initial problems with the nursing staff (when my brother pushed the Call button for help, they would call his room to ask how they could help him but he couldnt talk to answer them!) he actually had some very good nurses taking care of him, but even so, he came down with pneumonia & some of his wounds became infected. He was still dealing with both of these issues app 2 1/2 weeks later when Lisa Bourdin, the Case Manager, came & told him that he was being sent home in a couple of days. When we were informed of this, we were convinced there must be a mistake so I attempted to contact her & was forced to leave her a message. After receiving my msg, she went to my brothers room & proceeded to tell him that they werent running a day care & he would have to leave like she had previously told him, after which she left & returned my call. She was very unsympathetic to our concerns about him being released so soon. I was told that my brother was "watching tv all day & he could do that at home!" And that he couldnt "live in the hospital". She made it perfectly clear that she thought we were attempting to have their facility provide care for our brother that he really didnt need!! After speaking with the Doctor, I was told he would not be going home but instead she would get busy making arrangements for him to be transferred upstairs to Rehab. That was on a Tuesday evening around 9 pm, & I have no idea what happened to change things but the case manager came back in to see my brother on Wednesday afternoon & told him he would be being sent home 1st thing the next morning & since I wasnt able to speak with the dr (none of my calls were returned) he was sent home with pneumonia & infection in several locations on his body, which has resulted in ongoing problems. This is not a facility we would ever entrust with another member of our family.

This place should be shut down. No good care here. A few good people. Real crappy place. They dont care. Poor treatment all about saving a buck. No quality patient care. Dont let your loved ones get put in here.

They literally brought me back into life. Very skillful care, very personable folks, becoming like family. They are willing to work with each patient for his/her personal needs. Highly recommended.
