I am a caregiver myself and I have known about kindred hospitals by having a patients husband admitted at kindred Hospital Clearlake. At that facility the patients husband was given great care, and the staff answered any questions that they had. Now that I am a patient and was told I needed long-term care I knew kindred Hospital bay area would be a good fit for me - since this location is close to my home. I was initially admitted for wound care treatments for a wound on my head that was a result from a fall I had. However, once I was admitted I found out there were a few other problems going on with my health, such as an infection that required me to have IV antibiotics and care for a UTI. All staff at kindred Hospital bay area have been wonderful, and accommodating to any and all questions that I have had. One time my daughter had a question regarding some blood work results, and the staff member helping was kind enough to print her out the results so she could have a copy to reference. Upon my admission, I had to be admitted into the intensive care unit, which I was also in at my transferring facility and was kind of nervous about being transferred to kindred but when I actually got here I ended up liking their ICU much more than the one I had been transferred from. My favorite nurses in the hospital were in ICU named Misty and Shaq!! They are absolutely amazing! Now that Ive been on the regular floor - the nursing staff has still be great, especially Chichi, John (I wish I could take him home), and Cynthia (night shift) - she Took a little bit of extra time to speak with me about religion, which really touched my heart because I have been missing my own church and was able to have the special interaction I have wanted. Carrie, CNA, has gone above and beyond for me - she realized I loved tea and has made sure I receive a 20 oz iced tea at each meal! Speaking a meals, the food at kindred Bay Area has been excellent! The dietary staff has been great with accommodating special requests if I didnt care for the menu options. The food Ive received has been flavorful and not once have I had to send anything back! Next, Id like to mention the physical therapy team - each and every team member in the gym has been wonderful! They work hard and make sure I work hard as well, I asked them to make sure I give my all during therapy sessions and they have done so but never once did they push me past my limits. This has definitely been an great experience considering how much progress Ive had to make, I couldnt have done it without the staff!! Thank you all so very much!

Upon admission I had a little information on what to expect, but when I actually got into my room and was settled in it was way more than I expected and even better compared to three other facilities that I have been in. All of the nursing staff members have been kind, courteous, and have shown love and compassion and interest in my well being and recovery as far as my medications, dialysis, physical and occupational therapy, wound care, and nutritional needs. Everything has been more than phenomenal!! All of my doctors, surgeons and wound care specialist have been amazing as well, they keep me thoroughly updated on my progress and treatment plans - which shows me that they really care about my recovery and returning back to a normal and healthy living... Wound care needs and dialysis treatments were my main reason for admission and both departments were great. All departments made sure I was comfortable with the treatments and had a good understanding of them. I wish I could remember each staff member by name so that i could thank each and everyone of them for their kindness and love shown towards me these last few weeks that Ive been a patient. I really do not want to leave, but unfortunately all good things must come to an end. Von, my case manager, has been working extremely hard to find the perfect transitional facility for me and my healthcare needs!! At this facility my doctors came to visit me every single day and never once did they make me feel like I was an inconvenience when I had a lot of questions - especially Dr. James. Probably the only bad thing about this hospital is the food - the limited selection was not very appetizing. I had to settle for the basics such as toast and chicken noodle soup oftentimes because some of the food tasted pre-packaged. Other places serve fresh eggs, but the nutritionist told me they do not here. That should definitely be something that gets changed here. I would love to have had a nice sunny side up egg while I was here. The therapy teams were also great, they kept me comfortable and motivated me to want to be in therapy everyday, even when I was tired from dialysis and not once did they try to push me past my limits. Overall kindred bay area treated me well and if I had to return I would do so because the staff truly showed me that I was important and cared for. Thank You

Prior to my mother being transferred to Kindred Hospital she went to St Lukes Urgent Care in Pasadena, to be treated for double pneumonia and the incompetant Medical Staff shoved / forced a tube down her throat to intubate her which caused damaged and seveerd her Vocal Cords while she was having a panic attack, then transferred her to Kindred Hospital. My mothers experience was HORRIBLE and a living NIGHTMARE. The medical staff at Kindred were very rude, impatient, and had zero compassion for my mother; her hygiene was poor due to NEGLECT and they cut her long blond hair up to her neck because the nurse said that it was matted and could not comb or brush It out. While bed ridden and unable to communicate verbally; only by writing/ or by reading her lips, in which, the nurse completely ignored her because they did not have the patience to see / figure out what it was she was trying to ask them. She was also left in her feces for 3 hours until they came and changed her. Moreover, she contracted C-Diff and the Nurse inserted a glass flask in her rectum (which was very painful ) so that, she would not have to deal with the clean up. The nurses at the Nurses Station always made me feel uncomfortable asking them anything they seen me standing in front of the desk; one of them was on their cell and 3 women were having a conversation (not pertaing to work ) and the nurse had an attitude as if i was disrupting /disturbing their conversation. My Mother, had an Auto Immune deficiency and was administered a flu shot, and other medications that she was allergic to; she wrote on her tablet for us not to ask her nurse any questions about her medications or ask what medications they were giving her because she said that the nurses were mean to her and was afraid of being left alone with them. When she passed away Joey Malone, demanded that we have the body removed ASAP or she would call County to have it removed. So , all in all my mothers 5 months of hell were none stop until her untimely death at kindred, September 19, 2013.
