My experience today was absolutely horrible. Even though it is in my insurance network, I will not be returning here. I have an abscess that is causing severe pain that had me in at the ER in the morning because there is no 24-hour number to reach someone, only the off-site receptionist service. The ER prescribed antibiotics and gave me an injection of lidocaine and bupivacaine to ease the pain and a shot of toradol to help with the inflammation. I scheduled an appointment for 11:30, the earliest available. I was called in to be seen at 11:41 and the dentist looked at my mouth for less than a minute and sent me on my way saying that I needed and endodontist. Well ok, but it is Friday and good luck scheduling that! They wouldnt even give a referral form for an endodontist when I asked for one either, I had to gripe and tell them that my insurance wouldnt let me see a specialist without a referral! I asked for pain meds and he said to call back if I needed some - I was already in pain since the injection the ER gave me at 4 in the morning had long since worn off, so of course I needed some! I made the assistant go find the dentist. He had gone to lunch. I left and told them to please call in a prescription to Walgreens pharmacy when he got back. I walked out the door at 11:47. I didnt even get 10 minutes, and the only reason I got more than 5 minutes was because I made them give me the referral form and asked for a prescription. Well, it came to be nearly 5:00 (an hour before they close) and I had been sitting at home since noon in terrible pain with no word from the office or Walgreens about a prescription, so I called back and they told me I had to come into the office again so I scheduled another appointment with their corporate receptionist (there is no direct number for this location, evidently) for 5:30. I get there 5 minutes before and wait for 15 minutes past my appointment time and the dentist wouldnt even see me. It took me speaking with the receptionist to get her to go back and have the dentist give me anything at all, and from what it sounds like, he argued with her over it too. Utterly ridiculous. As a side note, I called the some endodontists I found in the area on my own and they are setting initial appointments 2 weeks out. There is no way the 12 pills I had to argue with the dentist with twice to get are going to last that long. I would wager that they have let staff go and overbook their dentists, expecting them to juggle two or three patients at a time and get them out the door as quickly as possible. They are loathe to do anything more than the absolute minimum, often booking "15 minute check-up" only appointments for people in pain or with issues that need an immediate fix. Supposedly, this used to be a nice place too, given the reviews from years past. Today though, the waiting room looks like it hasnt been cleaned in weeks, and the kids playroom was filthy. I suspect, but cant prove that the abscess was caused by work that Familia Dental did on the tooth right next to it. This crown was placed over a year ago and had no issues whatsoever until after a filling in the next tooth over. Youd think that they wouldve seen the abscess if it was there before the fillings when they took the complete x-rays. I cannot even fathom letting a patient walk out the door in pain (twice!), without at least a simple lidocaine injection to hold them over until they can get something more long-term. I honestly got better care from the ER doctor than I did from the dentist. Im quite sure I would be sitting here in excruciating pain if I hadnt made a scene. You couldnt pay me to visit one of your clinics. I would rather pay 100% out of pocket for a non-network dentist than endure anything similar to what I endured today.

Beware: Their $45 cleaning - exam, x-ray polish, is not a normal cleaning!!! So I received a flyer in the mail for $64 cleaning, exam, x ray. Which is slightly more than the flyers I typically get in the mail for other places but I made an appointment since the place was closer to my work. Beware when you call in, the corporate office books the appointment. I found this out when they asked me at check in what my appointment was for. I told them that I wanted a normal cleaning, exam & xray that I normally get at the dentist office. They said we can do one side for $19 or both with a polish for $45. I was a bit confused as this seemed cheaper than what most places and what they advertised so. I restated that I wanted a cleaning, exam & xray that I normally get at the dentist she said ok that would be $45. I then had to fill out paperwork and pay up front. The dental assistant took my Xrays and then had me wait for my Dr. He came looked over my teeth told me that I had a lot of cavities 9 to be exact, which i guess could be saying its been a couple years since my last cleaning however Ive never had any cavities (that my dentist thought was necessary to fill) before, and I also have absolutely no pain or discomfort. The Dr then told me he would do the polishing, I asked arent you going to do the cleaning first? He said the polishing does clean a bit, but if you want a deep cleaning then it will be 109 of 119 I dont remember the exact number as I was not happy at this point. The gave me an estimate for work of $2400 for fillings. Im going to seek my old dentist Dr. Lee for a second opinion and will update what he says I need to have done. Overall I feel like this was a bad experience and would not recommend anyone going here but they did so a thorough exam so I will give them 2 stars. Not the best place to go for your family. Girlfriend and I called ahead of time to make an appointment with them. She then asked if both of our insurances were taken and if they were "In-network." They assured us that they were in fact in network for both insurance companies. So our appointment was set for June 2016. So we finally reach our appointment date. My girlfriend, kids and I were separated between 2 dentists. I thought oh okay thats kind of nice, speed things up a bit so were not stuck there all day. They performed a routine x-ray, check up and cleaning on me, my kids and my girlfriend. Everything felt a little rushed. Mind you my girlfriend at the time was a couple months pregnant, she even handed them the doctors note in which they did not review prior to giving her an x-ray. They only stopped with her x-rays after she spoke up. She assumed that they had checked the doctors note before doing any dental work on her. So fast forward about a month later, our bills finally came. My youngest and I were charged out of network. My two other kids were charged under in network and get this, they charged my girlfriend for the x-ray that they botched. I paid partial of the bill that was due, because I dont want to be late on my payments. So my girlfriend took to the phone and called them Several times a week, to try and even get to somebody who know anything at their billing dept. After about another week of frustration, they told her they would call her back once they have any new information on her account situation. They finally resolved her billing in a matter of another 2 weeks, free of charge, as it should have been. My bill was only "fixed" last week. Its been nearly over 3 months of trying to explain to them that who in their right mind would have half of their family In-Network and half Out of netowrk? I visited the dentist office twice, made several frustrating calls(which no one knew what to do) within those 3 months. I nearly gave up. There was this one worker there at the Champaign location that did help me and followed up with me, other than that person, I felt that corporate didnt know what they were doing. They gave us the run around by transferring us over and over to other workers who didnt know what they were doing. Overall, I cannot recommend Familia Dental. God forbid that they mess up on your billing, youll be looking at waiting months til it is resolved.
