Our family has been taking our Irish Wolfhound to Wheeling Animal Hospital to get groomed for a few years now. When we first started going, there was a male groomer who did an outstanding job. He was always pleasant, patient, never complained and knew how to give our dog a summer cut so she would be cooler in the summer months. Recently they changed groomers to Jo Marie, and boy does she have an attitude that comes through in the way she speaks. For a while it was going ok, but unlike the previous groomer, Jo Marie complains A LOT. Not only does she complain, she complains directly to the client (us). "You dont brush properly", "The lumps on your dog make it so difficult to groom her", "You have to use a comb!". Just to let you know, our dog has a skin condition where she has sores and lumps. Were treating her, but there isnt much we can do to get rid of them as its a rare condition based on the several vets and specialists weve taken her to. We do brush her and comb her on a daily basis, but we cant always get the knots out, hence why we send her to the groomers. Recently, we dropped our dog off and we received a call letting us know that it would be shorter than normal. We thought ok, shouldnt be that bad, maybe theyll take 1.5" off versus the 1" that we requested. She came back SHAVED, the hair was only 1" long all around her body, if that. Now a professional groomer should know that you NEVER cut an Irish Wolfhounds hair down to the undercoat. The hair is literally shorter than when she was a puppy, and there is NO top coat. I called to complain and the receptionist was very nice (Sue), but it took 2 days for the manager to call me back. In between the time I called to complain and the day the manager called me back, the groomer called the house and spoke to my mum and said "I told you it was going to be short!", in a very curt voice. I tried to setup a conference call between the manager, the groomer and myself, but they seem to be avoiding my calls. If youre ok with having a groomer with an attitude, not knowing what shes doing, then yes, you should go to Wheeling Animal Hospital. If you want a groomer that is patient, knowledgable, understanding, has great customer service, go somewhere else.

Two stars only because the staff has been friendly enough. However, they perform services/procedures on your pet without telling you the price or consulting you about it until you see the bill. Then, theres nothing you can do because the service has already been performed. Additionally, when getting my dogs teeth cleaned here, they said she had a small growth/tumor on her gum and theyd remove it but would not tell me the price because they didnt know how long it would take (anesthesia, etc.). I can understand this; however, in the end the final cleaning cost was more than twice what was estimated over the phone when we originally decided on WAH. Finally, they do not call with "negative" results when you bring your pet in for a routine check up. If you want to know the results, have to call on your own... Even my mechanic calls to tell me theres nothing wrong with my car. Its a nice, clean place but thats not enough to continue being a customer and I would not recommend going here if you have another option.

I have never been so upset with an animal care facility as I was with Wheeling Animal Hospital last month. My little dog, my wonderful "baby" went to the facility for "1 or 2" teeth extractions. I was told on the receipt that they would call me if there were any changes in his treatment. My office new about this and made sure that all phone calls were answered. They called me late in the afternoon to inform me that they extracted 8 teeth. I STARTED CRYING!!!!". They had NO right to extract 8 teeth without my permission. I went there to pick up my dog and was informed that in truth they extracted 13 teeth!!!! No phone call. No contact with me - the owner! How would they feel if they went to a dentist for an extraction of their childs tooth and when the child came out from the office had 8 teeth extracted! I will NEVER go back to that office and hope everyone takes special precautions when they take their pet to Wheeling Animal Hospital. THEY ARE PATHETIC!!!

I would experience the facility for yourself before believing some of these reviews. We recently relocated here and were unsure if we were to put one of our dogs down or not and needed to get both current on medications. All of the doctors and staff were understanding and patient with us even though we were a little on edge. The prices are extremely fair if not the cheapest I have ever seen after living in four states over the last ten years. If you dont have the wherewithal to have them quote you before services are performed then dont have them perform the services until you get your written estimate. You cannot ask them to perform services and then gripe about the bill later. You do have the right to ask for the price before you ok the services. Kudos to this efficient business and their staff. We will continue to employ their services going forward.

My dog was stung by a bee. Called over to ask if I needed to worry about it. I was informed that the vet told the lady I was speaking to on the phone (the lady i was speaking to was perfectly nice) that she could not give any advice since my dog had never been there. Needless to say that regardless of the fact that it is only a mile from my home, I will never take any animal there after that quick interaction. Would I have gone there if there was a need to...yes. After that exchange it is more than clear that animal welfare takes a backseat to cash flow and the vets own personal gain. Congrats...you lost a customer before you had a chance to gain one

I paid for my daughters dog to be boarded, along with my dog, and they gave her dog the incorrect amount of medication. We paid an additional 5.00 per day to give the dog a pill, which is outrageous. They administered the wrong amount of meds to her dog. She asked to talk to a supervisor, and they never called her back. She called back a couple of times and then gave up, and decided not to use them any longer. They are very unprofessional and dont seem to care. They were supposed to credit my card for the medication fee, and never did.

Originally found this vet about 13 years ago when we had to put our dog down and they offered at home services. We have been going here ever since. We recently had to put our other dog down and were happy they still offer the at home services. They were very professional, not only that a few days later we received a sympathy card with hand written condolences. It was a very nice touch. I would recommend this Vet to anyone for their pet from puppy to senior. When we do decide to get another pet we will be bringing them here.
