I took my dog to this clinic and was totally unimpressed. My dog is older and was having issues with incontinence. I paid several hundred dollars to have her "diagnosed" and was then told she needed a monthly prescription for which I was charged around $32. I checked prices of the medicine online to find a more reasonable price. On 1-800-Pet Meds, the medicine was half the price. After checking the status of my order, I found that the vets office would not approve the purchase. I called the vets office to see why. I was told that the medicine may not have come from the US and they never approve online orders. I asked why their price was double from what I found online and the lady did not know. I told her that I was not happy about the service I was provided and that after I had taken my dog there, I read quite a few bad reviews of their facility online. I told her that we would not be coming back. A few minutes later, the vet himself, called me back and explained to me that he was suprised the website I tried to order the medicine from could carry it because it is a controlled substance and that he wasnt willing to risk his DEA license. He then went on to say that I called his employee a B*!#H because I was unhappy with her answer. That was a totally absurd claim and I was shocked that she said that because I never had a problem with her personally and would NEVER do that. I told the vet that we would not be coming back and he followed my statement with telling me to never come back because we were not welcome. I felt that he called and attacked me! The unprofessional service this doctor exhibited was shocking to me. I dont understand all of the reasons and requirements for ordering the meds online and wanted an explanation, I believe I was WAY over charged for services and that in trying to find a more cost effective alternative, I had my head taken off. What a shame.

I made an appointment to have my chihuahuas teeth cleaned. The date was set and the price quoted for cleaning was estimated $428.00. I was told over the phone when making the appointment that a rabies shot was required which I expected to pay on top of the estimate for cleaning. I get to the appointment and was told at the desk the cost would be $594.61 because they had to vaccinate my dog with a canine influenza vaccine for $45.50 and other vaccines included in their canine yearly package fee priced at another $149.95 which was not included in their estimate they gave us. The only vaccine required by law is for rabies, yet they force pet owners to pay for worthless vaccines that actually create health problems for your pets. Vaccines for pets is a scam, and Shelbyville Road Veterinary Hospital is taking advantage of it. What really irritates me is they waited until I brought my dog in for his appointment before letting me know of all the vaccines they would have to give him and charge me with for him to be seen there. They probably get away with gouging people at the last minute since they are already there, and probably get away with it some of the time taking care of little old ladys pets, but I refuse to be ripped off. This place is a joke. Find a different vet if you know whats best for you. On top of everything else, their facility is dirty.

I brought my kitten to Shelbyville Road when I came back from college and she needed her first set of shots. Wed been taking our dog to VCA for years, but over the years the techs there had grown more and more intolerant of our skittish shepherd, so I wanted to find somewhere new. I was happy with the kitten package price and the treatment, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. And then my brothers puppy came down with parvo. When I brought that sick puppy to the girls and Dr. Thunell and they told me that she had parvo, I nearly died. My brother had just graduated college and didnt have the money to hospitalize her, especially when the odds werent good. But they gave us another option. Every day I took her in and they gave her fluids and checked her out, advising me on how to nurse her through things at home. They came in on Sunday so she could get more fluids. With their help, that puppy is now a ferocious little ragamuffin whos always getting into trouble because she wants to play with everyone. Yes, it had a cost. But every time I call, their priority is to get my animal well within the means I have. Now all three of our dogs and the cat see them regularly, and everyone knows them by name. They may hate getting shots, but they love getting to see their extended family at Shelbyville Road Veterinary.

I took my German Shepherd here also for the first time because her ear was swollen up like a balloon. I took her here because my vet was closed for surgery so I brought her to this joke of a vet.. They didnt even greet me, were very rude, and rough with my dog. Long story short it ended up being a hematoma that was $1,000. Well I get home and they had given her a cheap E-Collar and forgot her pain meds! Within one day she had broken that E-Collar to shreds. So I went back and was ignored again! Finally got her stuff and left. When I returned to get her stitches removed and her ear checked I was once again ignored while the office manager and doctor discussed bathing suits! Furthermore I was taken to a room to see the doctor waited another 30 minutes only for the VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL NURSE WANNA BE told us she couldnt do anything for us because the first visit charge had not cleared with my AMEX Company?!?!?! I dont care if I didnt have money I wouldnt have an American Express and its my dogs fault that the your accounts manager hadnt cleared that up? Please anyone that cares about their pets well being DO NOT GO HERE! ALL THEY CARE ABOUT MONEY AND NEXT YEARS BATHING SUITS.

I took my dog to this vet due to him having stomach issues. I generally go to a different vet but my significant other went ahead and made an appointment at this location since they could get him in earlier in the day. I have to repeat what others have said here in that the assistants are wonderful but the vet seemed genuinely disinterested and rushed. He seemed more interested in running every test possible to get an answer than trying to pinpoint what it might be in the first place. The price definitely felt steep to come to the conclusion to just give my dog fluids and nausea medication. He kept referring to my dog by the wrong gender as well and as I was getting ready to leave it almost seemed like the vet was getting ready to speak badly about his patients. He was speaking with another staff member in the lobby and mid sentence saw I was in the room, paused, and seemingly changed the second part of what he was saying. Its really a shame because everyone except the vet was great but when its him Im going to see- I unfortunately cant recommend this place to anyone. Ill definitely be taking my dog to the same vet as my cats from now on.
